What an annoying turn of events!
Losing duels. What was this? How could he, formerly one of the most feared rogue lions for years on end, lost fights? And to such... undeserving victors? It was a little like he had let them win to make them feel better about themselves, only without that whole 'permission' part that made it okay. They had beaten him in a fair fight. Hell, one had beaten him in a completely not-fair fight that he had thought he would win paws down.
Something was wrong with the world, that had to be the only explanation for it. He wasn't so old that he could no longer fight! God no. In fact, he was still pretty damn young, in his mind.
It had to be something else.
Sulking, he glared at his reflection in a small watering hole, watching the aged, angry animal glare back at him. This was not his image, it couldn't be.
He would prove that there was still some fight left in him.

Dinah was having a good day, as was quite typical for her. The lucky lioness rarely ran into trouble and always found a way to keep herself fed despite her life as a lone, wandering rogue. When she spotted Angusho from a distance, able to tell immediately that he wasn't feeling so happy, she decided to go ahead and spread the cheer a bit. It'd be a waste of a good mood not to share it, and she was sure she could do so without trouble. So she walked up, not hiding her presence and was well outside his personal space when she spoke.
"Good afternoon, handsome," she greeted him cheerily, pleased to get a closer look and deciding that if he wasn't scowling he would be attractive so there was no lie when she spoke-- not that it would have stopped her, "Why so gloomy?"
She stopped at a fair conversational distance until she knew how he would respond, a friendly smile never leaving her face.

Handsome? It had been a long time since he’d heard someone foolish enough to call him that. Turning his head, the large male let his sharp green eyes rest on the female who had so foolishly approached him, his expression void of anything other than indifference. Still, the wheels in his head were already churning.
She had already reminded him of his former mate- she was as sweet as the other had been, though not as desirable a coloration. No, her browns displeased him, though they were better than the bright things he’d seen walking around. Yellow and blues- what kind of a place was this?
Such scum.
Her peppy attitude reminded him of the naïve nature of his female before he’d broken her. How much fun that had been… how young her pain had made him feel. What he wouldn’t do to feel that young again. What he wouldn’t do indeed. “I have been having trouble locating my son,” he replied faintly, his tone eerily even, “didn’t your mother tell you how dangerous it can be to speak to strangers?”

His indifferent expression and vaguely threatening comment didn't put her off, though she made sure not to step any closer yet. He didn't seem that disturbed at being unable to locate his son, it couldn't have been an emergency. And even though it might have implied he had a mate and family, she wasn't worried about that. Her smile changed ever so slightly to a more sympathetic one.
"I'm sorry you can't find your son, is there anything I can do to help?" she asked, not bothering to comment on the second thing he said. She knew better than to say something like she wasn't worried or he didn't look that scary, didn't want to challenge him. Not intentionally anyway.

“I suppose,” Angusho replied after a thoughtful moment to observe her again, his green eye taking in every last strand of fur. She didn’t look horrible, and she seemed to have a leading edge to her tone that he couldn’t rightly ignore. Whether or not that was what she had been intending, or if she had just been trying to be nice, he couldn’t say.
Nor did he care to discover.
“The best way you could help me, I think, would be to offer me something that might take my mind off the whole situation.” He smiled at that, arching an eyebrow as he kept his eyes pinned on her to see the depth of her reaction.
Not that he was actually going to give her much of a choice if he really wanted to do something to her, but perhaps if she turned out to be willing, then it might prove slightly less tiring. It was always nice not to work for his fun.

Dinah stood tall and unafraid, smiling the same smile as he looked her over thoughtfully. When he did speak, though, her smile lost its sympathy and gained a more.. mischievous quality. It became very clear very quickly she was just as carefree as she appeared to be.
"You think so?" she asked, "I am very good with distractions!" And she daringly stepped closer, completely forgetting whatever caution she had used when he reminded her to be wary of strangers.

He noted the way her expression changed, which only seemed to make him more interested in what he had been hinting out already. Well, it seemed like he had been right about her after all. Good.
Less work for him in the long run.
“Are you now?” He replied, a grin of his own working over his dark features. His smile, however, was less mischievous and more dangerous than anything else. Like she was putting herself in harm’s way just breathing the same air as him. “Somehow, I imagined you would be good at distractions. I’m happy to see that I wasn’t wrong about you. Do you have a den around here?”

Just as she had smiled her way through his cautions, she was unphased by his dangerous smile. Instead, her own smile widened as she privately considered how he did look better when he wasn't being so sulky.
"Absolutely," she confirmed, taking another gentle step closer, now almost near enough to brush against him. She had one problem with his suggestion but she was hardly about to vocalize it. She was careful, in her own way.. even if she gave usually every indication otherwise.
"I don't, actually," she said, "I'm not one to settle down."

Watching the lioness a moment, Angusho chuckled softly, letting her move as close to him as she wanted to. Actually, it was almost nice to have a female close to him again. It had been such a long time since he had allowed any kind of contact that didn’t come from a fight.
Not that this wouldn’t end in one. There was always that chance when it came to the sharp changes in his mood.
“That’s fine,” the large lion replied lightly, “I suppose we can manage well enough on our own. Come with me, then, young lady, and I’ll find us some place to sit together. We can… talk.” Or not. Not talking seemed perfectly acceptable too. He moved slowly forward, not wanting to give her too much room on the off chance that she decided to change her mind and make a sudden run for it.
Too late for a change of heart now.

She seemed satisfied with his reassurance, her sly smile returning and her eyes beaming at him. The change in him was evident but Dinah saw nothing suspicious in it, merely taking it as a sign he was in need of someone being nice to him. Reminded so early to be cautious, she might catch on more quickly.. but it didn't seem any words would change her mind.
"Sounds delightful," she nodded, brushing against him now that he was so close and then taking a small step away to follow wherever he might lead them.

She was still hooked- he could see it in her eyes. There was no need to worry about her turning tail and running: she actually wanted to be there with him. Such a strange, different kind of situation he found himself in, but fun all the same. Not as thrilling as forcing himself on a female, but it would serve to take his mind from his battles.
Smiling, more to himself than as any kind of comfort to her, he led the way, hunting for a nice, secluded, dark spot where they might more intimately enjoy one another’s company.
Certainly helped him feel young again.
