• • •_______________________________________• • • MAJOR CONSTRUCTION Harionago (針女子) The Harionago, also known as Harionna (針女), is a frightening female ghoul in Japanese mythology. Her name literally meaning "Barbed woman", the Harionago is said to be a beautiful woman with extremely long hair tipped with thorn-like barbs. Her hair is under her direct control, and she uses it to ensnare men.
She is said to wander the roads of the Japanese prefecture of Ehime on the island of Shikoku, searching for victims. When she finds a young man, she will laugh at him, and if the young man dares to laugh back, Harionago will drop her terrible, barbed hair and attack."It's also called "Nureonago" and Warai-onago (laughing girl). It uses hooks at the end of its hair, ensnares the man with them and takes him away. If ensnared, even a great man can't move about." Sighting "In a village near the (Matsuyama) castle, Sakuragaoka/Sakuraoka, there is frequent sightings of Harionago, which are places where young men have suffered.
One night, a boy from Yamada village happened to pass by this place, and a beautiful girl came walking in the opposite direction.
Because she was smirking and laughing, he thought there was something uncomfortable about her, but he was taken by her looks and returned a laugh/smile.
When he did, her hair fell down in disarray and rushed at him.
The boy was alarmed, and as fast as he could, he ran back to his house, closing the door trembling.
He timidly waited until dawn by the front door. There were scratches left behind by the countless number of hairs caught in the door.
Because it was a wooden door, he barely escaped.
After that, if a boy was chased by Haraionago, the lesson was it was necessary to shut the main door and not the sliding-door (ie. so the hairs couldn't get through the door)."
Even if you're somewhere like Hiromi village, if you (a boy) are walking down the road and you meet a smirking, laughing girl that gives a slight maddening and eerie feeling, and if you're taken in by the girl's laugh and return a smile, you need to pay special attention to the fact that she will spitefully follow you.
But, if you yell in a loud voice, the single word, "Fussy", it is said to disappear.
Her hair, which in some stories has the color and scent of roses.

Mythical Creature: Harionago
Gender: Female
Type: Japanese Yōkai/Ghoul?
Status: Customer
Age: Unknown, but appears to be the age of a young woman.
Origin: Most believe she has always simply been a Yōkai/Ghoul. There have been no stories so far as to how she became as she is, so it's assumed she's always simply been. She frequents the streets of cities and towns in search of play and prey.
History: One of the biggest questions concerned a Harionago is why it targets only men? Anyone unfamiliar with Riona herself would just assume malice and blood-thirst were the only leading motivators, but there is another. It is whispered that at the beginning of the Yōkai's life other young spirits would ridicule the blooming female, tormenting her because of their jealousy over her beauty and their desire. Finding no interest in males, she fled to the human realm to escape the jealousy and coveting of other spirits, ghouls, gods, and demons.
Harionaga wandered the streets and villages, blessing them with beautiful and healthy newborn daughters that were said to have been granted some of Riona's own beauty. After many, many years of wandering the human realm the Harionago was lured into a home, beckoned to greet a newborn baby. As she went inside though, a man closed the door behind her sealing her in. With the curse of a weakness against shut doors, the Yōkai was held captive and ravaged by the village men.
No one knows what happened for certain and how the female escaped or where she went to after, but some believe that a wife, jealousy of her husbands desire for the non-consenting Riona, went into the house to poison the Yōkai, but made the mistake of leading it open once she was inside. The next morning all of the men in the village were found dead and mutilated as if pierced, leaving behind traces of silky black hair among the bodies.
Since then villages, towns, and cities, but more specifically men, have cursed the creature known as the Harionago. Said to bring death to her male suitors and those unlucky enough to cross her on a dark road, men are warned never to laugh and smile back at her provocation. It is merely a trap of the Harionago, weeding out what she deems as "the filthy and vile male humans that plague that realm, to save other maidens from their wandering eyes."
Prey & Payment: As mentioned above, Riona's most common prey is the human male, but not limited to. Generally she kills these men if she can, taking their lives which gives her strength and energy. While this is the most heard about victim, because of the horror behind the deaths, human males are in fact not her most common 'prey'. Females, most being human women, are actually a source of energy for her too, not simply a form of attraction of entertainment.
While she may kill her male victims, Riona is said to never harm a female 'victim', but simply saps some of the emotions and energy from them instead. This 'feeding' of their energy occurs when their emotions are at the most extreme, usually during rage/hate, or passion. It's rumored that if a beautiful young woman attracts the attention of the Harionago, the creature will reward the human with a gift. Most commonly it's a comb with never with the same design. The comb is suppose to be a personal gift from Riona, and allows a connection with the Harionago.
Good Fortune: While Riona may bring blood in her stories, she is also said to be a creature of good fortune in the right circumstances. Just the same as during her childhood, a visit from the Harionago promises a beautiful and healthy baby if it is female. It is possible for the Harionago to temporary take residence at a home of women/a woman, gifting those who live there with good fortune and watching over the residents as a Guardian. Only one rumored case has appeared where Riona has actually gifted a lock of her own hair with one of her combs. This rare and special gift is said to allow the person to summon the Harionago in times of need by burning one of the gifted strands with a strand of the owners own hair in a fire.
