Before Death
Kei died at the age of 17, he was an above average athlete, and rather intelligent by most standards in the world of the living. He loved his home in Venice, but often would leave for days at a time, telling no one where he went. He didn’t want anyone to know of his ‘home away from home’. His entire little kingdom was actually a dense forest that led into a swamp. He would stay within this barely habitable landscape for days at a time, learning new survival skills for himself.
However one day when he went to visit his swamp he found that man were cutting down the trees around the forest, heading towards the center of his sanctum. He could not allow this to happen, without thinking for even a moment Kei ran towards the loggers, his dirk in hand. As he approached the men, and demanded that they stop at once, the men ignored him and continued destroying his home, instantly he lost all train of logic and reasoning, and he launched and attached himself to one of the men from behind. He slit the man’s throat, and tried to attack the next man, but was no where near as fortunate this time, and died by the man’s hand. His body was hidden within the swamp that he adored so very much.
After Death
Once he awoke within the Seireitei he quickly became a recluse, stealing what he needed to survive. One day after running into the woods from a vendor he had stolen from, he fell through a pit deep within the forest. Kei screamed for help as loudly as he could but after the first day he gave up. He stayed trapped there for nearly four days barely surviving off of the food he had stolen.
When he was about to give up and pass out, he heard a voice call to him, shocked Kei stood up immediately a listened, when he didn’t hear it again, he passed out. Within his dreams, he was deep within a swamp. Kei looked around, and noticed a fog had been rolling in, Kei had finally given up; he was ready to embrace death for the second time. He felt a surge of pride; he would not allow himself to die. He raced towards the heavy fog, ready to stand fearless in the face of death. What he found was not death, but a dark and cloaked man. The man looked at him for a moment, and muttered something. Kei couldn’t hear him clearly and when he asked again he woke up. Looking around he found himself out of the pit and in front of the gates to the Soul Reaper academy.
Within the Academy
When a couple of teachers passed by they asked him what had happened, when he told them his story, they knew immediately what had occurred, and urged him to join the Academy. When he did, he found that he was skilled with a zanpakuto, more so than most of the other students and a couple teachers, however he found himself rather weak in the area of most high level Kido, and moderately successful within the medium levels and below. The only class that he rarely needed to train in was the area of “Ho-ho” or the training of the ‘Shunpo” skill, Kei found out quickly that he was a ‘natural’ at using this particular skill.
Kei graduated the academy with one of the highest grades within the area of Zanjutsu, and ho-ho, but one of the lowest when it came to Kido. But upon graduation he was offered a seat within the 10th squad company and quickly worked his way up through missions, to the Vice-Captain seat.
