I have to prepare for The Wizard of Oz auditions in 20 days. It totally slipped up on me. I was thinking of doing Over the Rainbow, but isn't everyone? I know competition for this one will be huge and I dunno how I'd cope with not getting to do anything. The director's already supposedly handed this other girl the part of Dorothy, and I need something that will totally blow him and everyone else away...any ideas? cry

Maybe you could do something from Wicked... You know, pull something REALLY different out and say "another perspective from the land of oz". The Wizard and I would be a good one to do...

What EVER you do, do NOT sing "Over the Rainbow!" lol
Infact, rule #1 for auditions is not to sing a song from the show you are auditioning from. Big no no. Wicked would be cute to do, but I'm sure that lots of people that will be audition might have thought of that. Songs from the Wiz might be popping up left and right too.
If I were you, I'd steer clear of all songs from the Wizard of Oz or that are from a show related to it. Look for a song SIMILAR to the style of the show, just not from it.

Sad, yet true. If you sing something from the musical, the director will most likely notice your lack of creativity. Depending on your range, I would definitely sing something from Wicked if you have it. Otherwise, other good slower songs are Fine, Fine Line from Avenue Q I Dreamed a Dream from Les Mis Memory from Cats Somewhere That's Green from Little Shop Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from Phantom of the Opera

Follow rule number one to the letter of the law. Countless freshmen have come up to me before auditions and asked me if they should sing something from the show. NO. And for all males out there - Never sing I Dreamed a Dream if you are nervous. You end up switching Hes and Shes so that it sounds like some sort of dirty love triangle. (She slept a summer by my side, he filled my days with endless wonder... redface )

Do not sing anything from Wicked. Is there belting in the wizard of oz? No. So why would you do a belting song?
I agree higly with WickedElphie. Pick a song that has a similar style to The Wizard of Oz. Also look for something that shows off your range. Maybe Someone to Watch Over me by the Gershwins. That has a similar sound and range.

Wicked I agree would be cute. But It is denouncing the Wizard, so don't pick a song that shows that off unless, the teacher knows the story of Wicked, Then I suggest not doing a song from the show at all.... xp

Oooh, FOND memories of when I made a complete a** of myself by singing "Snoopy" at You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown auditions. Yeeeah. That was embarassing as hell. sweatdrop
The director of The Fantasticks advised us to do this: Whichever character you're trying out for, think about a song that personafies them really well and also sounds like something they would sing, then sing that for the audition.
So that didn't exactly work for me, but I was still stuck on Charlie Brown at the time. I trust you'll make a better decision. 3nodding

I sang "Some Enchanted Evening" at South Pacific auditions. *shakes head* On afterthought, I really should've picked something else.

IrethAmandil biggrin Wow, thanks for all the ideas! So... Someone to Watch Over Me, Memory, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again or, if I was to do it, The Wizard and I? Of those, I would choose option #3. Or, just a suggestion, I'm Not That Girl. Do NOT do The Wizard And I because, as someone mentioned, there is no belting as far as I know in Wizard of Oz.

Or you could look into other songs Judy Garland had sung because more than likely they'll all be the same type of style.

I agree with Pharaoh, I think you should sing I'm Not That Girl. Its not a belting song, like someone mentioned that would be bad, and I was listening to Wicked while thinking about you audition and thought that I'm Not That Girl reminded me of Over The Rainbow.
Well, that's my two cents. ^^
