[19:30] failurexstereo: Bl'arza dragged large thick branches past a fresh kill in the late evening breeze. He piled stacked them craftily, creating a small shelter just large enough for two adult lions to fit in, even if it would be a little cozy. The kill was for Ekundu, a very small gazelle kid, and the shelter was for the two of them to share for the night while they rested their paws; a sort of tradition that had formed between them. He hummed happily as he worked, ignoring the clenching, churning gut feeling that he was moving far too slow, and his brother would happen upon him all too soon

[20:16] eikkyubi: Ekundu smiled, watching as Bl'Arza spent his time, looking after het. She found it silly and uneeded. She blinked and didn't let him know she was awake. She thought about his feelings personally, and then smiled. He wouldn't mind if she played a trick on him. She crept out into the forest to make him think she disppeared.

20:24] failurexstereo: Bl'arza's body swayed with his humming as he fidgeted with a branch to make it just right, so they'd be somewhat protected from the rain if a sudden storm happened. He began to turn, speaking to Ekundu as he did so, when he realized she was gone. "Wake up, Eku, it's time to eat.... Ekundu?" He looked around frantically, chuffing and sniffing about. Her scent was everywhere, and coming from many directions, which made it hard for him to find the path she'd taken. "Ekundu!

[19:07] eikkyubi: Ekundu was smiling, hoping he wasn't taking things to seriously. She purred in amusement as she heard him echo her name. She didn't hear fear in his voice, so she kept going, and took a small drink of water at a stream she came upon. She let the cool water rest in her mouth before gulping it down, and waiting while Arza came to find her.

Fear? No. But a desperate, protective wave crashed over him, indeed. He was responsible for her, for her safety. He knew his brother was near, and didn't have a clue how much Nazar had found out. Anyone close to Bl'arza would be in danger.

He followed th closest scent path frantically, out into the dense foliage. "Eku! This isn't funny!!!" He huffed, trying to get a good hold on her smell. He wasn't a canine. This was really hard for him.

[19:24] eikkyubi: Ekundu heard the slight anger in his voice. She winced. Was it really all that bad? She frowned. It was just a little joke. And even the birds around thought it was fun, because they were chirping, and the water gurgled, so it must have been an okay thing to do. She sighed and piped her soft voice. "Arza?

[19:28] failurexstereo: The soft whisper hit his eardrums and he took off in the direction of the river. He no longer bothered with scent, just full out ran, not slowing until the gurgle was so distinctive it almost drowned out the noises of animals. In reality, it took only a few seconds. In his mind, it took hours,

He came to a halt a few feet to the north of her and frantically swayed his head side to side, looking for her form. When he spotted it his shoulders sagged a little in relief, and he took another look around, this one calculating.

"What were you thinking Ekundu?" He strode towards her and bowed his head to rest his nose on her forehead. "You could have been hurt. I didn't know where you were..."

[12:29] eikkyubi: Ekundu Sighed, and frowned. She shuffled her paws. "I.. wasn't thinking.." She looked up at him. "Don't be angry. I wasn't trying to get you mad. I just wanted to have a little fun for a chance. It's not fun having to do everything your told. I mean, even you know that, don't you?" She glanced off into the brush, to see the creek bubbling into the distance beyond it.

[12:32] failurexstereo: He heaved a sigh. He understood, even he didn't like doing everything he told himself he had to do, but his instincts told him to protect, protect, protect, and that was hard to ignore. "It may not be fun, but sometimes you just have to do it, Ekundu. I'm not trying to upset you or bore you, or even dampen your fun, I'm just trying to keep you safe." That's why so much thought went into the resting places. They were places well hidden, often with so many flowers it would be hard to determine the age of any scent left there because of the overpowering fragrence. He wiped prints away, hid them. How else was he supposed to make sure she stayed alive?

[12:36] eikkyubi: Ekundu sighed, and nodded. "You are correct in that stance." She heaved her body up with all her energy, and snorted. "I'm sorry I worried you, 'Arza. I won't do that again." She smiled, and brushed against his head, purring softly.

[12:40] failurexstereo: He purred back at her, gentle and light. His heart was still heavy with leftover worry -- adrenaline gone wrong -- but at least he'd found her and she hadn't disappeared at the paws of his brother. "I'm not going to let him get you, Eku. I'll do anything to keep that from happening. I care too much about you." And he still realized what that could mean in the future. What he might have to give up to keep her safe.

He gave another soft sigh and turned toward the water. "C'mon. Lets catch something to eat while we're here."

[12:42] eikkyubi: Ekundu smiled, I know you won't. I really hope you don't let that blind you though." She said, letting a frown form on her face. "Sometimes, protection clouds the real world. What you think is happening doesn't happen, and then it could be bad the next day." She sighed. The sound of catching something sounded like a good idea. She nodded, and walked towards the creek, and nodded. "Alright."

[12:47] failurexstereo: He knelt at the edge of the water, two paws dipped in as he watched intently for any movement. He didn't say anything for a long while.

Finally he glanced at her and then back at the water. "He's crazy, Eku. He's not going to just hug me and call a truce. Killing my cubs wasn't enough for him. Honestly, I'm not even sure if the cubs' mother is alive, either. He might have gotten to her. He's going to want me, and anyone around me dead for what he sees as a betrayal. If he finds you, Eku, you have to lie. You don't know me, you've never seen any lion like me, you watched me die in a territorial fight - whatever you have to say to send him away." He looked at her seriously. "This isn't a joke, and it's not an over-reaction."

[12:52] eikkyubi: She nodded, and sighed. "Did I say something to offend you? Because really, I don't see where you get the fact as if I think this is a joke. Last time I tried to "joke" you didn't think of it that way. Makes me think you have no sense of humor. But no, this isn't a joke, and I already knew that." She went back to watching the fish swim and dipped her hand into the water, pulling one out, and killing it with a single blow.

[12:57] failurexstereo: He shook his head. "No. No. I just want you to understand how serious this is. I have a sense of humor. Ekundu this isn't who I am. I'm scared. Terrified. I'm usually confident, cocky. I've got an ego larger that the dens we sleep in. But I saw one of his children, Eku. A son. You know how I know it was his? It has my mother's eye markings. My eye markings. And I haven't been with a female other than you long enough to even begin to form cubs." His eyes were wide, terrified orbs. "He's so close."

[12:59] eikkyubi: Ekundu frowned. "You have too been around a female long enough to form cubs. I mean, honestly, I'd make a great mother. But you probably don't think so." She sighed and instantly got stiff. "How. Close?" She hissed through her teeth.

[13:03] failurexstereo: He shook his head, trying to regain his calm. "Of course you'd make a wonderful mother. I haven't met anyone more fit for motherhood." He eyed her, as if that was a silly thing to say.

"Four nights ago we were about a few hours walk away from where ever the boy was from. I didn't talk to him. I was terrified that Nazar might be close. I ran away."

[13:34] eikkyubi: She sighed shaking. "Arza.. I just don't have the energy to go anywhere today. After me running away.. I jsut feel like I could fall asleep. Please don't make me move today. We can stay here, by the creek, and then leave in the morning. How about that?

[13:37] failurexstereo: His face flashed into the water and then he came back up with a fish clamped between his jaws, a little bit of blood mixing with the water dripping off his face. He turned and placed the fish on the ground, underneathe a solid paw, and looked back at her. "Yeah. Lets head back and eat, and then we'll sleep. We'll move tomorrow." He didn't want her weak when the moved, but when she fell asleep he'd be back out here, erasing the traces of their time spent here.
