Easiest way to explain is with examples! -Points to the Sky-
Most people probably went longsword one time in their hunting career, when it made an appearance in MHF2. So you used it for a good while, and then perhaps realised HEY some other weapons are probably more powerful, and you were right. Hammer, the highest raw damage output was a for sure, dead on correction, along with Greatsword's charged hits and then Lances turtling and piercing damage that negated monsters defenses.
But recently I tried Longsword on Tri, thinking and trying the new actions where pretty nifty, going against a Barroth in the Arena. Now longsword is pretty nooby IMO, you've got a huge hitbox, elemental and raw are pretty high, and spirit blade can ignore bounces. Plus I used it till HR4ish and all through the elders (not Nehokt's or w/e's quests) quests, so I should be pretty B.A with it.
Wrong, since going to Greatsword and Hammer, I've lost my knack for Longsword wielding, which is a both. Now you can slash left or right and move a pretty great distance to add.
So guildies here's my question to you, how many of you tried using your old beginner weapon and failed, because the newer weapon you've changed to has been preset into your mind.
Or maybe I just suck with Longsword who knows? I mean I do have half the collection of them in MHFU.. so..

Eh I used to use LS primarily because in my group of friends we had like 6 people who played so someone was always there with the necessities so I just got to toss salads I mean damage.
But I went back to GS in Tri and I'm doing just fine with it havent even picked up an LS yet. Trying to get the Bolt Axe though.

I actually never had this weapon because I used the Hammer, SnS, and LS as my usual weapons so I never went back from a new weapon to an old weapon and couldn't fight with it. But I can see where you are coming from and just practice alittle and get back in the groove.

My original weapon was the HH, I was a total master of Hunting Horns, I fought every single monster with it and learned every single song and combo, when MHFU came out I decided to change to something faster so I started to check the other weapons, I decided with the lance and the bow (which could be one of the best weapons yet). In MH3, they removed the bow, which pissed me off, so now I only use the lance.

I was about the same switching from MHFU to MH3. i used GS and HBG. GS is better in tri because of that extra possible full charge. However, i didnt like the BG combination system. there's no way to get a decent HBG D: so i was stuck using MBG while i played tri -.-

i was strictly gunlance in MHFU, then i switched to LS and hammers, recently some hunting horns. i went back to gunlance recently, and i think i've actually gotten better since dropping it. in Tri, i use light bowguns and the lance, mainly lance. They made lances completely rapeshit in that one, especially with the agnaktor set. i haven't died more than four times over my climb to HR 55.

I started as a lancer. But that was when I was still experimenting. I preferred lances until I saw some results from my friends file when he used a great sword. Now I almost always use greatswords. Anything else I use is a heavy weapon or medium like hammers, lances, and heavy/med bowguns, but are mostly for practice or arena.

Dark_Sasuke00 i used to wield LS. but im one of those people who enjoy hating things that get popular. so i changed to Hammer and DS Wait... you hate things that everyone likes... so you went with Hammer and DS? AAANNNYYWWAAAYYY Up until Tri, i was all about HBG. In Tri, i switched to medium. And now i get raep'd every time i try and use a HBG. It saddens me. Also, here's a flow chart telling you how to use Greatsword. Of course, it was mostly for comedy, but it actually helped me out a little.

Yeeeah...I've been a huge fan of the SnS since I first played.
And I haven't given it up yet. It's way too useful, and I've grown used to it's presence. I know it's a total newb weapon, but I like the way it does it's thing biggrin
