Senshi: Sailor Ursa, Senshi of Bears Name: Freida Larson Nicknames: Fred Age: 16 Birthday: Dec. 8th Sign: Sagittarius Blood Type: O Fav. Food: Trash/the Works/Everything but the kitchen sink Pizza - the messier, the better Hated Food: Hot Dogs or 'Meat Tubes' School: Meadowview High School Hobbies: Pen Tattoos - One of the reasons Fred can't seem to break out of the C grade range is that she tends to draw elaborate tattoos on her right arm during class. Sometimes she'll write down notes on her arm as well, so she does pay attention; she just doesn't pay as much attention as she should. Heavy Metal - Fred loves Heavy Metal music. At any given moment, she's liable to throw some horns, or lay down a sweet riff on air guitar to whatever track is currently playing in her head. She prefers the classics, or songs that romanticize battles. DragonForce and Judas Priest are two of her favorite bands. She also collects Heavy Metal album covers. Fred finds the mix of bizarre subjects (like a cyborg angel riding a dragon motorcycle) intriguing. She often doodles her own album designs onto her arms during class. Roller-blading - It's a great way to get around since she doesn't have a car, and it keeps her in shape. Unless the weather makes it too difficult, Fred will usually use her roller-blades to go everywhere in Destiny City. When she can't rollerblade, she jogs. After all, Rule 1: Cardio. Gemstone: Topaz Virtues: Committed - When Fred commits, she COMMITS. A good friend will bail you out of jail; Fred will be sitting beside you, laughing about how awesome that was. This doesn't apply to just friends, she'll put forth the same effort in a fight, or if there's a school project she's really enthusiastic about. However, certain commitments take importance over others. In general, friends will always have top priority, followed by family, and then school/other commitments. Self-Sufficient - Whether it's finding a place to sleep for the night when arguing with her Dad gets to be too much, making 10 dollars last for a week, or handling herself in a fight, Fred knows how to take care of herself. While this stemmed from a desire to show her Dad that, yes, she could take care of herself, when she learned that she actually was capable of handling whatever life threw at her, it was a great boost to her self-confidence. Since Fred knows she's capable of finding ways to solve a problem, she copes with dangerous, or difficult situations much more calmly than most people. Fertile Imagination - Ever play one of those old text adventures? Where you have to search the environment for a way to get past a bear in a cave, for example. A logical way to get the bear out of the cave would be to lure it out with food; a creative way would be to travel to the past to hire Freud to distract the bear by analyzing its depressed habit of sleeping all winter. Fred takes great pleasure in imagining fantastic situations, and then finding creative ways to solve them. When she actually takes the time to apply this to real life problems, she makes for a good brain-stormer on school projects, she always has something she wants to try for fun, and she was a right terror when it came to planning pranks. Flaws: Rebellious - Fred hates being told what to do, especially when there's no explanation involved, or if she feels she's being ordered. It's almost an impulsive behavior, as Fred will even lose interest in doing something she wanted to do when ordered to do it. Most of the time, she'll simply try to avoid the task. However, if she's confronted about it, she'll become belligerent. In general, it can be a pain in the a** to get her to do something, unless you coax her, or get her to think it was her idea to begin with. Escapist - While Fred never backs down from a challenge she thinks is interesting, she avoids mundane situations like the plague. If she's doing chores, her mind inevitably drifts away, coming up with contingency plans should zombies attack tomorrow. This usually results in chores left half done, or done badly. In some cases, she'll literally escape from a situation she can't deal with. Primarily, her rocky relationship with her Dad. Demanding - When Fred is friends with someone, she makes sure she's always there for them. She expects the same in return. So, if you've made plans to go out with some other friends, and you forget to invite her, she thinks something has gone wrong. Tentative inquiries about whether or not you're mad at her can easily turn into jealous remarks about your choice in company, guilt trips about how she always, always remembers to invite you, and a screaming fit unless you tell her what she wants to hear. Namely, that you were wrong, and it won't happen again. Physical Description:Hair: Strawberry blonde. The style is mostly straight, but gently feathered, and ends a little beyond shoulder length. Her bangs end just above her eyebrows, and create a loose curtain across her entire forehead. Perfect for headbanging. Eyes: Deep set, and Dark blue with a ring of gray right around the pupil. She usually wears smokey eye makeup. Face: Oval shaped face. Ears tend to be covered by hair. Her nose is long and straight. Fred's lips are wide and expressive. Body: Average height. Average weight. Mesomorphic build. Large hands and feet. Pale skin that burns, then tans. Her right forearm usually has pen tattoos covering it, or if she's washed the tattoos off, tends to have a slightly purple tint to it. Fuku Color: Brown as the primary with teal as secondary? Fur and metal for accents and accessories. Think Viking senshi! Fuku: Mostly CC, with a few requests. Collar -- Fur, please! Brooch -- Maltese CrossChoker -- Spiked collar Attacks: 1a: Ursa Minor: Arcas Charge! When Ursa points the palm of her hand at her target, and yells this attack, a glowing bear claw-print shoots out from her hand. If the print hits the target, it delivers the force of a powerful punch. This power can be used twice per battle. 1b: Ursa Minor: Arcas Assault! When yelling this attack, Ursa points both palms at the target. Two bear paw prints shoot out, and envelop the target in a rib-bruising bear hug. This also immobilizes the targets arms for two posts. Can be used once per battle. 2: Ursa Major: Mantle of Callisto! When Ursa yells this attack, her senshi collar extends down, forming a cape of bear fur. From this cape two bear arms form, (like the ORLY hat from Gaia) and they follow the movement of Freds' arms. The arms may be used to attack, defend, or move about the area with all the strength of a real bear for three posts. Can be used once per battle. Challenge: Prepare to be mauled!

Family: Father: Henry Larson. Retired army officer. Honorably discharged after sustaining a debilitating injury to his knee. Owns a Surplus Army Supply store. Believes strongly in discipline and order. Mother: Heidi Larson. Seamstress/Housewife. She and Henry were high-school sweet-hearts. They married after his injury, and settled down to have kids. She defers all authority in running the household to her husband. Brother: Henry Larson Jr. "Junior" Five years older than Freida. Juvenile delinquent reformed through military school. Currently on a Tour of Duty in the army. Pet: Patton, a golden retriever. Henry named him. Heidi spoils him. Fat and happy.
History: The earliest memory Freida has is from when she was four years old. Her Dad was this big person who usually ignored her, unless she started crying. Her Mom loved to talk at her, and dressed Freida in pretty pink dresses, but rarely listened to her. Junior was nine and, as far as Freida was concerned, the second coming of Jesus Christ. She could ask him anything; he'd always listen, and answer. And he always let her come with him when he did 'grown-up' stuff, like borrowing Dad's tools, and removing the lug nuts from the cars' tires (and forgot to put back). But this memory in particular stood out because Junior had dared to tell Dad NO, when Dad told him to do something. No one told Dad NO. Freida couldn't remember what Dad had told Junior to do, but she did remember how loud Dad got. And she remembered that Junior hadn't even cried one bit when he was grounded with neither TV, nor dessert for the rest of the week. Awed beyond belief, Freida sneaked cookies from the table to share with Junior later. Junior was the person who secretly bought a Metallica album, and let Freida listen with him on the record player in Dads study. Junior pulled wilder and wilder stunts, and continued to tell Dad 'no'. Though no was later replaced with words that made Dads face turn an alarming shade of maroon when he heard them. Freida was the sidekick, the quiet shadow at Junior's back. She willingly helped him with whatever scheme he was working on, dressed like him, and even tried saying 'no' to Dad like he had. Dad rarely punished her, however. No matter what she did, Dad always assumed that Junior had put her up to it, and punished him. Junior never blamed Freida, though. When she was 7 years old, Freida asked Junior why he always did things to make Dad angry. 12 year old Junior told her that it was because he didn't want to be stuck under Dads thumb all his life. He wanted to be his own man. A man runs his life the way he wants, and doesn't back down from anyone. Freida agreed, saying she wanted to do that, too. Junior laughed. "You want to be a man?" he asked. "Yeah!" Freida replied, scowling. "I want to run my life the way I want." "Okay! But you can't have a girls name. You'll end up like Mom, doing nothing but chores. We'll call you... Fred!" Two years later, Junior pulled his best stunt yet. It took a team of plumbers to put the middle schools' toilets back to rights, and Junior spent a night in a holding cell at the Police Station. He was expelled from school, and Dad enrolled him in military school. By the time Fred blinked, Junior was far, far away, and she was alone at home. A sidekick without a hero, Fred would curl up on Junior's bed and listen to his Heavy Metal albums, wishing he was there. She began collecting more albums, for when Junior returned, and even schemed up some pranks of her own. After awhile, the feeling of loneliness turned into resentment towards her Dad. He was always trying to tell everyone in the family what to do! If he didn't get his way, he'd start yelling, and he sent the people who didn't agree with him far away. He was selfish and stupid. Since Junior wasn't here to stand up to him, Fred resolved to do so for both of them. The next time Dad told her to do something, Fred said NO. She locked the door to her room, and played Heavy Metal at top volume. She pulled pranks, shocked the neighbors, and generally ran wild. When Dad threatened to send her to Military School, too, she ran away for a week. When she came home, she and Dad screamed at each other for an hour before Mom, in possibly the most courageous moment of her entire life, threatened to leave Dad if he sent anymore of their children away. Dad relented. There was an uneasy truce in the household. Then, a 19 year old Junior graduated from Military School, and came home. When Dad told him to do something, he said YES, SIR. He politely declined when Fred asked if he wanted to listen to the albums she'd gotten for him, and said she could keep all his old ones. He and Dad talked about the Army, and Junior spent more time in Dads store than at home, talking with Dads Army friends. After a few months, he was leaving for Boot Camp. Two days before he left, Fred confronted him. "What happened to you?!" she yelled at him. "Where'd all that talk go? About being a Man, and running your life how you want?" "I still believe that. I'm doing just that, Freida! This is what I want." he replied, patting her on the head. "It's FRED!" she screamed, and knocked his hand away. "You're doing what Dad wants you to! He sent you away! Threw you out 'cause you wouldn't listen to him, and now you come crawling back. Like a f*****g dog! Tail between your legs! SIT, ROLL OVER, HEEL! You are a dog. Go play dead." She turned away and stormed out of the house. Fred couldn't stay angry with Junior. Instead, she held her Dad responsible for Junior's change. If he hadn't sent Junior to Military School... Fred spends a lot of time thinking about what might have been. Present day. Fred and her Dad wage a Cold War, though there are the occasional skirmishes. Fred plays down the pranks and wild behavior, paying more attention to school and friends, waiting patiently, more or less, for her 18th birthday to come around, so she can finally get a place of her own. The only thing that brings she and her Dad together are the correspondences from Junior. Fred thinks she's beginning to understand why Junior joined the Army, but she rather die than let her Dad know.
TL;DR Fred got her nickname from her brother, Junior, whom she idolized as a little kid. Junior was a juvenile delinquent, who was eventually expelled from his Middle School, and enrolled in Military School by their extremely strict Dad. Fred became twice as wild to make up for Junior's not being there. When Junior comes back, he's reformed, and Fred feels betrayed. She eventually forgives Junior, but still has a massive grudge against her Dad.

I like moveset 1 better, because it sounds more bearlike to me. Her second moveset sounds like it could fit a lot of other spheres.
As for her character, I think there's a better way to word "Rebel Without a Cause." It sounds like her cause is not wanting to obey others. "Rebellious." could work. The "Without a Cause" sounds like it clashes with her "Commited" one to me.
Other than that, her character sounds good.

XD Sorry for the confusion! I was just using the James Dean phrase to try and get the right feel for her character. I've simplified it.

Just a few things I was curious about. How did she get her nickname? Was she always the way she is now, or did she change as she grew? Could you elaborate a little more about her relationship with her father and why it affected her?
I like attack set 1, also. I agree that it sounds more bear-like. Best of luck!!

Pen Tattoos brought a HUGE grin to my face -- I don't think I've seen that hobby used before! XDD
With her 'Committed,' would she put her friends before her schoolwork or whatever she's enthusiastic about? Let's say she has to deliver a presentation for a class on DragonForce. On her way to class, she sees her best friend in tears. It turns out that her best friend was injured -- nothing serious, but her friend is convinced that their attacker would "be back" to finish them off. Would she drop her project in favor of helping and staying with her friend to make sure everything's okay? On that note, what about her family -- are her friends/peers more important to her than her family?
Or, in the case of 'Self-Sufficient,' does she place herself before her friends since her friends can't help themselves, and thus she dedicates her time to them after she's sure she'll be fine? 'Self-Sufficient' strikes me as being a series of examples of what 'self-sufficient' is, rather than how Freida herself is self-sufficient. What does she do that prompts other people to view her as self-sufficient? Details please!
Since Fred will lose interest in something she wanted to do if pressured/ordered to, how would this work with her commited virtue? Would she use her imagination to do what she commited to do, but in a way that the orders didn't say? Say for instance she agreed to wash a car, then was later ordered to wash said car. Would she take a sponge and instead of using it to scrub the car clean, would she first soak the sponge up with soapy water before flinging it at the car again and again in different places to soap it up, then later hose it off? She's not exactly washing the car, but she's still cleaning it.
Other then that, I LOVE her attacks! She sounds like a fun character to RP! :3 I just need some more details for her virtues. <3
Congrats on getting her, by the way!

Thank you, Maru! <3
Friends definitely take top priority with Fred. Especially injured friends. Fred would stay with her, and Fred would also hope this attacker showed up again, just so she could kick his/her a**. If she was really committed to the project, she'd worry about it, and perhaps try to contact the teacher to see if she could postpone the presentation, but if it came down to choosing between the two, Fred will always choose her friends.
The commitment hierarchy goes something like this: Friends, Family, School/Other.
As for self-sufficiency, I added a bit to the explanation up top. But Fred would most likely look to use her self-sufficiency for her friends' benefit, if she could. Let's say her injured friend from before is scared to go home. Fred would offer to help her find a place to hole up for the night where this attacker couldn't find her. To most other people, Fred would appear self-sufficient in that she rarely panics if faced with a difficult situation. If she's outnumbered in a fight, instead of freaking out, she'll be looking for ways to gain an advantage, or just a good escape route. She has stashes of necessities (make-up, some money, a change of clothing, hygiene products, etc.) hidden away in places around Destiny City. She always seems to have a band-aid on her, or change for a phone booth.
The above is also one of the reasons Fred hates being told what to do, especially when she's told how to do something. It's pretty insulting when someone goes into a step-by-step process on how to wash a car, when you know how to do it, and you've done it before. In most cases, she will try to find a different way to do something, if she committed to it previously. However, if the person insists it be done a certain way, Fred is likely to cut corners, or take forever doing it, complaining loudly the entire time. She'll also avoid committing herself to doing anything for that person ever again.

I'm really glad you got her! She looks awesome!
As I'm here from the Crit Above thread, I will begin by saying that I can't really think of anything to crit! She's really well-fleshed out and her background explains her personality and I really love that! BUT. I will say two things, ha ha!
(This is little and silly, but I'm curious.) Her hated food is hot dogs/ "meat tubes" (eeew) but does she like sausage? It's a common topping on pizza and fairly similar to hot dogs. Little, but does she like them?
Also! To what extent does her rebellion go to? If a teacher commands her to do a project or assignment, will she refuse and get an F or suck it up and do it simply for the grade?
I love her name! Such a great story. Hope she gets stamped soon! biggrin

Can we get some more information on how Fertile Imagination works as a virtue, e.g. makes her likable or admirable? Right now it reads off a bit more like a hobby than a positive trait.

Its the combination of the texture, taste, and shape of the hot dog Fred can't stand. She's fine with sausage, since that's spiced, and looks like little nuggets on pizza, usually.
As for being ordered to do a project, Fred would first consider what effect not doing the project would have on her grade. If she thinks she could get away with, she'll happily drop the project. If the project was important to her grade, she'd do the bare minimum required to get a passing grade, and nothing more.
I've added a few examples of how Fred applies the Fertile imagination to real life. I hope that helps define it more.
Thanks for the critiques, both of you! <3

Just one more thing, I think, could you add up the answers to Maru's questions on her Committed virtue as well? The friends-family-school-other hierarchy seems like it's pretty important.

And hence Stephen Colbert listed Destiny City as the most dangerous place in America. Not for its monster sightings and mysterious epidemics, but for one senshi. Sailor. Ursa.
