So I was cruising around the AA, commenting people, and I notice my avi in the spotlight. (I needed to include a picture cause I love my face expression even though the actual avi is backwards) and I quickly checked how many votes I had and my score so I could see what the spotlight does for me. Nothing happened. Nobody voted at all. Maybe it was just a bad time of night? That seems absurd though. I mean, the spotlight changes only like every 5 minutes.

I usually only look at avatars in the spotlight if something about them interests me. If they look like the usual junk you see in the arena, I ignore it. I don't know why more people weren't interested in checking yours out and rating it, though. The pic definitely caught my eye, lol.
And right now, it's 9:42 on a Monday morning, and I love seeing what time zones people are in.

I ended up not getting any more votes for the rest of the contest. =X
idk only getting 60 votes for a whole week seems really wrong there's gotta be a better way to program the arenas so that everyone gets equal publicity
cause at least half of my votes had to come from guild members I post it in like three different guild AA threads and it was part of a group entry
that means only 30 other people saw my entry of the hundreds of people that join the AA, you'd think I'd have more votes

I would think that the spotlight would hurt, rather than help, your ranking in the arenas. It would make it more accessible for down voters. It seems that there are few earnest voters these days. The people who win (and this is not meant to offend anyone, as I am guilty of this) usually advertise where the people who see it will give them support rather than give them a bad vote.

Aww, that's sad to hear. And, yeah, the time you posted this thread was at 11:51 pm est time (USA). That means it was 8:51 pm on the Pacific coast where the Gaia headquarters is located. It was a Sunday night in the US. It's crunch time for college students right now. They should be studying heavily for final exams and working on final projects. Anyone who goes to work or school the next day (including high school and middle school) should have been in or going to bed. As far as the US goes, that doesn't sound like a productive time slot for spotlight results. The people on the west coast might not have been asleep yet, but it would have been getting close. Monday night sounds like a pretty okay time for a spotlight. I don't know where you're located, but hopefully there are lots of Gaians in your country.
I feel the same way that Kiwi Popsicle does. I think the spotlight would hurt. I rarely vote in the arenas, but I do click on some of the spotlight avis when I'm in there. I don't down vote people just to down vote. I am, however, a harsh rater so most spotlight avatars don't get very high scores from me. (Most avatars don't get high scores from me, period.) I say harsh, but I think I'm just being fair. I'm not as harsh as other people... Though I think that's why I stay out of the arenas. The entries annoy me too much and I spend too much time writing constructive comments that people probably just delete later anyway.
The GCD seems to be a good place to advertise. I skim the GCD for my Gaia news every couple days or so. I always see people with images in their sigs linking to their AvA entries. ...And, lo and behold, I usually see those entries in the winners circle that week.

I've noticed myself there a few times, but I think that it changes so frequently that it never really does much. The only time it helps seems to be if it's in the "all" section.

I also saw myself in the spotlight at night. Right now I have 52 votes with only one day left.. *sigh*
I really think the old arena was much better, I'd get 600 votes EASY over there.. cry Oh well, old times are over I guess..
