Alone.
Alone...
She wasn't sure how long she could go on like this. She loved the life of a wanderer, of not having to answer to anyone. To be able to be herself and not conform to rules...but the loneliness of it...it all but killed her.
She had thought everything so perfect when she had met Ahnik and he had agreed to come with her but now he was gone. Gone with his pretty little females. He probably wouldn't even notice or care that she had gone. She'd probably been nothing but an irritant to him anyway. He didn't realise that she cared for him. That she had loved him. And now he never would because she would not go anywhere near him ever again. Perhaps it was better to be alone than to be heartbroken by friends.
Perhaps it was better to be alone...
A sob racked through her and the female - already looking scruffy despite the thorough grooming she had been given a few days prior - paused to look around. She wasn't exactly sure where she had gone or where she was now. She had just kept walking and walking, not looking back. Never looking back. But now she was tired and hungry and desperately unhappy...
What should she do now?
Perhaps she should go and look for her father...or her mother...or one of her siblings. Perhaps she ought to just give in and find a pride...

Dez'i had some how survived an interesting amount of time by himself. He wasn't that sure how he managed but he did. Between not being able to hear well at all he some how avoided danger and fed himself. Even if it was just a small amount when he could manage to grab something. The little cub had the blood of a warrior through him as did his mother and his father. The only different is that his mother and father or for that matter the rest of the pride wanted nothing to do with him because he couldn't hear. If only they could see him now. He was growing, albeit he was a little on the skinny side because of lack of food, but he was very much growing strong.
But today was one of those days that he too was filled with loneliness. While the cubs at his pride, even his brother and sister, grew up with others around them to have fun and play with, he sat in the rogue lands his little paws tucked under him as he laid under a tree trying to get some shade and rest, trying to catch up and relax from the wandering that he was doing.
But he couldn't hear the cries of a lioness not too far away. He didn't know that anyone was around for that matter. He was comfortable, even though he was tired, he was thankful to get some rest and not worry even if it was for a few mintues. Or so he thought. The smell of the lioness soon met his nose and he curiously looked up in the direction that the lioness was. "Who's there." The little lion comanded, he knew there were some bad lions around in the area and he really didn't want to meet anyone that would hurt him. Oh not, he really didn't.

Ka'ohu could be rude and somewhat difficult to get on with, especially with her rough and tumble sort of attitude. But she certainly wasn't mean and she certainly wouldn't hurt a cub.
She heard the small, commanding voice and lifted her head and ears, scanning the area for any signs of a little lion. By the tone of his voice she was guessing he was not yet adolescent, so she had nothing to fear. However, if he was here and all alone, did that mean his mother would be here too? Would she be angry if she saw a scruffy, bulky looking rogue near her child?
Probably...
But, what if the kid was lost? Or his mother had gone to hunt and he was scared and alone...just like she was?
"Jes me." She replied. "A rogue, nuthin' tah worry yerself abou'." She padded towards the direction she thought the lion was in. "Where're you, eh?"

As the little cub heard a faint sound of the lioness's voice. It was too faint for him to hear. He looked around scared before backing up against the tree. "W-what?" He stuttered. He was so confused on what to do, he had avoided lions up to this point and hadn't ran into any of them really. It was a little strange but he had always been afraid that some one was going to hurt him to try to kidnap him, because of that he tried to avoid lions. But at the second between not having any idea where the lion was or for that matter what to do with himself he just couldn't run.
"Wh-Who are you! Show yourself!" He squeaked as he called out once more. He flicked his tail around a few times before holding his breath for a moment he was really hoping who ever it was was friendly oh he really wanted a friendly lion around.

And just as he asked her to show herself, Ka'ohu appeared. She was a bulky looking lioness, not fat, but muscular and strong looking. Her fur was actually looking better groomed than its usual tangles and dusty coating, but it was certainly heading back to the unkempt appearance it had had before her attempt to make herself pretty.
She paused, seeing the stranger for the first time and blinking in surprise. A young, pale coated male who seemed slightly confused and also, seemingly, not able to understand simple words.
"Ah tol' yer already." She grunted. "I'mma rogue. Why're yoos out all alone, eh? No' safe for a li'l guy like yoos."

Dez'i finally spotted the lioness who was talking, he could still only hear a little buzz of a sound. He hated knowing that others were talking to him when he couldn't really hear them because they weren't close enough to him. Another cub told him that he was jealous because Dez'i couldn't hear unless others were close to him but Dez'i though the other cub was crazy. Sure the cub pointed out how much fun it would be to ignore an annoying sibling, however the fact that he would give anything to have a sibling around he found the idea ridiculous.
He sighed before sitting back on his haunches as he watched the carefully, he was still a little nervous because of the fact that the lioness was so close and on top of that he didn't know her or know how she was going to act. He waited a moment before calling out anyway. "I can't hear you. I can't hear anything unless it is close to me." He said to her with a nodd he wasn't really sure what else to tell her. He hated having to explain to others why he couldn't hear them.

She blinked. "Wha-?" He couldn't hear her? Ka'ohu was pretty much a dunce when it came to most things, but disabilities she could understand. She'd been one of a small litter or four, including her, and one of her brothers had been born blind.
She knew how he had struggled but continued on, rising above each and every challenge. Then he'd gone his own way one day and they had never set eyes on one another again. Even still, she admired him greatly for it, not certain that she'd be able to go off alone in a world of constant darkness.
But she'd never met a lion with hearing problems and now she felt bad about her rough way of speaking to him. He was only a kid and he was all alone.
Realising that he might be afraid, she lowered herself and crawled forwards, coming closer so that he might hear her better. When she spoke again, her voice was raised. "Ah'm Ka'ohu. Yoo can call meh Ka if yer like. What're yah doin' ou' 'ere all alone, eh? Where's yer parents, kiddo?"

Dez'i smiled slightly and grinned a little bit at her. "Thank you miss." He nodded, he was a pretty friendly little lion at times despite his hard hearing and being alone. He knew where his parents were and he knew why he was here. He flicked his 'mane' out of his eyes before grinning at the lioness. "I like your name." He wiggled his toes around in the sand before flicking his tail around.
Then her next question hit home. It normally hit home for him. He still wasn't used to the idea that he wasn't welcomed into his home. He cleared his throat and quieted himself some. "Umm." He coughed then looked at the female and smiled slightly looking down at his paws. "My mama didn't want me." He said simply, he then shook his head. "I couldn't hear right so they didn't want me in the pride. They said I couldn't be a strong warrior if I couldn't hear." He gave her a shy smile before shaking his head and puffing out his chest.
"But I am a strong warrior!" He pouted slightly at the idea. No matter how much he wished he fit in at home he knew he couldn't. He didn't like that idea one but but there wasn't anything he could do about it. The only thign that he could do about it was... Stay alive since he was kicked out of the pride. "When I was litttle they kicked me out and I've been able to stay alive since I've been on my own."He huffed

"Thanks, kiddo." She replied, not remembering the last time she'd been given a compliment...well, there had been that other female, Hababuu. What had she said? Something about inner beauty? She shrugged inwardly, suddenly distracted by the little one's response to her other question.
Where were his parents?
She blinked, utterly shocked and disgusted. The rage welled in her so suddenly that it scared even her. How dare they?! How dare they?! She felt her hackles rise, her claws curling into the hard-packed earth beneath her. He was a child! A child! And then the rage was replaced with a sudden heart-wrenching pain and she gave a short - almost pained - cry of disbelief.
"Pah, what do they know, eh? Yer strong, fer sure! Real strong!" And he had to be...to be out here, still alive, and willing to go on after being...being...abandoned!
She blinked. "Wha's yer name, kiddo?" And then she cut herself off. What if they hadn't even bothered to name him?

Dez'i liked to appreciate little things like names and meeting others. He liked to appreciate little things because it made the big things that were annoying or didn't go right seem not as bad. He stared off into space a smile was on his lips, he couldn't help but to get distracted by the idea. But something snapped him out of his thoughts. He looked at the lioness with a slightly scared and confused look on his face. But then as she spoke he grinned. "I am strong!" He agreed with her, he was strong she had to admit, it was true!
H smield at her before offering his name. "My name is Dez'i." He nodded before proudly adding "I gave it to myself." He then looked at her and grinned and laughed a little bit. "Look! You're eye color is close to mine."

"Well! It's nice tah meet'cha, Dez'i. That's a good name yah got yerself, kiddo." She kept the smile on her face, somewhat heartened by his seemingly upbeat attitude despite all he had been through.
It made her feel somewhat pathetic, too.
She was a grown up all alone and she was finding it unbearable...and here he was, so small and innocent, just getting on with it. Showed her a thing of two, didn't it?
"Blue is the best eye colour there is!" She grinned. "An' look, yer've got the same white ears, like meh, too." She gave him a light nudge with a forepaw and then flopped down onto her stomach.
"Say, kiddo...what were yah plannin' tah do, exactly?"

A smile grew bigger on his lips, before he puffed his chest out more. "Well... kind of gave it to myself I shortened it!" He giggled a little more before flicking his hair out of his eyes. "It means sorrow..." His voice trailed before he bounced to his feet and puff his chest out a little more. "But I like to pretend it means a lot of different things like 'brave' or 'warrior'!" He giggled at the idea before he grinned again at her next comment. "We do! Thats really cool!"
He giggled before bouncing a little closer to her and looking up with a slightly troubled face. "I don't know... I want to find something to eat though. Buggies aren't much and don't make my belly happy..." His voice trailed again before he then smiled up at her. "I want to become a Warrior though!" He nodded puffing out his chest again and then grinning at the older female. "I want to become one of the best warriors i want to prove everyone wrong!" He looked up at her with a big grin. "Then I can protect everyone.

Without warning, she drew closer, wrapping a forepaw around his shoulders and pulling him against her - though she would instantly free him if he struggled.
"How 'bout yoos stick with meh fer a bit, eh? Ah'll get yeh all fed an' make sure yoo ain't all alone out 'ere!" She couldn't bear to leave him now, not now that she understood the true tragedy of what had befallen him; such a kind and gentle boy. He deserved love and kindness and, if his parents weren't going to offer it, then she would!!
If he wanted it, of course.
"So, what d'yah say?"

Dez'i blinked as he was pulled close to the lioness, that feeling of some one's paw wrapped around him was not something that he was used to. He never had affection like that shown to him, he never was really held as a cub and so this was someting that he... liked. He smiled at her he liked this. And then the question that she asked made him grin ear to ear.
He nuzzled into her and nodded as he did. "I would really like to stay with you." He purred quietly before he looked back up at her. "Can I call you mommy?" He asked a little more quietly.

She held him a little tighter when he didn't resist, pressing her snout to the fur between his ears. She could not believe the cruelty of some...and she hoped that she would never have to face those who had abandoned this by, afraid of what she might do.
"Than tha's decided then!" She grinned. "Yoos can stay with meh fer as long as yah like. Ah ain't got nothin' else tah do and, to tell yah the truth, kiddo, ah been lonely too."
She drew back a little, laughing at his next question. "Mom? Really?" She shrugged, finding it a little weird. She never thought she'd have children of her own and here was this boy, so sweet and innocent. "Ah guess yoos can if yah likes!"
