So, most of us seem to like movies. What movies have we all seen, recently, and what'd you think of them? And what are your favourite movies of all time?
Discuss.

I, myself, saw Clash of the Titans today, with some friends. I thought it was pretty good, all told, but not great. Maybe I didn't take it all in properly, though, as I was a bit busy breaking up popcorn fights during some scenes.
SPOILERS:
Some things about it bugged me, like the main girl (I forget her name...) coming back to life at the end, just because. I particularly liked the way Medusa and the Kraken looked, though. The latter was...pretty terrifying.
As for my favourite movies...hm. I'll come back to that.

Torzeh I never actually saw the original, but now I'd like to. You know, I've never seen the original, either, but I've always loved myth and monsters as much as I do now... And always pretty forgiving of cheesiness and camp if I was to be presented with such. I remember that we were always out somewhere where it was on TV and I was always so irritated by that. Now a remake is in theaters and we're desperately poor... Ah well. Hopefully I'll be able to swing a couple of tickets when it comes to the cheap theater. EDIT: Which do you preffer, Amber?

I fell asleep three times during the original and I wasn't even half way through the movie. It's black and white.. and I believe some of the scene are done with clay? or stop motion.. cant remember which. But its kinda funny none the less. I remember laughing at the Pegasus scene.
<.< I have yet to see the remake..
But.. my friend who DOES love the original.. didn't like the remake much at all.
e_e Still wish he would of taken me though.. the remake looked bad a**.

Hmm... Haven't seen Clash of the Titans yet- original or remake. Sounds kind of interesting, though.
The most recent movie that I've watched was My Bloody Valentine- and it's not one that I'll be recommending to any even half-serious movie-watcher. Bad acting, obviously fake gore (and other special effects), crappy lines, and an extremely predictable plot-line make it more of a C- or D-rated movie in my opinion. I found it to be so god-awful that I couldn't even laugh at the movie.
Somewhat-spoiler: They practically tell you who the killer is not once, but TWICE in the first half-hour of the movie. Seriously; anyone with a decent power of observation would know who the killer was going to be just by the type of movie it is.
One of my favorite horror/thriller movies, however, has been and remains to be Robert Weis' The Haunting, made in 1963. Who knew that a movie with one special effect could be so appropriately tense?

Having seen both the original and remake of Clash of the Titans, I must say I prefer the remake. Harry Hamlin is just not a good actor, by anyone's standards. -Spoilers- I am surprised that the original and remake are so different. In the original, Andromeda (princess of Joppa) is betrothed to Calibos, son of Thetis. Calibos has destroyed Zeus' herd of flying horses, and is turned into an ugly satyr-like creature and forced to live in the marshes, and is therefore unable to marry Andromeda. Perseus (son of Zeus, obviously) learns that no man can marry Andromeda unless he answers a riddle. Those that fail are executed. Follwing an epic fight scene, Perseus cuts Calibos' hand off, thus gaining his ring, which is the answer to the riddle. At the wedding, Andromeda's mother compares her daughter's beauty to that of Thetis, who promptly demands Andromeda as a sacrifice to the Kraken, else Joppa be destroyed.
The remake, however, is much different. Perseus is a fisherman who is thrust into an epic battle for mankind. The remake is more about the relationship between the Gods and Mankind. While I do prefer this version, I find it strange to call it a remake. It's not the same for a HUGE part of the movie. Yes, the journey is the same(-ish), and the witches, and medusa, but the Dijin, the imps, and the absence of Bubo (who was my favourite in the original) are all new. That said, the actors and actresses who play the Gods are amazing and well-picked. Though, Maggie Smith was OUTSTANDING in the original. Despite its differences, I love the remake. Mads Mikkelsen is the best.
And Eliae, having not seen My Bloody Valentine, I must say I'm disappointed with your opinion - I'd been hoping it would be good, because I was so excited about it when it came out, but I wasn't old enough to go and see it. It now seems that it was just as well if it is as much of a disappointment.
Personally, my favourite movie is The Last Castle, starring Robert Redford and James Gandolfini. It has been since I was about 12, and probably will be until I die.

I thought it looked absolutely ridiculous and terrible, not any better than the next piece of teeny-bopper slasher s**t that has become the beast that has devoured 99% of the horror genre. What about it made you think that it would be worth the two hours of your life in the first place?

While that's still my life's dream, the fact that it starred Jensen Ackles helped a fair bit. I like him as an actor.

A few weeks ago, Josh and I finally saw the Burton version of Alice at our local second-run theatre. I must say I was rather disappointed. Having read an interview Burton did for Entertainment Weekly, I had known going into it that he had never read either of the Alice books, but I still had decent expectations for the film. Unfortunately, it was as though someone had taken the good parts of the Burton oeuvre, mashed them together with some parts of The Looking-glass Wars, and then proceeded to film the entire thing in a soulless studio, so that there was no emotion or life to be found in the entire thing.
I'm still interested in seeing what becomes of the proposed Maleficent film the studio plans to make, but I hope it's better than this Alice.
As for favourite films, I have far too many. For animated films, I tend to break my picks into groups by studio (Disney, Ghibli, Pixar, etc.). I do the same for some genres, such as musicals, as well. But above all other films, I place The Seventh Seal and Schindler's List. These are both truly amazing, inspiring pieces of film that question humanity and its motivations in powerful ways. Of course, the films are also exquisitely crafted and performed. I imagine the former is a bit more esoteric, but please do give it a shot.

The most recent movie that I have seen was Repo Men. It is a great movie but the end... No more from me on that part. Don't want to spoil it if you people want to see it.
My Bloody Valentine was a big disappointment but I didn't have anything else to do.
I liked the original Clash of the Titans and I have some hope that the remake will be as good but I'm not holding my breath.
The new Alice is a great movie if you go in with a completely clean slate of expectations. It will crush most of them though I do like the story.
Favorite movie? That is hard. It's a toss up between The Italian Job and Gone in 60 Seconds Nicholas Cage version.

Shaymer My Bloody Valentine was a big disappointment but I didn't have anything else to do. The new Alice is a great movie if you go in with a completely clean slate of expectations. It will crush most of them though I do like the story. I don't know which is the biggest surprise; that so many people in the guild saw My Bloody Valentine or that so many people actually expected it to be decent enough to describe the resulting emotion as "disappointment." The word is that Burton never actually read Alice but based the production on the adaptations that he'd seen. I'd never advise doing a movie that way and its merits in terms of story-integrity are not at all beyond question but as overrated as I see the story I'm not about to come to its rescue. Burton's concept entertained me, but I wouldn't recommend seeing it unless you mind immediately being thrown into the river of Burton-Style... But that's true of nearly all of his movies. They seem to be 85% Burton 15% the story that he's telling.
