Who: Lucia, Zeke, Anastacia
When: Around 6 p.m.
Where: A small diner in Gambino
Weather: Pretty cool, but clear night

Her fingernails clinked against the glass with a soft tink as she tapped it nervously. In a corner booth, the frei’s eyes were flicking from the glass to the door to her phone back to the glass. When would he be here? She was early – she had actually set an alarm to get up. It was set for 4:30 p.m., but still, the effort was there. She had been getting up at 5 or 6 at night, so 4:30 was early. But there was 15 minutes until 6 p.m. They were going to meet here.

It had only been a few days ago that she had approached Alex about it. ”Alex. Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if I could maybe have Zeke’s phone number? I keep dragging Zul around with me, but I’d like to make plans with other people and let him have some space.” She had forced a small smile, though the thought of going out without the protection of Zul – who could pull out Brians any time she needed him – was terrifying.

But she knew how independent she had been. Though she was not interested in that anymore, she didn’t want to be a burden to Zul or anyone. She expected surprise, anger, chastisement. Not laughter. She laughed. She waited until Lucia had her cell ready and she gave her the number. And it was fine. There had been some restrictions, but with a few sentences it seemed like her days of being required to have Zul by her side were gone. And all it took was 4 weeks of being bottled up.

A genuine smile had lit up Lucia’s face briefly at the permission she got so readily, but then the reality of it all hit her. She had called Zeke, fumbled about meeting him – and his new raevan! she learned – some evening. He didn’t have work this week so he had every night free.

Getting ready for the date, Lucia had spent a lot of time on her looks. Though she wasn’t really into it the same way she had been, she still didn’t want to look like crap in front of Zeke and the new raevan. Her makeup was typical. Her hair was up like normal. The spirit behind it, however, wasn’t there. What had taken her two minutes to perfect seemed to take hours.

The condensation was welling on the side of the glass as the cold ice water was making the clear cup sweat. She watched as a bead of water slid down the side and pooled on the table. She was nervous about being around Zeke again. And even more uneasy about being around another raevan, but she wouldn’t ask him to leave a newborn raevan at home. If she really needed to, she would leave, Lucia decided.

The frei had flown from Alex's house. The entire trip to the restaurant, she had been skitishly looking over her shoulder. She even went a longer way and back tracked in various places. Just in case. Being on her own wasn't something she was comfortable with yet.

The call had been a surprise, but a pleasant one at that and Zeke was all too happy to take up Lucia's offer up of meeting the kitten Frei at a diner in her present neck of the woods. The Kitten's voice at the other end of the line had been surprised when he spoke of bringing Anastacia along, but he had expected it - it had only been a few days since he had brought the spider femme home with him. Given he was free the entire week and really wanted to see how Lucia was healing up he had been all too happy to set the meeting up for today. And, thus, Zeke and Anastacia had made their way to Gambino.

The newborn hadn't known what to make of it.

She had been "sitting" with Zeke on his futon, watching a movie that had human women in fancy gowns gliding around an elaborately large room, each with a man who was just as fancifully dressed but in clothing suited for them instead. The cellphone on the table had rung, startling the female who had been quite into the glitz and glamor enough that she had accidentally smacked her caretaker in the face with one of her large wings as they expanded outward so suddenly. Zeke had made the noise go away as he rubbed the side of his face that was now sporting a blossoming, elongated red mark, but Anastacia still looking at the phone with contempt once he set it back down (and this time on vibrate).

"Anya," he had said then, "tomorrow I'm taking you out to Gambino again." She had given her guardian a look as though she was expecting the Lab and that she wasn't thrilled about going to the boring building again, to which the young human had laughed. "Not the Lab. We're gonna go see an acquaintance of mine. I think you two might get along; she's a Raevan like you and a girl too."

Anastacia had only met two Raevans so far - both males - so meeting another that was a female like herself to boot intrigued the femme. Though she still made Zeke wait ten minutes at the door as she made sure her hair was just so in her chosen mirror, soon the two were off and now they were just pulling into the diner's parking lot. This time was more to the Spider's liking and she was wide awake, peering out of the Aston's backseat window as Zeke parked and turned the automobile off. The car Zeke had eased his in next to wasn't nearly as luxurious or even clean and Anya's nose crinkled in distaste of the red vehicle. The expression didn't last very long as soon Zeke's blue and yellow splashed tank top was blocking her view and the door was opened to let her out.

"C'mon Anya, Lucia's waiting." He noted that her lavender eyes took on a twinge of pleasure as she saw he had done like a man in the movie had when the horse drawn carriage came to a stop in front of that mansion. Zeke, however, didn't realize it was because of that rather than going to meet the Kitten and merely beamed all the while as Anastacia unbuckled herself and floated out, carrying herself high in her adapted 5'8" height. She floated just behind her guardian's shoulder, head turning this way and that to observe what she could around her as the man lead her toward the diner and up the sidewalk to the door. Even so far from the shore salty ocean water was in the air but thanks to being so far it mixed with pollutants from cars and other mechanical things. It wasn't pleasant but it also wasn't altogether unpleasant either, but the spider femme didn't have time to make a decision on either end as Zeke came to a sudden stop and Anastacia bumped into his back.

"You okay?" The man with the dual colored hair said as he turned to see his ward floating back from him, looking him up and down as though sizing him up at his almost-sudden appearance in that exact spot. Hadn't he seen her looking around at the blur that was the street they had been traveling on?

"...Yes." Anastacia gave her spider-webbed wings a shake before she took up that high-held posture again, trying to work off that she hadn't just done that in case anyone besides Zeke had seen. The veterinarian chuckled, earning the back of his head a slow frown, but only after he had opened the glass door did he look at his Raevan again.

"After you Anastacia." His right hand swept before him into the diner and - recalling the movie again - the spider Frei floated in before her guardian. The scent of grease and frying things overtook her sense of smell, hitting her in the face like a rogue wave. Like the air outside it wasn't truly pleasant - just there so suddenly - but the copious amounts of heat spilling out from behind the blue countertop before her eased any negative emotions before they began to arise. Unlike the Lab, which was cool (but not agitatingly so) for reasons yet unknown to her, this place was warm - bordering hot - and she could quickly get used to that. The Frei floated there, soaking up the warmth that made the outdoors seem bitter. She was fully ignoring the fact her guardian had stepped up next to her and was looking around until he spotted who they had come to meet and took his charge's hand to lead her in that direction.

"Lucia!" Zeke said as he waved with his other hand, but immediately looked back as Anastacia wrenched her hand free of his own, pout on her lips and balefully stern 'don't do that again' look in her eyes that made Zeke's brows raise in mild surprise.

"No touch."

The Kitten’s ears twitched every time the door opened, whether someone was coming in or leaving, or going out to the game area to play Pac-man. Her fingernails absentmindedly clinked against the glass more as she idled waiting for her date to arrive. The menu in front of her did not interest her – she couldn’t do more than drink small sips of liquids anyway before she was sick to her…esophagus?

The door was pulled open. From the outside this time, she noted. That was a good sign, she thought. In floated a woman with long lavender hair, pale skin, black eyes on her forehead and wings with spider webs for the wing membrane.

The frei looked away, thinking she was out of luck again, but then her eyes flicked back. That was a raevan, she realized. She had been looking for the purple and green hair. Instead she first saw Zeke’s raevan. Lucia didn’t want to judge, she needed all of the friends she could get at the moment. Or kind of. The kitten was torn. She wanted friends. She didn’t want to kill them. And she couldn’t trust herself not to. But for now, she thought, clearing her head, she would be polite, despite the almost cold look of the young raevan’s appearance. Maybe she was just connecting the soft purple with the iciness of Roux.

A call of her name drew her out of her own thoughts. She recognized the voice, though it seemed exceedingly less weary and pitying when he spoke this time. A smile spread across her face as she looked at Zeke and his excited wave. Keeping her elbow on the table, the frei lifted her forearm to waggle her fingers back at him and then his attention was away from her.

Lucia let out a slightly annoyed breath. But she was a baby, the Kitten reasoned. Of course she needed a lot of attention. Still, Lucia thought, her violet eyes settling on the human-raevan pair, the least Ana could do was be nice for the date.

The kitten waited patiently until the pair had moved towards her before smiling sweetly, if not a little forced. ”Hello Anastacia, Zeke.” Her eyes rested on the green and purple-haired man before drifting back to her glass of water.

That stern 'no touch' graced Zeke's ears and made the man blink in surprise, staring at his young ward with nothing but confusion. Was she that against touching - or that protective of her personal space - that he couldn't even take her hand for a moment? She was looking at him with that hard, intelligent gaze of hers and instead of becoming uncomfortable like other humans, he sighed. All right, no touch. Instead, he gave a wane little smile at the Spider and raised his hand in a 'come this way' gesture to her before pointing out the older female across the diner. When Anastacia's head turned and Zeke assumed he saw the Kitten, he strode off toward Lucia.

"Hey Lucia," Zeke gave the leathered and lacy Raevan a beam as she looked at him with that smile. He couldn't tell it was forced as he was much too wrapped around the fact the Raevan seated at the table looked much, much better than when they first met. He could remember where all those cuts and scrapes had been, yet her skin was devoid of all of those angry red lines. Maybe a scar line here or there, but too faint to see even with being this close. Zeke's smile quirked with a bit of pride as Lucia addressed Anastacia by name before his own, and he turned to the Frei that had tagged along behind him and was looking at Lucia from his side. "Anya, this is Lucia, and Lucia, this is my Anya."

Unlike her guardian, there was no jovial or good natured expression upon the newborn's face, but rather that straight, flat neutrality. Her eyes ticked over what she could see of the older Frei and was quickly likening the Kitten's appearance to her own. Black - lots of it - with lace-fringed arm warmers (though her own were merely cuffs) and purple eyes. In addition, this Lucia also had a band around her neck, but unlike Anastacia's chitinous gorget, this one was christened with an over-sized, almost gaudy bell and more lace. Gaudy, but appealing in some manner to her all the same. She didn't make a vocal comment on this, though when Zeke made the introduction, she gave her reply as a proper lady should.

"Hello."

"Here, take a seat Anya." He was pleased the Frei graced the older female with a greeting, and showed it with a smile directed at her, but they couldn't both just stand here all evening. Lucia had asked him to come out here for a reason after all. Zeke held his arm out and gestured to the booth seat, smiling all the more as his Frei gave a haughty shake of her wings and floated in. The vet held back a laugh as she attempted and struggled to seat herself right - the space between the bench and the table was quite small for her overly large, cumbersome, and nearly Sigel-sized wings. Anastacia's right wing even dragged across the pleather at one point and cut it right open, but soon enough after that the Frei managed to collapse both spindly wings tight against her back (and to her displeasure) but was seated all the same in the booth. Immediately she took a dislike to this arrangement and it showed with a crease between her shapely brows.

Once he was sure she was seated and not about to snap her wings out to squirm around some more, Zeke took the spot next to his ward and didn't mind that Anastacia deftly moved closer to the wall - shifting uncomfortably and scowling with her eyes all the while at the wall, him, and the immediate area as a whole. Personal space and whatnot - he could dig it - and knew there wasn't much there for her in the booth. He'd give her what he could all the same and kept to sitting close to the edge, giving another look to Anya before he looked at the Kitten once more. As he did so, Zeke's left hand touched over the cut in the seat, hoping it would magically seal with a stroke or two but knowing it wouldn't be so. At least it wasn't a large or long scratch by what he could feel, and it wasn't like the seating wasn't five star upscale anyway. Plus it was an accident.

"You look great Lucia," he complimented, smile on firm but gentle toward the Kitten as he started the meeting off. "How have you been?"

The feline ears were up, but one was slowly cocking slightly to the side. Zeke was happily appraising her, and it seems like it was a positive appraisal. She watched the movement of his eyes closely, trying to see if he noticed any of the fading marks on her skin. If anyone would know where it had been torn, it would be him. But most of her marks were disappearing nicely with the scar remover Alex had gotten her.

"Anya," she repeated, liking the nickname, though she wasn't sure how well the happy flighty nickname fitted the young frei. Alex had told her that her essence was the virus, but it was of no concern. What mattered more was that the frei make friends. At another time, Lucia would have been very willing, but now she was a little uneasy. Still, she addressed the strange raevan, continuing: "You can call me Lu, or Loush." Her violet eyes watched the Spider's demeanor. She could tell they were similar in style, though her own was more fun, but their attitudes. Well maybe now they were a bit more similar.

With the polite hello, the Kitten smiled politely in return. She watched, her finger tips pressed against the wet outside of her glass, as Anya struggled to seat herself. She was sympathetic to the plight, and her eyes scanned out over the diner. As Zeke seated himself, she watched, noting how uncomfortable and disgruntled the frei looked. "Would you want to switch tables?" she asked the girl. "We could take one of those." She gestured to the tables more towards the middle of the place. The square tables had 4 chairs each, one on each side, and nothing behind them. It would give the Spider more room to spread out.

Lucia smiled slightly at Zeke's compliment. She knew that wasn't true. Maybe in comparison to when he first met her. Really, she thought she looked like crap. Tired and worn. How she felt. Waking up at 4:30 in the afternoon was just too early.

"Thanks," she replied politely. "I'm okay. This is my first time out on my own." She shrugged slightly. Whatever it was it was, she decided. "How are you?"

The spider's head came to a stop and all of her eyes rested on the Kitten when that nickname Zeke had given her was spoken. She was being directed to, so it was only right, even if she wasn't going to say a thing. What the Kitten had said was something the Spider couldn't reply to with both her young age and limited vocabulary, so she merely nodded at the names given to her for her own use. She preferred the former to the latter, and would use 'Lu' if she ever needed to address the older Frei. Anastacia didn't figure now of course, but then the white-eared Frei before her pointed something out and questioned her. She responded by leaning forward - her guardian made a better door than a window - and turning to see. Most of the diner was a blur, but the closest table and chairs wasn't and Anya likened them to the set at home. She could sit in those no problem.

"I think that'd be a better opt--"

"Yes."

His ward's reply and cut off of his own words made Zeke turn to face her again. He had followed Lucia's line of sight to the pull out chairs and table, but once his ward spoke up he promptly turned right around with his pierced brows slightly raised. Well now! That was different, but not at all unwelcome. He beamed at the Frei - expecting this to be progress already - then shifted and climbed out of his section of the booth, waiting for the two females first.

"Your first time?" He questioned with a tone just as polite as Lucia's had been when she answered him. He figured she must've been spending quite a lot of time with Zul and Alex in these past few months. Still, out and about on her own was a good sign. "Well I'm honored you asked to see me on your first time out." And he gave her a winning smile. "I've been well - excited mostly - as Anya here just came home a few days ago."

The Frei looked up as her name was mentioned again but instead of lingering on her guardian her attention went to vacating the booth again. Her mind was a whirl of ideas on how to do it but only a few seemed plausible without injury or damage to herself. And others. But mostly herself. One idea that came to mind seemed to work the best, so the Frei put that into motion. She leaned forward into the table again, arching her partial back as much as she could in order to free those long wings entirely. When she felt they were she stretched them out and up behind her to their fullest extent. The right one rested on the wooden top of the seat while the left rested its point on the table and once she had some semblance of steadiness, Anastacia pushed with her hands and lifted with her wings, hovering over the table with her strength alone. Carefully then she moved each wing around until each pinion was in front of her (though still on the place they had been put) and "walked" the length of the booth and table to the opening. It appeared awkward - especially from the front - but it did the trick and soon the Frei swung herself out of the too-small space and floated before it instead. Light applause greeted her.

"Nicely done, Anya," Zeke said, standing straight after nearly being whacked in the head with his charge's right leg-wing but ducking just in time. He was smiling with amusement despite the near-incident and even though it was sort of a silly looking display from his angle and experience of booths Anya took it as genuine praise. It had done the trick hadn't it? "Maybe you can be an acrobat when you get older."

Anastacia didn't know what an 'acrobat' was, but the praise for her spur of the moment idea was enough for her. She righted her wings with careful positioning and waited for Zeke and his company to lead the way. One of them would be pulling out a chair for her.

Lucia smiled sadly at the Spider. She was happy to have helped. Before Anya got up, the frei flew upward and floated out of the booth. Her wings were much smaller than the other raevans, so moving around was easier for her. "Well I wanted to see you again," she said softly, a small smile resting on her lips. Purple and green. So hot. She hadn't had the time to really appreciate his hair's color scheme when she met him, but now she did. And that smile.

As Anya did something - Lucia didn't know what she did but it seemed unnecessary - to maneuver her way out of the booth, the Kitten grabbed her water and took a seat at the closest table. The waitress came over, a worried look on her face, as she saw the display that the two new customers were making.
"Two more waters?" The frei nodded at her as she placed the menus down on their new table, and went off to get the water.

Breathing in and out slowly, Lucia knew her nerves were overacting. It was okay. There was no Brian. There would be no more Brian. She didn't hurt Zeke last time she saw him. She wouldn't hurt him or Anya now. Taking a deep breath, she let it out slowly and then didn't take in another one until Anya had managed to get out of the booth.

"It sucks when being you makes it a pain in the a** to do things. They should have bigger booths." She smiled knowingly at the young frei. It was like pants. And skirts. They should make more that half-torsos could wear.

"You're sweet, Lucia." Zeke couldn't help but feel humbled that the Kitten wanted to see him again. He had been and still was concerned for her well being after meeting her for the first time in the condition she was in. Knowing that she was staying with Alex and Zul for the time being had relieved some of his worries for her, but he had remained curious to Lucia's wellbeing and progress all this time. Not even Anya's birth had deterred that fact. "I wanted to see you again too. I was worried about you after that night, though I know you're in good hands with Alex and Zul."

When the trio arrived at the table, the raver did the gentlemanly thing (and the thing Anya silently wanted him to do as well) and pulled out the chair for his Raevan. He would have done the same for Lucia, but the Kitten had taken her seat well enough on her own without his mannerisms. When his ward sat down, he joined her, once again sitting in the seat next to her. This time, however, he relaxed against the pleather back of the chair. The curve of the seat was much better than that of the booth and he took to being at ease quickly. He had nothing to fear from Lucia and he wanted to show her she could relax and be herself around him and his Raevan too. Oh yes, he had heard that sigh.

The spider Frei looked between the two and took in their words with apathy. What they were discussing - or going to anyway - was beyond her. She was content to sit in peace; while they were talking, they wouldn't be addressing her and that was a.okay with her, prior compliment or not. There wasn't much to see in the diner even with her limited range of sight but that wasn't a bother either. She could keep herself entertained well enough. Zeke pulling out her seat for her made her give her wings as much a ruffle as she could with their lack of feathers or fleshy lining and now that she was seated with her guardian to her left she was ready to turn her interests to the place mat instead. That didn't readily happen however.

"It sucks when being you makes it a pain in the a** to do things. They should have bigger booths."

Anastacia cocked her head as Lucia addressed her outright. All six of her eyes focused on the cat Frei as she took in both her words and her oddly similar appearance. She didn't rightly know how to respond. The way the words were spoken were strange to her hidden, tapered ears. It sucks to be herself? What did 'sucks' mean? Only a faint crease between her lavender eyes showed her uncertainty to what was being spoken to her. She did agree that those booths should be bigger, but that was second in line to what she was trying to work out.

"She's still young," Zeke said after a few moments of nothing from his charge, "it'll take some time for her to adapt to things, but I know she'll figure everything out eventually. Trial and error and all that." And it was here he grinned, at Lucia instead of Anastacia, "I'm sure you were much the same way when you were first born!"

Lucia's eyes had a fire lit behind them when he professed wanting to see her again too. The frei grinned in silly contentment. "Alex and Zul, especially, are great. He takes good care of me. Though I'm trying to -- ya know -- give him some space." She smiled, thinking about their nights on the shore, looking over the waters from the cliff, floating around town. She had been monopolizing his evenings, nights, mornings. But this was about learning to be on her own again. Needless to say, though she felt safe because Zeke was around, the frei was nervous.

Lucia grinned apologetically. Small words. That's right. Though Lucia had been able to adapt to languages fairly easily, most frei were not as lucky. "Actually, I picked up speaking and learning pretty well. When I was born Yuu was out of town and clueless." She smiled slightly at the poke before realizing she had almost killed Yuurei recently and the smile faded. "I lived with Chloe at first. I don't really know why, but speaking and learning never really came as a barrier. I guess I was really good at learning by following what others did." She shrugged, not really knowing that her communication-based essence had something to do with her quick ability to get information.

The look of confusion that had crossed Anastacia's face, however, made the frei stop replying to Zeke and turn her attention to the spider-frei. "What I mean is, it's hard when things are not made so everyone can use them. Like the booths. Or skirts." She smiled at Zeke. "I really wanna be able to wear skirts." It was kind of crazy, thinking about it. The last time she had seen Zeke he had been telling her the lab wouldn't kill her. That he wouldn't kill her. And now, she was talking about how she wanted to wear skirts.

At least she hadn't met him while still possessed.

Seeing Lucia smile like that eased Zeke more. He didn't know the Frei past that night and this meeting, but seeing a smile - even a small one - assured him she was going back to her old self. Alex and Zul had likely been a great help to her, and that made Zeke just that much happier and think that much kindlier to his sister and her Raevan. However, when Lucia spoke of wanting to give the Demon some space, he nodded. He knew what she meant by that, he had had the same mindset on several occasions in the past.

"I know what you mean, but I'm sure Zul's happy to be there for you Lucia. He's a good guy like that." He smiled again at the cat Frei. "But enough about them for now. You invited me out here to see you, so let's go on about whatever you want to talk about." He saw Alex and Zul often enough to know how those two were doing anyway and even though Lucia said she was fine, he still wanted to know all the more about her. She was a nice Frei, he could see that already, but what else was there to the pretty kitten? It seemed Anya was a good way to get the ball rolling.

As Lucia mentioned picking up speaking and learning easily enough Zeke looked toward his own Raevan, the female still seeming to try and figure out what Lucia was going on about even though the vet had easily dismissed her having to. He knew Anya was smart as well - the girl had figured things out easily enough when he brought her home and had even picked up more than a few words over the course of a couple days. So far though she wasn't coming off as much of a conversationalist, but in time perhaps she would open up more. Everyone was different after all, and he knew that better than anyone.

"Even if you were just mimicking what others did, I'm still gonna say you're a smart girl Lucia."

Anastacia had remained just as quiet as the two talked and like Zeke had assumed she was still working out just what the older Frei's words had meant. 'Sucks' in particular, simply because it sounded so odd, but when Lucia addressed her again the spider queen's thoughts came to a halt and instead she listened to what the Raevan had to say. 'It's hard when things are made so not everyone could use them'. There were more things like those booths that were so troublesome to get out of? Again the crease appeared and with it Anya frowned ever so slightly. She didn't like the sound of that. Though Zeke had praised her for getting out of the booth by herself, it was still a pain. But before she could make any motion to give a physical reply, Lucia had turned back to the raver. Anastacia seemed a bit confused, but in the end it was fine by her. Like she already knew, she could in fact keep herself occupied while the two talked.

"Skirts, huh?" Zeke's grin returned quickly as he had been sitting in silence while Lucia addressed Anya. Like the Kitten, he also realized that the last time they had met he had been reassuring her while she was in a panicked state and now they were going to chat about skirts. Unlike Lucia however, he didn't see it as crazy. Instead, he saw it as just another good sign that she was getting back to being herself, no matter how she was when she was her old self. "'M not much of a skirt-wearer myself, but I'm sure you'd look very pretty in one." His grin stretched and he winked at the Frei. If he could get her laughing, he'd consider the 'to see how she was' part of this meeting a success right then.

Lucia nodded slowly. She knew Zul would be with her right now if she had asked. But it wouldn’t help her to be so dependant on him. And it wasn’t right to make him do everything with her. Before – well – everything went on, she was independent herself. So Zul must have been too. She sighed softly, eyes downcast on the glass of water as she again fingered at the condensation.

Lucia shrugged at the “smart girl” comment. She could pick up information and process it. Did that make her smart? Well yeah. But more than anyone else? Who knew. And it didn’t really matter anyways. I mean she had killed people. She had been possessed. That wasn’t very smart. At the idea, her eyes glanced wearily around, zipping to the windows, the door, Anya, the counter. She chewed on her lower lip slightly, nerves showing. Closing her eyes, Lucia took a deep breath and let it out. Relax. Zul said he was gone.

Lucia flashed a tight lipped smile when Zeke mentioned he didn’t wear skirts. The idea was silly. But she had just had a panic attack, so the silliness and even the compliment didn’t dawn on her right away. Letting out another slow breath, the Kitten nodded. ”I think I’d look good. And I think they’d be fun to wear. But once I’m able I’m sure I’ll be saying I want some silky smooth legs to show off while wearing one.”

She stared down at her finger nails. ”I think people always want more than they have. Even if they have everything they could want it always seems like there’s something more. Something better.” She didn’t really know what was making her philosophical tonight. But she let out a slow sigh as a bit of condensation built up so much that it turned into a water droplet and rolled down the side of her glass into the slowly forming puddle.

Zeke had to frown just a little when Lucia shrugged off his compliment toward her intelligence. Watching her before him, he had to wonder what she was thinking. Perhaps she was just being modest, but her body language didn't seem to give off that vibe to him, especially when she started to glance everywhere and yet nowhere in particular. Still, when she looked back at him that frown was gone and in its place was that same old Zeke-brand smile. Concern still lingered, but he tried to not make it too apparent, lest he make the Kitten uncomfortable or whatnot.

"A pretty girl like you could wear whatever she wanted and look good." He gave the Frei a wink as he spoke, chuckling all the while. He did mean it. Despite being attracted to men, he could still point out a nice looking woman and dole out the compliments and flirtations like any man, though his flirting was more playful and harmless than anything else. Lucia was no exception and he did firmly believe what he said. Raevans were attractive beings, and even if the Kitten Frei wanted to wear an over-sized handkerchief for a top he was certain she could make it work swimmingly. "Hey, it's not a bad thing to want." He noticed she didn't laugh or smile to his joke or the first compliment, but didn't say a word about it. "You'll get those legs in time too..."

He trailed off as Lucia looked down at her hands and the vet's brows raised. He couldn't see her eyes or her expression well but reached over the table and touched her shoulder. What brought that about, he didn't know, but he was trying to think of something to say to it.

"Like I said, it's not bad to want. Everyone wants; it's part of being alive, and the same can be said of wanting more." He paused, thinking what he said over and trying to think his next words over carefully. "I guess it sort of depends on what someone wants more for. For themselves, for their families, for the world. You can want more for yourself without being selfish too, you know, and I don't think it's selfish of you to want to grow up. Even if it's just so you can show off some nice legs in a skirt."

He didn't know if he hit the nail on the head with that or was way off in response, but he hoped for the best. Philosophy wasn't his strongest suit, especially when it was pulled out of the blue like it just was. Still, he wanted to make Lucia feel better and he'd run through all the philosophical gauntlets if that would make her better. Zeke squeezed her shoulder gently.

"Speaking of skirts...If you ever want to, I'd be happy to drive you around and take you shopping for some. I'm not the sort who can tell you a certain color or whatever makes you look a certain way..." Zeke was hardly fashion conscious and some would say he could barely dress himself! "But I do have a car and am all for showing a lady such as yourself a good time out. What do you say?"

Anya would have to come along for the ride unless this potential date was set rather far into the future when he was comfortable letting the Frei do as she pleased in terms of staying home alone, but regardless of when or where or who was with them, he'd be happy to play chauffeur and hold onto whatever Lucia picked out for herself. Heck, if it happened to turn out a certain way, he'd be just as happy to spot the Kitten a few dollars on a purchase if she ran short. Perhaps he'd also take her out to lunch, but he knew he shouldn't get ahead of himself just yet. Speaking of Anya, Zeke looked over at his ward and gave the muted Frei a smile. The look he got in return was one of boredom and perhaps a little confusion, but otherwise the newborn wasn't giving anything away. She was fine despite the dullness of whatever it was her man and his furry-eared companion were discussing and was keeping herself occupied by looking at the patrons when not studying the writing on the place mat beneath her arms. She needn't be supervised.

As his warm hand brushed her shoulder, she jumped slightly, caught unawares at his movement. Normally nothing escaped her radar like that. But before he could move it she nuzzled her cheekbone over her cheek to the jaunt of her jawbone against his hand, snuggling into his slight embrace. A warmth, for her, almost radiated from his hand and soothed her jumpy body. From the simple touch, her shoulders began to relax slightly. Her neck muscles lessened their tension, and a warm look almost returned to her eyes nearly shadowing out the nervous jumpy one.

His response to her philosophizing wasn’t what she expected. It was, but it wasn’t – well not what she meant. Maybe the tension went mostly from her body to her mind. She shook her head and waited for him to continue.

A slight smile spread on her red lips as he mentioned shopping with her. That would be amazing. ”I’d like that very much,” she said softly, almost in a whisper as her eyes looked at him with something akin to a sense of awe. He didn’t have to be nice to her – shouldn’t be nice to her for what she did, but he was. And he wasn’t afraid of her. And Anya wasn’t afraid of her, she noted, her eyes flicking to the younger frei as Zeke’s did.

Her mind drifted back to his philosophy. What did she want? Well she wanted things for herself, certainly. But didn’t she always try to help others too? Wasn’t that partly what caused this mess? The world was too big a scope for her to think about at the moment. But herself and others—she did have desires for that. A sigh slipped between her pouty lips and she softly clinked her fingernails against the glass.

Switching the attention away from herself, she looked at the spider. ”So what do you like to do, Anya?”

Zeke hadn't expected Lucia to lean against his hand like that, but even still, it was not an unwelcome surprise. It seemed to him that she trusted him enough to do such a thing, and the fact her eyes held that vividity when she looked back up again made him happy. She was definitely going to be okay from his point of view.

The vet left his hand on her shoulder for a few moments longer before resting it back on the table again, just in time for Lucia to give her response to his suggestion. With her agreement his own eyes lit up and his smile only grew. Wonderful!

"All right then. I'll be sure to give you my cellphone number at some point; but whenever you want me to take you, I'll be happy to." Zeke was the sort of man who would drop whatever he was doing at the drop of a hat when called upon and that definitely extended toward the Kitten. Whenever she wanted, where ever she wanted, all she had to do was call him up and ask.

With that agreement came another friendly pat - this time to the Frei's hand. Unlike the shoulder touch, Zeke didn't linger, but his delight at the agreement and promise to take her out on the town was there all the same. When Lucia turned her attention to Anastacia, Zeke did as well, watching his ward with mild amusement and some hope as she was questioned.

However, the question was not something the newborn could easily answer. At a few days old, she hadn't discovered anything that garnered her interests and had spent her first few days alive getting used to Zeke's apartment, discovering food, and meeting several different people at different times. She had watched a little TV with the vet, but there was nothing about the moving pictures he watched that had yet to grip her either. Because of this, the best she could do for a reply was look at the older Frei, shake her head, and roll her shoulders forward in a shrug.

"I don't know."

Her guardian chuckled.

"She hasn't really had much time to discover things she likes to do yet. She's still learning, I'm still learning..." He trailed off as his ward looked at him and gave him a small frown. Given how Lucia had stated the question, it was clear that Anya's lack of anything other than 'I don't know' wasn't spot on. That wasn't right, especially not to the spider queen herself, and she had to turn her displeasure and curiosity about that on the man who was the one tending to her.

Although the expression she wore was not a happy one, the vet still had to chuckle and throw a wink his ward's way. They had been busy these past few days, but he was already keen to take his Frei out and show her things that might spark off an interest.

"You'll find something, Anya, don't worry. I'm already planning on taking you out tomorrow so we can find something you might like or like to do."

Lucia leaned her head back and took a deep breath. "I think I have your number from Alex." The frei blinked a few times taking breaths to steady herself. Suddenly, being away from Alex and Zul, being away from the place she knew as their home, and being by herself for all intents and purposes was just overwhelming.

When Anya professed, not confusion, but maybe indifference, Zeke's comforting dialogue with the young frei brought to her mind the stark contrast between Zeke and Yuurei. And the difference between Zeke now -- alive, caring for his frei, whole -- and Yuurei, who, she assumed, was still being taken care of wherever it was that she went.

Her breathing shallowed out slightly as she almost soundlessly began breathing quickly through her nose. This hyperventilating wouldn't make her pass out, but her anxiety was plain to see as panic was beginning to show in her face.

She shouldn't be out. She could hurt someone.

She needed. Lucia desperately needed to be back. To sit on the cliff overlooking the water. Maybe float down to it. What was she thinking going to a diner? There were too many people here. Too much going on.

The kitten's eyes flicked around rapidly, looking for danger and whom she might be drawn to hurt next. Her patterns in the past had been random until she began attacking her friends.

Lucia closed her eyes tightly, blocking out the sound, the sights, the smells of everything around her. As her breathing slowed slightly, her hand shook slightly and she jerked them back.

Suddenly, there was glass and ice on the floor, and the kitten was drenched in water. Her eyes opened wide and she flew up and back quickly. Her eyes flicked from Anya to the floor to Zeke. They were wide with panic. "I-I've gotta go," she seemed to scream, though her voice was barely a whisper. She grabbed a five dollar bill from her purse, and tossed it on the table. "S-sorry." She couldn't look Zeke, Anya, or any of the waitresses or patrons in the eye.

Her breaths were short and shallow while her eyes were wide with fear. "Bye." Before she could hear a response, Lucia floated quickly out the entrance and towards Zul's home. Maybe he would be back by now. She needed someone, something. She wasn't getting it in a public place with a guy she liked, thought was cute, but who had someone else to worry about already. She didn't need to add her bullshit to his plate too.

Before she could get too far down the road away from the diner, tears began to drift down her cheeks and she slumped against a streetlight's post. Why couldn't she just be normal?
