Keru sighed, huffing and crossing its little green arms as it glanced around. He'd seen the cartoons! Check-ups were where they gave you shots and a lollipop. Psh, as if shots were worth just one lousy lollipop! "Don't wanna." the little green one asserted, tone firm and loud. "Wanna go play. No shots." Maybe if he could grab a lollipop and run?
"Nah, nah, no needta get fusseh." Anali said, smiling as she hugged her reluctant little child. She had the little one balanced on her hip as they waited. "Nah, if ya b'have lak y'oughta, Momma will go and git you some ahs-cream, kay shuga?"
Keru thought a moment before looking at his mother. "Don't wanna." he reiterated, slower and louder than before.

"Don't wanna what?" came Apoxi's cheery voice as she poked her head out of the lab. Her usual dark glasses were replaced with smaller clear ones that sat neatly on her nose, her floofy hair braided back so she actually looked like a doctor for a change. The plain lab coat she usually wore had been replaced with a doctor's coat and she wore a stethoscope around her neck.
"Hey Keru-dear." she cooed.

Keru's frown lessened as it saw the familiar face, lips threatening a small smile. "Don't wanna get a shot." he explained, rubbing his arm. "That what happens at checkups. Get shot, then lollipop." The child's ebony eyes then fell on the stethoscope. "What that shiny?" he asked, reaching out for it.

"No shots, I promise." Apoxi told it with a smile, before lifting up the stethoscope. "This'll tell me how you're breathing and how your heart is."
She smiled up at Anali, "You can go ahead outside and enjoy the barbecue. I've just gotta give Keru its checkup and then I'll send it right out."

Anali smiled and nodded, setting her little green child down. "Alright." she said before looking back down to Keru. "Ya be a good chile for Miss Apoxi heah, alright?" she said, patting his head.
Keru just nodded; psh, it was always good as far as it was concerned. Besides, it liked Apoxi; she was pretty nice. It looked at the shiny, curious. "It talks?" it asked, wings twitching a bit. Oooh, he wanted one! It sounded so cool!

"Nah, it doesn't talk. Here, I'll show you how it works." she explained, taking the little thing from around her neck and setting it up at the creature's ears. She took the metal end and pressed it to her chest, breathing in and out so he could hear her heart as she did it.
"Hear that?"

Keru listened a moment, smiling. "It sounds like a drum." the little green winged one said, giggling. "And it sounds all breathy! What is it?" Black obsidian eyes looked up Apoxi; someone was curious, yepyep. So far, this shiny was proving to be quite interesting! He wanted one!

"Well that's me breathing. It makes the sounds of what's inside my chest - like my heart and my lungs - louder so you can hear it." the older female explained, pulling a clean stethoscope out to check him now. "You can keep that one if you really want, but you don't get a sucker cause you got that."

Keru nodded, soaking up the new information like a sponge. Hmmm.... sugary treat or shiny? The little green one thought a moment before smiling. "Mine." it affirmed, nodding as it held it's newly-claimed shiny. Everyone knew shinies were way better than candy; they lasted longer. "Thankiyou." he said, grinning.

Apoxi grinned, petting his hair a bit. "You're welcome."
After checking his breathing, she pulled out another tool with a plastic tip, explaining its use for ears, nose and throat. "I've gotta put clean plastic on for each one."
