
He shivered. It really was cold in the rain. A ways ahead though appeared his salvation. Not a cave as before, but a strand of trees. He slogged towards it, sighing with relief as he ducked under the low branches. It wasn't a perfect roof, and spare drops still pit-a-patted off his back even as he shook off most of the water. It was bearable though, and as good a place as any to wait the rain out.
Unfortunately this took his mind off the rain an being cold and wet and let it wander back to his once-home. Ohhh how he missed his dear mate. Her loss had hurt most of all. If he'd had his revenge and she'd come running back to him at the end he felt he could have been well again. But she hadn't. She hadn't even waited. How he longed to go back to a better time, when they were together, happy...
