A lone doe stands half-submerged in knee-deep water, surrounded by three full sized crocodiles. Two of them lie dead nearby, half floating in the shallow water. In the dim light, the glowing markings on her earth-brown coat gleam likes fiery lava, and her eyes are narrowed in anger, her teeth bared in a snarl as she lashes out with a sharp hoof, dancing around her opponents. There is much splashing and snarling (from the doe) as she shouts at them to leave her be. They are too dumb to understand her speech-- they only know the language of hunger.

"Get back!" she shouts at them, fury in her voice, her eyes flat against her head. She doesn't think to scream for help-- it goes against her nature, against her pride. In fact, she never even looks up searchingly in the hopes to spot another-- thus she does not see the bright golden-yellow buck nearby.

[02:36] Andraia: Kindness rarely came this far out (in this direction) in his territory. It wasn't for any particular reason except that it wasn't very convenient and was a little too prone to alligator infestations to be worth the trouble. It just so happened that this afternoon he had convinced himself that if he didn't get up to the task soon some uppity buck was likely to try and snatch it away. That was how he happened upon the sight of a young doe having a go with a pack of nasty looking gators. 'Well...' He thought sarcastically, watching as she kicked and hissed at the awful creatures, 'she certainly looks like she is having a good time.'

She really did look like she was holding her own pretty well. No need for him to intervene at all.. nope.. he could just walk away.. except that he was pretty sure she hadn't seen that third (or sixth, he supposed, if one included the two she had already done away with) creature who had just appeared on the scene, outside her range of vision, and was making a speedy approach at her from behind.

With as much speed as the terrain could allow Kindness jumped from the ledge he had been standing on and came down the steep bank. When he got close enough he jumped at the new alligator before it could make dinner out of the lovely... He looked over his shoulder... yes, simply glowing, doe.

[03:06] Daijona: She's been at it for at least an hour, maybe two. Her coat is entirely soaked with a mixture of sweat and bog-water. Flecks of slimy, green algae cling to her brown coat, making her look like some kind of swamp-monster from legend. Though even with all of that she DOES make a rather striking appearance, what with her odd glowing markings. Never mind the way she snarls like some kind of angry lynx in the face of her foes, all of which are at least double her own size-- but her hoofs are hard, and sharper still.

Breakaway stuns another alligator just as she hears Kindness sliding down the steep bank behind her. At first she thinks it's the end for her-- that one of the large reptiles had finally gotten the best of her-- but when she swivels around to look she finds, instead, a bright yellow buck. A dead gator lies at his feet, and her heart pounds a little harder as she realizes that her first thought wasn't entirely incorrect.

There's no time yet to snarl at him for helping her though. Two more gators have to be dealt with, and while Kindness helps her with one of them, she bashes a hoof into the last one's skull. Stunned, and scared now that it doesn't have it's kin to support it, the creature slips away from them, and Breakaway stands there, panting, not yet turning her back on the murky water. Finally, she bites out, her husky voice labored from exertion,

“I didn't need your help.”

[06:56] Andraia: Kindness kicked and fought alongside the doe until the last gator had fled. He turned to her, a triumphant smile on his face, only to be met with a snarl. "Oh, if your plan was to be dinner for those alligators, then I'm sorry for the trouble. Next time I'll just let them get you." He said pleasantly, absently pulling his leg out of the murky water and shaking the swamp-gunk off.

[07:12] Daijona: Breakaway snorts softly, flinging some of the muck off of her coat, which splashes against Kindness, and eyes him sideways. “No need to worry-- there won't be a next time,” She steps out of the murky water finally, away from the bank so that any spiteful gators wouldn't surprise attack her. As she moves , she says “Besides, what are you even doing in my territory?” She knows he has likely saved her life, or at least kept her from a serious injury, but it's against her pride to say so. She doesn't need anyone ,after all. No one but the Swamp and herself.

User ImageKindess felt the sick wet slump as the mud from Breakaway’s coat smacked into his side. “Wonderful,” he muttered quietly to himself as he tried to gently shake it off, “such a nice girl.” She was the most interest doe he had met in a while, he could give her that much. He looked back over his shoulder and raised one scaled eyebrow. “Your territory?” He asked with a slight scoff. “This is my land.”

{{ Grrrrrr..... *burns some tasty snacks for Apollo and the Muses* A little help =D ? }}

Snorting softly, Breakaway just glances over at the bright yellow buck, now splattered in mud (some of it from her own coat) and trots a few more steps ahead. Safely away from the water now, the spiky-scaled doe finally takes a moment to look around her, and for the slightest of seconds her fiery stubbornness seems to waver just the slightest bit.

"I... well, it's not my fault those overgrown lizards forced me so far from my territory!" She glares at Kindness, almost as if all of this were his fault, though not really.

"Hmph.... I'll show you nice," she mutters softly, turning to stare up at the steep embankment Kindness had first been at when he spotted her. "I don't suppose you'd be gentleman enough to show me how to get out of this mosquito pit?"

Kindness smiled. “No,” he said, “I suppose not.” He followed her up to the bank and nudged one of the dead gaters with his hoof distastefully as he passed it. “Stupid things.” Though maybe they weren’t too bad, they had made his day a little bit more interesting than he was expecting. He rolled his eyes as she mocked him. “Why of course, fair maiden. What ever service I can be to you.”

The hill was steep, almost sheer, and covered completely in loose, muddy soil. But like all the hills in this area it was riddled with scrawny weeds that had surprisingly sturdy and long roots. If you knew what you were looking for you could use them to find where the safer places to step were. “This way.” He said, and started a careful path upward. There was no point in going farther along the hill, it was the same for quite a while. About half way up he stopped and motioned for her to go ahead of him. “Just straight from here to where that fern is hanging over the ledge. Watch your step.”

Breakaway simply follows, hiding a small smirk at his comment, thinking of a service he could include, though it makes her grin widen a little, even if her back is now to the yellow and creme colored buck. She approaches the somewhat steep hillside and eyes it cryptically before making her way up. Nearly halfway up, a patch of slick, damp leaves on smooth, unyielding stone causes her to lose her footing, and before she can control it, she slips quickly backwards.

A startled gasp escapes her, but a firm, strong body pushes up against her, steadying her as she regains her footing.

The hornless doe snuck past him and Kindess took a moment to admire her strong figure. She was obviously a doe that was used to taking care of herself, and briefly he wondered if she… er… shared her territory with anyone. That is to say, if she had anyone looking out for her.

He was lost in thought for a moment but was quickly pulled back when the doe lost her footing. Kindess lurched forward and slammed his hooves into the ground to get a firm hold before she crashed into him. The only thing that ran through his mind at the time was that she was lighter than he would have expected from someone so strong. “Woah there!” He said, with a slightly nervous laugh and leaned over to try and let her get back on her feet easier. “I said watch your step.”

Breakaway had almost expected a sly comment as the strong buck behind her easily caught her. The feel of him, strong and sturdy, brushed against her side makes her shiver, and she's thankful her coat is dark enough to hide the slight blush to her face, even if her back is still facing him. She clears her throat with a faint nod before making her way up to the top of the hill without further trouble.

Standing away from the edge she waits for him to join her, then tosses her head a bit, a small, amused smirk teasing her mouth.

"And just what should I call my brave savior?" There's sharp sarcasm in her low timbered voice, lower than one might expect of a female but still definitely feminine, but just enough amusement under it to soften any true harshness out of it.

He had to suppress a slight chuckle at her desperate attempts to stay in control. It was easy to loose you footing on these hills, it was nothing to be ashamed of. Goodness knows he had taken a few nasty slips down them himself. When he got to the top he was pleasantly surprised to find her smiling and not, as he had expected, scowling darkly at him. His smirk mirrored hers. “My name is Kindness Can Decieve but,” he said lowering his voice slightly and raising an eyebrow, “you can call me Kindness.” He through back his head slightly let out a quick laugh before and taking a few steps closer to her before sitting down on a slightly softer, less muddy, patch of grass.

“And what do they call you, oh mighty slayer of alligators?”

Breakaway chuckles softly at his obvious flirting, a surprisingly free sound. Contrary to first impression, she's really not so closed off. Well, at least not so long as she finds some liking to the kimeti in her company.

"Hm... I'm Breakaway.. but you can call me Foxbun." Her voice is laced with sharp sarcasm, but there's a teasing half-smile on her mouth, and a twinkle of it in her eyes. Obviously she means it as a joke-- this doe is the furthest thing from one of the simple, timid pets.

The sarcasm was not lost on Kindness… he just chose to ignore it. “Well, Foxbun,” he said, a playful smirk on his lips, “I’m very glad to have met you.”

She narrows her eyes at him a bit at the use of the nickname before her smirk widens a bit. "Indeed. Beware though... this Foxbun hides a viper's bite. Would you be bitten?"
PostPosted: Sun May 23, 2010 12:04 am

His smirk, if possible, got even wider. "Gladly." He said.

Breakaway is still smirking, almost grinning really, but there's a slightly feral sharpness to it's playfulness. After a moment, she simply laughs, tossing her head a bit and steps closer and nips him, sharply, on the side of his neck before saying, "Then come and get me.." just as she chuckles again and bounds back playfully, tail waving, ready to flee at his slightest movement. To run free and wild through the bush and trees with him at her tail until he catches her.
