Wind brushing her hair, Shiori closed her eyes and let the salty air fill her nostrils. She dropped her aging, yet powerful body onto the ground, causing the sand to stir and cover her golden body with a coat of beige. She sighed at the skies, and couldn't help but wonder when Kenji would arrive from his journey. Three beautifully woven baskets lay by her side, rattling lightly in the wind. They seemed to sink heavier and heavier into the sandy beach as the days went by. They had grown so heavy that even Owletta couldn't lift them anymore.
She wondered what they would look like, and what she would name them. She wondered what kind of horses they would grow up to become. She hadn't seen Sokkinin in a very, very long time, but Kenji was on his way, and would hopefully make it in time to watch his siblings emerge. Instinctively, Shiori's eyes roamed the endless coastline for Verloren, and was reminded with the heavy weight in her stomach that he wouldn't be around any time soon. He had gone to visit his daughters back east, and would most likely miss the foals coming out of their baskets. She longed for him to be back, because with him around, she never doubted anything, because she know that as long as she had him, she had nothing to worry about.
Except for this darned awful waiting! She thought impatiently in her head. You would think the pregnancy hormones would've passed by now, but she seemed to be growing more and more irritated and restless as the days went by. She stood up and shook the sand off her pelt in a swift motion, making her way towards the baskets. She lowered her head down towards the one in the middle, and prodded it with the tip of her nose.
She jumped back in shock when she felt a responding movement beneath the lid. Her eyes grew in wonder and fascination. They're coming! She thought and neighed loudly.

Under the lid of the lightest colored of the baskets, rustled a young colt who still felt like sleeping. The little one seemed to have no intention to break through his protective casing, but his body seemed to reject staying in any longer. He was excited, but tired still, sleepy. He didn't wanna get up, but something in his head told him it was time to lead the warmth of his little basket. With a short toss, the young colt tumbled out of his basket abruptly, landing in the sand and coughing, sleepily half opening his curious and excited eyes, only to shut them immediately as the sun pierced his pupils. Okay, so maybe he should've stayed in his basket. A few more attempts at opening his yellow-green eyes however, made him regret that thought.
The world around the little colt emerged, and suddenly, the little one was no longer stuck in a soft darkness, only blankets of warmth to be seen and smelt, though with the occasional salty sea air sliding into his nostrils. The rainbown spotted colt nearly jumped as he realized how big his world had become. What was this.. soft stuff at his hooves? What's that big orange thing in that big blue sky? That scent.. it was familiar. This sea air, that wind, the water. What was all this? His fluffy light green hair bounced as he gazed around in wonder, before finally settling his view on the spotted mare infront of him. He blinked in wonder up at his mother, staring, immediately feeling the connection between them, and smiling brightly.
Mother! This was his mother! He whinnied lightly, smiling up at the mare. She was the one who had been singing to him when he was still a colorless babe. He flicked his head around abit more, curious, excited about emerging into this new world. The new world didn't hurt really! Just that big glowy orange thing up there. He noticed however, two other baskets beside him, and his own open, and laying upside down, the lid thrown somewhere, and his blankets tossed aside from his tumble. So that's the thing he was in all that time! And look.. There's two more! Does that mean there would be too others like him? But those baskets looked different from him. He blinked curiously up at his mother, and almosted seemed to ask about the little baskets beside him.

It had been so long that she'd been curled up in there. In the deep darkness of her basket with the pin-points of light that pricked through during the day like so many little stars. For Cadmium, and probably her siblings, it was like living in perpetual night. Not that she knew what those things were yet; night, day, and stars were still something she'd yet experienced on her own.
As the dark green filly had gotten bigger and bigger, pushing slowly at the confines of her basket, her mind had been growing too. Curiosity and the urge to explore and see everything around her was almost as constricting as the physical sensation her basket was starting to create. It was like a personal hell ... But one she knew was safe. Who was to say that her mother was still there? Of course, the shuffing sound of the sand beneath them as Shiori rose and shook herself out was a dead giveaway of course, but one could never be too sure.
The shifting sand as their mother moved to check another basket comforted the ever-thinking filly, and when she neighed out in joy it was too much for the other girl to stand. Lifting her nose and head she pushed against the top of her woven home. She pushed as hard as she could, until the miniature crack between the lid and the basket became something of a light-filled chasm. Moving her body in such away that she could hold the lid up and still sit comfortably in the basket, two golden eyes peered around from the darkness that enveloped her little world.
Oh, but the outside was so bright. Turning her head so that she could see the source of her mother's voice, she giggled as her brother tumbled- No, exploded out of his basket. Curiouser and curiouser this day was becoming! Wanting so badly to know more about her mother, her brother, and the still encased sibling to be; the green and gold striped filly stood and delicately stepped out of her own basket. Unused to her legs and her weight atop of them, she promptly stumbled and fell with a very ungraceful thud into the sand. Not bothering to get up, she looked to Mother and Brother and smiled.
"I a-a-am h-here!" Working her mouth to make words, her teeth getting her way, she recognised that she was still the first of her siblings to make any and she was proud.

Shiori stood still, deeply in shock. After seeing her little boy stumble out of his basket, she sprung back and stared at him, almost as though she didn't know what to expect. The last time she had done this was almost two years ago, and back then she had been too young to let the experience fully sink into her memory. She never thought she would be living it again.
The little colt had a white, peachy body, with several spots on his pelt of the colors of the rainbow. He had pastel-green hair that matched his eyes. All around, he was quite charming, with a polite, calm air about him. She was just about to approach him and prod at him to see if he was healthy, her eyes swimming with tears of joy, we she heard another of the baskets pop open. Eyes shifting with newfound shock, she peered at the annihilated, second basket roll over.
Out came her little girl. With a body as green as a forest and markings like golden lightning, she couldn't help but stumble out the way her brother did. She tried to be as graceful as she could, but ended up failing. Shiori giggled at her attempt to stand without having the knobs of her knees shake without balance.
She headed over to the filly first and walked around her. She used the tip of her nose to guide her investigation of the foals, tapping various parts of her body to generate some kind of response, anything really, to prove she was healthy. Overcome with excitement, she lost herself in her returning maternal instincts and ended up nuzzling every single piece of her, and didn't leave a part of her she hadn't checked. Satisfied with her search, she craned her neck forward and placed it in her mane, fluffing it up. When she pulled back, her little green filly looked back at her with healthy, lively eyes, her hair messy and poofy.
She searched for the words to describe her. Somehow, the name Cadmium stuck out to her. It seemed fitting, and it took little deliberation to change Shiori's mind once she had cast her thoughts on something. "Cadmium?" she asked her, testing the name herself. The letters rolled off her tongue nicely.

The little spotted coat practically bounced on his rump as his mother began to approach him. He was excited, afterall, that he finally got to see the world, and now his mother was coming to him! However, things took a nasty turn as his sister popped from her basket, and tumbled out. The little filly looked really.. nothing like him at all, nor did she really look like mother either. Somewhere inside though, this little colt knew she was his sister. The little one became abit distressed as his sister got first treatments. He had been out first, afterall, and she had been coming to him. His ears quickly flicked to the side, and down, in obvious discomfort. He wanted to be nuzzled too!
In and instinct driven response, the little colt clambered onto his long, thin and shaky legs, stumbling into the sand several times as he basically just about crawled a closer to his sister. Despite only just gaining motor skills in his legs, the little colt seemed to already be getting vaguely used to the weight on them, and while perhaps unnoticable to any of them right now, he was already making much progress in staying on his rickety little legs. The length of time between when he got up and when he fell was increasing, and alot quickly than anyone would probably expect.
He did freeze however, as the little filly spoke, and took another tumble onto his rump and into the discarded blankets of his basket. Quickly feel inferiority to his younger sister, not even knowing that his motor skills were already better than most newborns, the little colts mouth opened in an attempt to utter something, anything, as long as it was comprehensible. "M-mam-ma!" He squeaked, trying to catch the attention of his mother, though his voice was high pitched and squeakier than his sister's. He blinked abit in the new sensation of speaking. It was kinda weird, but also.. kinda warm. He liked it. He liked it even more, when his mother spoke. Her voice was sweet, and familiar, and he smiled as she did. However, he didn't really udnerstand where she was going with what she said. Cadmium? What's that?
Turning his head to his sister however, he caught that his mother's gaze was still on her, and looked at his sister curiously. "C-cad.. c-ad.. Caadd.. Ca-aaddy..!" He attempted, unable to copy his mother, and settling with just Caddy. He smiled abit in his sucess, before attempting to stand again, though stumbling one more and falling back to the sands. "M-me too! M-meee!" The little colt bounced eagerly, waiting. He had already assumed that Cadmium was now what he and his mother would call the little filly from now on, and he still didn't have a name yet. He wanted to know what he was to be called now, as he yawned abit from his tries to stand and get his mother to notice him. Boy, this day has been tiring. Maybe a nap would nice just about now..

Cadmium! She liked that sound of that, like it was a special name for her and her only. One that her Momma had given to her! Like it was Momma's way of marking her as her little girl forever and ever. The little green filly smiled, blinking at her mother, in awe and pride. It was then that the movements of her brother caught her eye. Even before he did his best to say her name as well.
That was Cadmium's brother. Her older brother? He had come out of the basket first. Standing on wobbly legs, not nearly as well as her brother had, she instantly was on the soft sand again. Wiggling in a rather undignified manner as opposed to trying to walk, she made her way like a worm to her brother. Nosing him in encouragement to get up and walk to their mother. "Move! Momma ... M-momma name y-you now!"

Shiori stood in shock and wonder as her two youngest children talked and walked. Well, attempted to. Still. In her head, it was the biggest accomplishment she had ever seen in her life. She watched as the colt tried to get her attention, and instantly felt wretched for having ignored him. It was only because Cadmium had called for her first! She wanted to tell him that, but her tongue was tied and nothing came out. She could barely even stand. Even her newly born children had sturdier balance than her right now.
Overcome with concern and an overwhelming sense of motherly protection, her facial changed expression almost by the second. Fear, astonishment, love. Why was she so nervous about this? She'd done it before! Just... stay... calm... she assured herself. It had been so much easier last time. She had had two boys, and Verloren had been there to take care of one while she was giving attention to the other. But now she had three, all to herself. This reminded her that there was yet another basket to pop open. But now, she had to concentrate on her little baby boy.
She delicately walked towards him, letting her hooves really settle into the sand. She didn't know what to say, what to do, how to react. "Hey there darling..." she whispered in her gentle, delicate but strong voice. "I'm your mommy..." she smiled softly. She cocked her head towards Cadmium, and motioned for her to join them. She truly believed that Cadmium would be able to walk a couple steps. After all, she beat her elder brother to speaking!
"So, what shall we call you, you handsome little guy?" she asked cheekily, and bent down to nuzzle her son. He seemed strong, like Kenji, but delicate at heart. She could almost see through his lively eyes into his compassionate nature. He was gorgeous, and she just wanted to have him and his sister curl up beside her and sleep.
She twirled around him and gave him a thorough examination, and concluded that he was just as healthy as his sister, but had a sense of masculine power in his tiny little body. "Sena." she concluded, but let him decide whether he liked being called that. "Do you like Sena?" she asked.

The little colt whinnied lightly and cheerfully as his sister encouraged him onward, taking again, to standing, this time long enough so that he could at least try to balance himself on his wobbly limbs, and take a small step before tumbling into the sands again. He laughed lightly as he fell back, cheerfully expressing his delight at having stood for more than half a second. "M-momma!" He called out, bouncing abit in the sands next to his sister, staring up, a joy spreading into his eyes as she walked toward him. Yes! It was his turn!
He whinnied lightly as she whispered to him, feeling her closeness and hearing her voice drift through his ears. Yes, this was mother. He cooed abit as she continued speaking to him, and nosed her as she did him. She had asked him something, was he was too caught up in the moment to try to remember what she said. He giggled abit as she examined him, shifting his body abit, and smiling in satisfaction as his mother found nothing wrong with him. He blinked lightly though, as she said something unfamiliar again. Wait.. Maybe this was what he would be called!
"Sen.. na!" He repeated, smiling at the name. It was alot more simple than Cadmium, and he liked the way it rolled off his tongue. Yes! This would be his name. He liked him, and his mother had given it to him. "Sena! M-my name!" He agreed, smiling brightly, as he wobbled back onto his hooves, and tried to reach up to give his mother a nuzzle, but only suceeded in taking a couple steps forward, and tumbling at her hooves instead. He laughed lightly as he did, and smiling victoriously. He had taken the first steps! His sister had gotten the first words, but it was his turn to shine. He nuzzled her lower leg lightly, trying to stand again, determined to be the first to be able to stay on his feet, and go down only when he himself wanted to.

(As a filly xD ) Struggling with the brightness of the harsh sun, Kahya slowly peeled her eyelids back and opened her eyes. All she could see was fragments of the bright, bright light through gaps in her beautifully woven basket. But of course, she didn't know what it was.. All she could preoccupy herself with was overcoming the bright light that was making it very difficult for her to concentrate, much less see. She kicked her legs up and around, finding quite a heavy amount of difficulty in getting out of her basket. Impatience swooping over her, she neighed loudly, and was surprised when she heard her own voice. It was high pitched and soft, despite her irritation at emerging from her basket.
Finally, she managed to kick off the lid of her basket by rolling onto her back and flailing her limbs helplessly into the air. When she peered out, she was surprised to find that her eyes had adjusted to the bright light, and that it was coming from a huge circle in the sky. She whimpered after looking at it for too long, and realized it hurt her - and that she shouldn't do it again.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she noticed the others, not too far from her. They were only a couple strides away. She could hear them talking. There were two other horses around her size. She wondered whether they could be her siblings, and found it hard to convince herself that they were, considering they looked nothing alike. But, she instantly recognized her mother. She had the same spots and stripes that she did.
In a futile attempt at walking, she called out, "Momma!" She was still perched in her basket, and when she placed a hoof onto one side of the carefully woven little thing and placed her weight on it, she tumbled right out of it and landed butt-first into the sand. It was warm, and moved around her body weight. The basket returned from its turn and placed itself onto her head. She squealed in surprise. Why is everything so dark? She thought.

"Yes!" Shiori exclaimed, awestruck by her young little colt. They were both learning so fast! "Thats your name! Sena..." she whispered. It was such a kind name, lovely, and fitting for this wonderful little boy. She watched him try to stand just as Cadmium had done so before, and couldn't help but grin at his attempts. Despite his difficulty, he was learning fast for a foal.
She nudged him as his wobbly knees when they buckled, and stayed with him until he seemed sturdy enough to do the rest on his own. "I'm so.. proud of you." she told him with a warm, maternal smile.
She noticed the last of her children finally pop out of her basket. By the time she had reacted to the noise of her late-born stumbling out of her basket, the clumsy little filly was perched helplessly on the sand, with her basket on her head. With a chuckle, she trotted over to her and removed it with her teeth, revealing the frightened, golden eyes of a remarkably green girl. But, she hadn't inherited her father's green, no, the only foal that looked remotely like their father was Cadmium. Sena and this little girl had Shiori's spots, but other than their markings, they harbored little resemblance to their parents.
"Sena, Cadmium," Shiori called kindly, motioning for them to come join her.
The basket that seemed to be blocking her vision was lifted off of her head by some kind of stranger. Almost instantly, the painful sunlight glared at her, making her have to blink several times to adjust to the light. The shadow of a larger mare became more distinct to her, and the wide smile that she wore made it very clear that she was her mother. Instantly, she was overwhelmed with a sense of loving for her mother. She neighed happily at the looming figure and rolled over to get to her feet. Finding her ground, she attempted to lift herself, but found it increasingly difficult. Her impatience got the better of her, and she neighed out for help. But, when she remembered that her mother had already helped her with the basket on her head, she felt as though she was already a weakling in her eyes, and let her small little body drop to the floor. She flared her nostrils and looked down in embarrassment, accepting defeat. Not only had she been the last to come out of her basket, she was also the clumsy one, and felt undermined by her siblings. This thought made her wonder whether she should feel angry or sad, and the frustration of it all made her cry out. She neighed for someone to help her. "Mo-ma." She whimpered, letting out a sigh.

Sena's continuous attempts proved not in vain. It could be easily noticed now that Sena was well on his way to becoming able to walk. The encouragement not only from his little sister, but also from his own mother provided him the courage to continue the wobbly progression. Hearing those loving words from his mother were all he needed to fuel his desire even further, and he whinnied in success as he took a few more steps before tumbling down once more, a euphoric glow in his light green eyes.
This glow continued as he witnessed his second sister fall from the confines of her basket, and a laugh escaped his young throat as the basket itself caught on her head and how she failed to get it off. She too, looked only remotely like mom or Caddy, or even himself, though he knew only his looks by seeing his basket. They were all so different, and yet they were the same family, and treasured they were. White ears pricked forward as his mother called though, having helped his little sibling from her basket. She was calling them over!
Sena whinnied again in response, and hopped back onto his hooves in excitement, though it was this very same excitement that sent the little foal tumbling back into the sand after a small flip forward due to his unstable legs being unable to stand the little hop. Nonetheless, Sena neighed out in cheer and nudged Caddy to get up with him, and continued his attempt at the trek toward his youngest sister, a bright smile on his lips as he stumbled his way forward.

Shiori stood proudly amidst her three children. They were trying so hard and learning so quickly that she knew they had her courageous blood rushing through their veins. She trotted lightly on the sand towards Sena and beckoned him to come further. "Come on," she said. "Come meet your little sister Kahya". When saying her name, she nodded towards her youngest filly. They were all such exquisite colors that she felt thrilled to look at them for long periods at a time. And she was sure that they would grow up to become colorful individuals too. She couldn't wait to see them grow!
Kahya gave a soft neigh when she heard her name being called. It fit. She knew it was her name, and she could feel how it belonged to her. And Sena and Cadmium must be my other siblings! She thought. Carefully but eager to get going, she raised herself onto all four legs and tried to maintain her balance.
