Wazo:(11:31:35 AM):
Normally, Wazo was well-behaved, for her family. When it was naptime, she slept. Except for today. She'd TRIED to go to sleep! Really she had. But...for some reason, her legs felt restless and she couldn't get comfy and she just WASN'T tired. The cub sighed and looked around. Her family was asleep. Which meant she was by herself. And Kaa'wazo really didn't want to be all by herself. But she didn't dare wake her siblings. Or Mommy or Daddy or Grandma or Grandpa...Ah! She knew who to bug! She grinned and trotted towards her target, avoiding stepping on her siblings.
And then she pounced, a grin on her face. "Mis'er Zaphod~" Maybe the big blue lion would keep her company while the others slept!
Zaphod: (11:35:22 AM):
Zaphod never slept with the family. As Makaa and Zap slept, he'd sit a few yards away, alert as an eagle and still as a boulder. Only when one of the other adults had stirred would the self-imposed servant curl up for a rest. Even then, his sleep never lasted long. Between keeping the cubs entertained and the occassional migrane-inducing vision, he didn't often see a good day's rest.
He turned his head slowly, perking an ear as one of the little ones approached. Mister?
He blinked, starring at the cub in silence. Maybe it had been a slip of the tongue..
Wazo:(11:42:01 AM):
Wazo didn't catch that she'd said something to catch him off guard. Instead, the orangey-red cub just grinned. "I can't sleep. But I don't wanna wake anyone up." She looked a bit sheepish, knowing she should have been asleep. "Can I stay around you, until someone wakes up?" Even though she didn't really have any intentions of hanging around anywhere else...it was still nice to ask! And...well, she sometimes remembered her manners. This was one of those times.
Zaphod: (11:43:15 AM):
Zaphod tipped his head and took a slow glance back toward the others. Grunting, he nodded. "We should walk a little farther out." He jerked his chin towards a fallen tree not too far off. "We don't want to wake them."
Wazo:(11:52:44 AM):
Yay! Wazo trotted a little ahead, then turned so she could walk backwards. "Thank you, Mis'er Zaphod!" Grown-ups were all sorts of smart. She wouldn't have thought of going further out. And then probably would have ended up waking someone up. And that would have been Not Good. "So what were ya doin'?"
Zaphod: (11:56:18 AM):
"Don't call me mister, please." He insisted softly. His voice, low and raspy, barely broke over a whisper. He walked slowly and carefully. A cub could make her way easily over the grass without making too much sound, but an adult had to mind themselves a little better.
"Hm?" He lifted hsi ears then slowly looked to the side. "Just...thinking."
Wazo:(12:01:00 PM):
Wazo blinked, then nodded. "Kay~" If he didn't like 'mister', than she'd respect that! She made sure not to be too far ahead of him, since he was moving slowly. Not that it was too much of an issue, since she was only a cub, and she didn't have longer legs yet. "What were you thinking about?" She knew all sorts of things about her family...but the big blue lion that traveled with them was always a mystery. And she didn't like not-knowing about her odd 'family'. Made her feels a little less...'big sister-y'.
Zaphod: (12:09:10 PM):
He stretched himself out on the trunk of the fallen tree as they came to their landmark. His eyes, red as blood and heavy with unspoken thoughts, slowly shifted down to the young cub.
"I...your aunt. She's on my mind often."
Wazo:(12:18:40 PM):
The cub wiggled into a hollow part of the log, popping her head up through a hole, so she could talk to Zaphod without the tree in the way. "Aunt?" She thought a moment, then blinked. "One of Daddy's sisters? Or one of Mommy's?" Whichever it was, they were probably back in the pride her Mommy and Daddy grew up in.
Zaphod: (12:20:25 PM):
"Your father's. He looks...similar to her I suppose. It's a very large family." He slowly reached a paw out and touched the top of her head. Perhaps she was trying to play a game with him? It was hard to say. Might as well give her something more to do than talk to her.
Wazo:(12:28:14 PM):
Oooooh. That's right. Her Daddy had more siblings than Mommy. "And Mommy and Daddy made it even bigger, with me and my siblings!" She liked her giant family though. It was all sorts of fun. Even if it was a little confusing trying to set an example for all her siblings. Needless to say, she tended to not succeed. When he tapped her on the head, she giggled and ducked down...then popped up at the end of the tree, where she'd gone in.
"What about your family? Before us. Was it big too?"
Zaphod: (1:37:27 PM):
He chuckled dryly. In the desert, he'd outright given up trying to track all the relatives, the aunts, uncles, cousins, second-cousins. It was too far over his head.
The question earned a wince from the young male. He'd been a cub when he was taken, a very young cub. He knew his family was large but he couldn't even remember their faces. "Yeah.."
Wazo:(1:43:11 PM):
Wazo blinked and scrambled onto the fallen tree proper, looking a bit worried. "I said something bad, didn't I?" Her worry changed to apology on her face, ears going back. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say something bad." Was his family before them a Bad One? Or maybe he lost them? She hoped he'd just lost them. Because....because Bad Ones were worse. From the stories she'd heard.
Zaphod: (1:45:45 PM):
"Oh no." He shook his head slowly. "You didn't say anything bad. I've been accused of being a bit of a pessimist. I dwell on things."
He reached over and laid his paw on her head. "Or maybe I was tricking you into coming out."
Wazo:(1:47:36 PM):
She looked a bit confused, then pouted. "Hey....tricking others is bad!" She looked rather silly, pouting like she was. But she didn't like being tricked! "Dun do it again, kay Zaphod?" He was a grown-up! He was supposed to be a good example, not a tricky-type one.
Zaphod: (1:55:57 PM):
He chuckled and leaned his head against the fallen log with a long sigh. "I'm sorry. I thought we were playing. Sometimes you have to use your head."
Wazo:(2:00:01 PM):
"Oh." Wazo rubbed her cheek. "Well...I guess we were playing." She smiled and nudged his cheek. "I'm sorry, too. We can still play! I think I even got the hang of what we were playing!" Her smile grew to a grin.
Zaphod: (2:42:37 PM):
"I'm not sure what exactly we're playing." He gave the log a short inspection and frowned. "Am I supposed to go next? I don't think I'll fit."
Wazo:(2:46:51 PM):
Wazo looked from Zaphod, to the log...and then pouted. "That is a problem..." Think, think...she needed an idea! She was quiet a moment, then perked back up. "We could play I Spy? That one's fun! And there's lotsa stuff to look at out here."
Zaphod: (2:56:33 PM):
"I've not played that one before." He admitted with a weak smile. In fact, before the cubs were born he hadn't actually played since...well before he could remember.
"Mmm... maybe you can practice pouncing? There's crickets everywhere."
