Though the herbs had dried and were not the most fragrant they had been from the start, they were still potent enough to remind Mito of his time with the plant-collecting lioness he had met some time back. It was a nice distraction from the pain he was in, actually.
It had been an accident. He'd fallen from a cliffside after making sure a cub stayed away from the crumbling edge, pushing the young animal out of harm's way, only to take the fall himself. Luckily, it hadn't been a high enough cliff to kill him, though the damage was still done.
Lying in the dirt, one paw tucked under his body while the rest were splayed out in random directions, he didn't have it in him to home- it hurt. Everything felt like it was hurting. His ears were ringing. Was something broken? Doubtful. but he still didn't want to move.

Ever since her family found out about her, Val had felt so much freer, she had no qualms popping in and out of the family's home territory and she rarely hid her wings now. Val felt good in her skin and was glad that her family excepted her.
Since she didn't feel the need to hide who she was Val didn't bother to hide her wings when she went searching for herbs. So when she came to the top of a very small cliff she wasn't really afraid of falling, being able to fly had its benefits. She noticed the fresh dirt and the grass that had been ripped from its roots telling her that the edge crumbled but a light groan told her that someone had fallen when the edge gave way.
Looking over the edge Val spotted a dark green, dirt covered lion splayed out in every direction. He was breathing but he wasn't moving. It was obvious to the goddess that he was hurt so she only hesitated a moment as she mentally inventoried everything she had on her before running down the cliff, or to be more accurate running down the air.
She landed a few feet away and was about to say something when she finally recognized the markings under the dirt. "Mito?!? Oh gods." Val raced over to him and hesitated moving him. If something was broken moving it right now would be a very bad idea.
She desperately wanted to help but her training kicked in and after a moment of collecting herself she crouched down in front of Mito's face. "Mito? Can you here me Mito?"

The large male groaned again, keeping his eyes closed though he had heard the female calling his name. Sniffing the air, he offered a faint smile, slowly opening his eyes to see the blurry figure before him. “Val..” he muttered faintly, “I remembered your scent… those herbs… sorry, I think I might have crushed the ones you gave me before..” He was rambling a little, he knew it.
But his mind was a little fogged over at that moment thanks to the tumble he had taken. It took him a couple moments, and a few more heavy blinks, before he managed to find some better focus.
“You look different,” he observed thoughtfully, slowly attempting to sit himself up. His paw, the one that had been under his body, hurt terribly to move. Shifting his weight and moving it carefully out from under him revealed he must have bashed it against the cliff-face: there was a large gash in the limb, blood seeping through his fur and dripping onto the dirt below him. Sighing, he continued his journey, getting himself to a sitting position, his head bowed forward.
Everything was kind of spinning.
“I guess… I must have fallen…” he mumbled to himself, still working some of the haze out of his thoughts.

"Oh, Mito." Val sighed in relief when Mito groaned and started to talk. "The herbs? Oh, that's alright they were just plants anyway." Val was surprised that Mito still had the small bundle of herbs she gave them the last time they met.
She frowned slightly when she saw how much it took him to focus. It be something serious that was causing the problem. Knowing that she had to do something she quickly slipped off her bag and started to slide out a few things that would come in handy.
"Well that's what happens when one gets older." She said distractedly not even remembering that her wings were in full view. Val looked up briefly to see Mito siting up slowly, she bit her tongue when she wanted to tell him to lay back down but that thought was pushed to the side when she saw his paw.
With speed that came with practice she used a claw to open a gourd that she had pulled out just moments ago. Speaking in a slow and soothing voice Val said, "Now Mito we have to take care of the bleeding first and it might sting. Then we have to clear that head of yours." A few deft movements had a thin film of paste over the long gash, its bright plant sent drifting on the wind.
"What were you doing on the edge of a cliff?" Val asked as she fished around in her bag for a particular herb. When she found it she crushed it on a small rock and slid it so it sat right underneath Mito's lowered head. It was a surprisingly pungent aroma, not a horrible smell but something that made one sit up and take notice.

“No… not just because you’re older,” he said softly, watching her blurry form. He knew there were wings there, he just didn’t know if it was his imagination or not.
Mito smiled faintly, listening to her as he let his head rest on the floor, not bothering to try and lift it up again as he sank back against the ground fully. It just proved too much to be sitting up, even if he didn’t want to worry her. Everything was still dancing around him without much desire to slow down, making it difficult for him to keep his eyes open. However, he knew going back to sleep probably wouldn’t be the best thing for him right at that moment, either. Clearly he had bumped his head. Hadn’t someone told him that he wasn’t supposed to sleep if he had bumped his head? Maybe it had been his mother, so long ago now.
He couldn’t really remember.
Mito let her work on his paw without much complaint, wincing slightly at the pain he felt when the plant made contact with his flesh. If it would help, he’d endure it, if only because he knew it wouldn’t mend well on his own. He really sucked at taking care of himself, didn’t he?
“Ah… there was a cub,” he muttered lowly, feeling his head clear a bit, “he was a bit too close to the edge and the whole thing started to crumble.. I pushed him to safety, but I guess it all collapsed under my weight. Least the cub didn’t fall, though. I don’t think he would have been as lucky as me..”

"Hum well don't know what to say. I can only guess the fact that I am older and now a mother as to why I look different." Val smiled in a distracted way as she focused on Mito's cut and his reaction to the fall. When he sank back down to the ground Val was concerned and yet glad that he was laying down again. Obviously the fall did a number on him and yet there was only so much she could do, herbs can only heal so far.
"A cub hum?" Keep him talking she thought to herself as she tried to think of more things she could do. "Well its a good thing you were here then even if you fell. Mito you have got to keep talking because I think you hit your head badly and sleep would be very bad." She crushed a few more of her herbs making the plant smell even stronger, anything really to keep him up and talking. She checked the gash and noticed the blood had stopped flowing. "Good, good. Now this past should also help with infections. I think all we have to worry about right now is your head. How is it feeling?"
