Say if a person practices in Pure Land tradition (or some other tradition)..Is it ok to benefit from other traditions as well like Theravada, Zen, Tibetan. I sort of answered my own question by saying "neither are superior or inferior to each other" I mean they are all teachings of the Buddha...Like say if a person practices Zen, can they do the chant of metta...Like I said, can they benefit from the teachings in that way?

All of Buddhism is just a tool.

Think if it like a raft we use to get from the shore of existence, across the river of Samsara, and onto the shore of Nirvana.

If you have one box of tools that is Pure Land, and another box that is Zen, and another that is Tibetan, and so on and so forth - you may find that you can use a tool from one box to do the same job as a tool from another box - it just works differently.

Also, in the end, we don't keep the raft with us - it's just a means to an end, not a means to itself.

Ah ok ^_^ Similar to an actual toolbox or like an artist using different materials to paint and still work the same way.

Well my reply is in no way going to be as nice or well put as the last, but I think its healthy to experience many things before taking a direct path. Every one has to find their own way..

At this point in my life I follow no select religion or following. Im still trying to find myself.. but I dont want to jump into anything. In this process I have learned bits and peices from a few religions, and though many people might look down on me for suposedly 'picking a choosing,' Im still trying to find my way, and some of the things I have found so far make me happy.

Buddhism is a path I am still learning from. I would not consider myself a Buddhist at this point at all, even if it may be a path I eventualy take.. however there are alot of things Ive learned from it that are helpful to me, and I have a huge respect for it.

Anyway.. what Im trying to say is you don't have to limit yourself. We all have something to learn from one another.
