Derecho had had a very enlightening discussion with his mother - and to be honest he found the entire situation somewhat infuriating. normally he would seek out Aleu and rant to her normally sympathetic ears...but as normal lately she was off with verse or Lyra and he wasn't in the mood to go stomping all over the Pack lands in search of her.

Instead the multi-colored wolf stalked off in the direction of his newest friend. She hadn't been around long and was sometimes a bit aloof, though she had been opening up bit by bit after it became clear that her terse replies were not going to chase him away. Having been regarded as a gruff wolf himself Derecho was not bothered by the splotchy wolf and her sometimes off putting manner. Quite the contrary - he found it relieving to find another who was much like he was.

And so - despite being in a snarly mood he stomped up the path towards her den which was a ways off from the others, just as she preferred it to be. Knowing that she must have seen him coming he snorted in derision and flopped down as soon as he reached her entrance. Assuming that she was within somewhere. "The sheer bug-brained nature of some wolves never ceases to amaze me" He stated in a snarky tone.

Terreis could hear the grumbling from a good distance away but she stayed inside her den until Derecho flopped down. Slowing coming out she looked down at him with a smirk. "I hope you're not talking about me." Over the last couple of weeks they had slowly been going from near enemies to something that resembled friends - though at times they did still seem distant to each other which was more her fault than anything else.

Giving her fur a shake Terreis lowered herself onto her haunches. "So what is it this time?" She asked knowing that the only reason he was here talking to her was because Derecho's sister was no where to be found. The bond between those two reminded her very much of her relationship with her own brother - but that had been lost some time ago.

Derecho huffed impatiently as she finally made an appearance, not that he'd really expected anything less. "No" He told her shortly and then because he thought his tone might sound a bit sharp tried to soften it somewhat by added "At least not this time" In a more teasing tone.

The lighter tone didn't last long however as she turned the direction of his thoughts back to the issue that had brought him here in the first place. "You must have seen the two pups arrive" He stated, knowing that Terreis although not social with most of the wolves in the pack did tend to watch the happenings from afar. He didn't bother waiting for her reply before continuer with his discourse "Well apparently their mother dumped them here because she didn't want them." The sheer heartlessness of that alone would have made him angry enough - what type of mother disregards her puppies "But that's not the worst part - she didn't want them because their male. It's ridiculous. Mother says their pack is some sort of female run warrior pack"

"Then perhaps I shall have to try harder next time." She said jokingly but then noticed the subtle changes in his face and posture - now was not the time to be joking around. Whatever was bothering him was clearly something serious, though with Derecho he did have a habit of blowing even the tiniest things out of proportion.

She had indeed seen those two pups come to the pack lands though honestly thought nothing of it at the time. She had been too far away to hear any conversation that had to do with them so she had left it be. Hearing him speak those words made her shoulders drop and her face change to something that resembled confusion though it didn't have anything to do with the pups but the pack he spoke of. Unwanted male pups form a pack of female warriors - that sounded all too familiar. But her old pack had been lost to war so long ago - how could this be. "A female run warrior pack?" She questioned quietly suddenly unable to look at him.

Derecho arched a brow at her small joke - it wasn't often that Terreis joked about, she was far to guarded for that sort of thing - though she had been opening up lately and he gave her a small smile in response to encourage such things.

Her response as he continued however was not lost on the male wolf and he shifted slightly to face her more fully when she suddenly slumped in confusion. Pausing for a few moments to study her face Derecho tried to figure out if it was in response to the pups plight or something else he had said during his tirade. This question was answered in due time when she questioned him about the warrior pack. "Yes..." he responded slowly - though for the life of him he couldn't understand why she was keying in on this bit of the conversation "Mother says they keep their males as willing slaves and their Alpha is some Pen wolf with a long name I don't recall" He told her laying quite a bit of disbelief on the word willing - he couldn't fathom the thought of a wolf wanting to be a slave.

Terreis looked over at Derecho with a bit of disbelief in her eyes. He had told her once that he wished to be an ambassador for this pack and yet couldn't remember the name of an Alpha from another pack because it was long. Standing she paced back and forth for a few moments considering her next words but it was clear that Derecho didn't like this new pack already so whatever she said likely wouldn't change his mind.

"Her name is Penthesilea." She told him blunty, quite easily saying the name of her current queen - in a matter of speaking. "And the pack you speak of is called Antianeira. Those pups come from a female named Thealia who is quite extreme in her hatred for males which makes those pups quite a surprise to me. The slaves do have a choice whether they stay to do just that or go to another pack that is more to their liking." Her fur was beginning to bristle out as she was forced to both explain and defend this pack to Derecho who would clearly not understand. "Just because a pack is different doesn't make them evil." Her eyes narrowed as she finally looked upon him again.

Well he certainly hadn't been expecting this! Either her defense of this Thealia's actions or the pack she belonged to. "Your right..." He said slowly, voice dripping with sarcasm "It's clearly not evil to nearly kill two young pups in a bizarre march to a new pack because of their gender" He nodded his head in a mock display of agreement "I can see how that tracks perfectly!" he continued - completely ignoring the way her fur was starting to bristle and purposefully lounging out on his side in an indulgent fashion that stated he didn't care a wit about her narrow eyed look.

"But indeed that was her name - I on the other hand was paying more attention to the plight of the puppies...then the pack they came from" He clarified - and she should have been too dammit! "Puppies are defenseless they ought to be watched over and protected - not dropped off like some unwanted burden!" He railed at her before taking a few calming breaths. And then another thought crossed his mind and he raised his head to look at her more closely "And just how do you know so much about this pack anyways?"
PostPosted: Tue Apr 27, 2010 1:08 pm

"And what you have preferred? Her to drown them at birth? At least they still live!" It felt odd to say those words because she knew in the past that some females had done extreme things like with male pups and no one even argued over it - it was just the way things worked there. Of course Terreis knew that Penthesilea was a bit more compassionate towards males, not so much that she would let the entire structure of the pack crumble just to give the males more respect. But every pup deserved the chance to live and had the queen not done just that by bringing them here? But no Derecho couldn't see past the fact that they were simply unwanted.

There was so much more she could have said and argued about but those words would certainly fall to deaf - if not ignorant ears. "How do I know so much about the pack?" She repeated the question slowly. Wasn't that obvious? Oh no wait she was talking to thick skulled Derecho so she would clearly need to spell it out to him. "I was born and raised there. Trained in their ways, protected them, loved them." Though she knew she would need to give a better explanation than that. "But - the pack fell apart many months ago to infighting because there was not a blood heir. The previous queen died in the fighting and Penthesilea took that role on - whether through a challenge or caste I do not know for I had left before that happened. I traveled with my mother, sisters and brother for some time but eventually had to leave my brother behind." This was where she had to stop for a moment - only because the pain of losing her brother was still fresh to her though it had been months. Lowering her head for a moment Terreis took a deep breath only to keep her body relaxed and her voice level.

"point" He had to admit in a gruff voice. "They will certainly live better lives here - if they get over problems. Mother says they are very traumatized" He told her in a surly tone - Derecho disliked seeing anything suffer. He was a protector at heart despite his sometimes harsh seeming nature. "But that doesn't make it right - and I won't condone that sort of treatment...from any pack. Ally or not" He concluded firmly.

He had to blink at her for a few moments before the full force o what she'd said registered. When it did he came swiftly to his feet in a flurry of motion and stared at her. "You lived in this pack..and your defending the ideals that lead to murdering puppies?!?" He asked her in astonishment. It was a hard thing to get his head around but he had to conclude she must be just as cruel as the pack she had come from by her next words "I see...to big to drown was he?" He stated in a scathing tone in far to much of a tizzy now to notice the pain on her face - though he would recall it later.

She would have said that she didn't agree with the pups poor treatment in the pack and that she thought that drowning pups because of their gender was wrong but his last snarky little remark about her brother being too large to drown sent her into a fury she had not felt since she had fought for her own life in the war. Terreis closed the gap between herself and Derecho in lightening speed and had it not been for that one shred of calmness in her likely would have tried to rip his throat out.

Instead she pushed her face towards his, baring her teeth and snarl crossing her maw. "Don't you ever think I would mistreat my brother in such a way." Her eyes were a mix of extreme anger and sadness. "I would rather have died than to leave him alone but I was forced to leave him!" A rumble echoed from her throat for a moment before she spoke again. "I have spent the last few months looking for him day and night! And every day I have spend here with you and your perfect little pack is a day I have wasted not looking for him!" In truth she had reached the point before arriving here of giving up on finding Iosef only because of how long it had been but now she felt more than determined to find him even if it took her an eternity to do so.

Derecho's ears turned back and his own lips lifted in a snarl as she rushed towards him, although she was older and grew up in a warrior society Derecho possessed more then enough personal grit to stand his ground. He hadn't spent time learning from Merrill for no reason and somewhere in the back of his mind he was pretty sure the rush was a bluff.

So when she pushed her face into his Derecho took a half step forward and pushed back. he was the son of two alpha's..and far more dominant then most of the packs wolves. He wasn't about to let some lone female push him around - past experience or not. "Forced? Truly..or too brainwashed into thinking males are useless to put your entire heart into keeping him around?" He didn't know the whole story of course but it was a fair assumption to make - nothing, absolutely nothing could make him ever leave Aleu behind. "But if being here is so damned terrible - maybe you should high tail it back to the north. You never know maybe someone there took pity on your abandoned sibling the way Penthesilea took pity on the pups...best hope it wasn't Thealia or another of the heartless brutes" He snarled at her.

So he could do more than just talk, she thought as he pushed his head against hers. It didn't matter, Terreis was far too angry to care whether he could fight or was merely bluffing. Words were not used on the battlefield, but claws, teeth and wits were. And Terreis was pretty sure she was the more experienced fighter of the two. "You know nothing about my life! Do not think that I am brainwashed into thinking this way or that."

And then in an odd change of events Terreis backed down, pulling away from Derecho smoothly. What was the point of fighting a worthless male like him anyways? There would be no honor gained as he wasn't even a worthless slave in her old pack. "You're damned right I should go back north." She snapped at her and then turned around beginning to walk off, only she stopped after a couple feet. "You know I thought perhaps I could make a life here, forget all my past mistakes and start fresh. But clearly with wolves like you around that sort of thing will never happen." Giving her head a shake she began to walk off again. "Forget it, I'm clearly wasting my time with you."

"Well maybe if you weren't so closed off about everything!" He snarled at her as she backed off, though he didn't look smug or victorious in that statement despite the fact that she'd been the one to back down. He hadn't wanted to fight her from the beginning and he certainly felt no victory in her walking away...though of course he couldn't let that show.

And he certainly couldn't let her guilt him into running after her "You're not the the only one who's been wasting their time!" He yelled at her as she walked off. "Go on then...run off and live with the feminist warriors so blinded by old values that they ignore or subjugate what could be worthwhile partners!' He continued - which was a far more eloquent speech then Derecho was normally capable of. He was a smart wolf - he just didn't always bother showing it and then of course he had to add a less classy remark to the end "And drown puppies!"

She didn't bother to look back as he yelled at her but instead kept on walking, head held high. Now she knew for certain that her only place in life was in Antianeira and with Penthesilea running the pack it would be a great place to live - even if she had to do so without her brother. In fact she would have not said anything else and just left it at that but his last comment made her say one final thing.

"That's why we have a river close to our dens after all - to drown puppies in." That of course was not true but it would certainly get under Derecho's skin, which is just what she was hoping for. With a flick of her tail Terreis sped up into a fast lope that she would be able to maintain for hours without getting tired.

Derecho watched her leave with a mixture of sorrow and anger etched on his face - females! Especially the females from that Northern Pack apparently! Snorting at her last remark he turned about and stalked back down the hill to chew over the confrontation that had just taken place - he could only hope that none of the other pack members had noticed it. Derecho didn't really want to talk about it at the moment.

By the time he reached the bottom of the path Derecho had managed to convince himself that her leaving had been for the bes - how could he ever be true friends with someone so skewed about males/ He couldn't - yes it was better that she just go now...but something in the back of his mind kept nagging at him and despite his determination to remain angry at her his tail sagged just a little as he slipped into the forest.
