The Keeper ... Seymour Luikart // Completed & Accepted!!

XXXCharacter name//
XXXXXXXXSeymour Luikart.

XXXAge//
XXXXXXXX28.

XXXRegion//
XXXXXXXXBorn in Shyregoed.
XXXXXXXXRaised in Helios for a small amount of time.
XXXXXXXXMoved back to Shyregoed (edge of Shyregoed, close to Helios) at the age of 5.

XXXOccupation//
XXXXXXXX...NOMAD/HERMIT.

XXXAppearance//
XXXXXXXXSeymour is around 6'4 and rather bulky in build (when one needs to carry his own fire wood around, they tend to get muscles). He has dark brown hair that ends slightly before the shoulder and owns a pair of chocolate brown eyes (usually hidden under all his hair). With the cold climate of his home, Seymour's wardrobe is rather limited and most people will see him in: a heavy worn out coat that tends to make the silent man even more like a 'bear' then he would like, a pair of pants (they are usually only brown or dark brown), and a pair of old boots.

XXXPersonality//
XXXSeymour is very quiet. He doesn’t talk much and most would believe he was mute, but – obviously – that’s not true. Seymour can talk, but he doesn’t like talking. The man prefers to keep things to himself and hardly ever replies to anyone. The most an average stranger could get out of him is a nod. Of course, there are some people (like his grandfather) who Seymour does not mind talking to and even then he tries to keep his sentences and questions short and straight to the point.

XXXWith how quiet he is, some believe that he prefers being alone. That is half true. Seymour doesn’t mind the loneliness, but he doesn’t like it either. As a human, he likes to be surrounded by people, but there is one problem: He does not know how to react to others. Seymour lived most of his life with his grandfather, and the two – usually – stay near the house. They only ever leave the house when food is running low or when they are running out of fire wood. Seymour’s grandfather hardly ever invites anyone other and even when it happens, it’s pretty annual. In Seymour’s life, he had only encountered a handful of people (those being his grandfather and the family doctor) and this makes interacting with others a very alien concept to him.

XXXHardly interacting with others does have an effect on the man. Seymour is really easy to make fun of and he also gets embarrassed really easily. Since he does not know how to react to certain situations, the man would just blush, hide his face in his scarf and just wait for the embarrassment to end. He also gets flustered very easily.

XXXHowever, despite his silence, the man is actually very nice. Seymour likes being helpful, but with the problem of his ‘anti-social’ behavior and how tall he is, most people would run from him before he could help.

XXXSeymour is also a hard worker. He usually finishes his given chores a head of time, and uses what’s left to either read or start on the chores for the next day (if the chore could be done early). Even though they have books in the house, there’s not many and most of them are old news papers or notes his father had previously owned, but Seymour doesn’t mind. He likes reading.

XXXHobbies//
XXXSeymour likes to read. Sadly, the only books available to him are a combination of old news papers and a small stake of documents that had once belong to his father.

XXXLikes//
XXXThere are a lot of things that Seymour likes, but his current favorites would have to be snow and his grandfather's kiseru. His favorite past time as a little boy was to watch the snow fall outside while he and his grandfather sat near the window together. His grandfather would always have his kiseru with him as they sat there, talking. He can still remember the smell of tobacco coming off from the pipe and his grandfather's shirt. Those days were his favorite and they are his fondest memory of his grandfather.

XXXDislikes//
XXXSeymour doesn't really hate anything, but there is one thing he prefers not to do: over sleeping. When the man over sleeps, the rest of the day ends up feeling like a daze. There are even times when he got headaches from over sleeping.

XXXHistory//
XXXSeymour was born in Shyregoed, but his parents didn’t think the isolating environment would do the boy any good. So they had decided to move to Helios where it was warmer, and was more crowded and friendlier. However, he was forced to move back to Shyregoed at the age of 5. Tragedy had struck, and a fire had broken out in his house. Both his parents were burned to death and he was the only survivor. Without a home and without his parents, Seymour was sent back to live with his grandfather.

XXXLife wasn’t bad for him. The boy learned to survive alone and had also learned to be independent. Seymour was living just fine with only his grandfather and the occasional visit from the doctor (annual checkups). Sure the two might leave for town once in a blue moon, but those occasions are rare and it only lasts for a few hours (they spend it buying new equipment and the occasional news paper).

XXXNothing exciting happened in Seymour’s life, but it was fulfilling. He grew up happy and had all the family love he needed from his grandfather, his life was bright and it was going great.

XXXSadly, fate always has plans.

XXXAs Seymour grows, so does his grandfather. By the time Seymour was an adult his grandfather was already a very old man. Sure the old man was healthy, but he was still old and was having problems with his body (back aches and joint pains). In order to repay his grandfather for everything he had done, Seymour took over. Just as the old man had taken care of him, Seymour was going to look after his grandfather. Neither put much thought into the natural orders of life, it was natural for people to grow old and eventually die. It was life! However, Seymour’s grandfather becoming infected with the Black Plague was completely unexpected.

XXXWith a weakened body, Seymour's grandfather fell victim to the plague as many has. Since there is no cure, the only thing Seymour could do was watch as the virus slowly ate away at his grandfather's life. A month after the infection, Seymour's grandfather stopped breathing.

XXXWhen Seymour saw the dead man, he didn't cry. He just stood there for a good minute, trying to understand the situation before finally deciding what to do. The process of burying his grandfather was slow and painful, but he did it. He had buried his grandfather. As the realization hit him, the man finally started to cry.

XXXAfter the death of his grandfather, Seymour lived by himself. It was painful at first, and having so many memories shared in that house made it even worst. However, Seymour forced himself to move on. The first thing he did after he's realization was to move everything that belonged to his grandfather into the storage room. It took him a while, but he did it. He had moved everything into the storage room, well, almost everything. The only thing that still lingers was the kiseru his grandfather had always kept. Seymour didn't know why, but he just couldn't bare to even think of letting it collect dust. Maybe it was because it was his grandfather's treasure? Maybe it was because the old man always had it with him? Seymour wasn't sure, but something about his grandfather's kiseru just makes it hard for him to store away.

XXXWith a sigh, the man stored away everything but the kiseru.

XXXSince then, the kiseru rests itself on top of the fire place. It sits there as a reminder to Seymour of the man who raised him and also of the time the two had shared.

The Plague ... Silver Kiseru//

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

XXXName of Plague//
XXXXXXXXClance

XXXGender//
XXXXXXXXMale

XXXItem History//
XXXThis pipe was a gift from Seymour's grandmother to his grandfather back when the two first gotten married. It had been their first anniversary gift and the old man had been using it since. The kiseru -in appearance- is just like any ordinary kiseru, the beginning and end of the pipe are made of silver while the body is made from a piece of bamboo. By looking at the healthy shine of the silver, anyone can see the care and love the old man bares for the pipe.

XXXAfter the Seymour's grandfather died, the pipe started to release black smoke. To Seymour's surprised, it continues to do this day in and day out. The man had tried many times in putting the smoke out, but how do you stop when you can't find the cause? The kiseru continues to sit on its stand above the fire place, releasing a small trail of black smoke above it.

XXXPersoanlity//
XXXClance's personality changes between being an excito and an anhelo.

XXXAs an excito, Clance is hyperactive. He acts like a boy who's running on caffeine, and since he's new to the world, he's also very curious of his surroundings. The plague wants to interact with others, he wants to learn, and he wants to explore. Clance’s speech at the time will be quick and very blunt (he will not know how to filter before speaking his mind). He does not realize he worries Seymour when he's not within the keeper's sight, and he is pretty much a child.

XXXHowever, as Clance grows, the plague will grow out of his hyperactivity. He will begin to understand his keeper a bit more over time, and stop worrying the man as much. The Plague will also become very observant as it helps him figure out how Seymour is feeling (the keeper only does certain actions when he's anxious, etc). Clance will not lose his love of meeting others and exploring, but while exploring, he will remember to tell his keeper or to keep within Seymour's sight. Clance will pick up his smoking habit as an anhelo(he will not be smoking as an excito, he's too small).

XXXI got most of my ideas for Clance's excito stage from children in general, and what I think my first impression of smoking would feel like (I'm allergic to smoke). And then Clance's Anhelo stage is more related to smoking and him learning though experiences.

XXXHobbies//
XXXSmoking. It's just something Clance would do. He is a kiseru after all!

XXXLikes//
XXXThe scent of smoke (it doesn't matter rather the smoke came from a burning house or a lite cigar, as long as it's smoke, it's good).

XXXDislikes//
XXXCooking. Clance fails at cooking and no matter how many times he tries, any cuisine he attempts to make gets burnt one way or another.

XXXConcept Ideas//
XXX✖ Clance holding a cigarette as an anhelo.

Extras...//

This is for containing extra information I might have for Seymour or Clance that I cannot find room to put in. Some of them seem too random to put in since the facts usually pop up at the top of my head.

Seymour//
XXXOne// Seymour has a strange way of eating sandwiches. He likes to eat the bread first before what's in the middle.

Clance//
XXXOne// He loves taking naps. His napping position consist of his head and waist up covered in either a blanket or a massive amount of pillows, revealing only his lower body. He likes it when the sun shines on his feet since it feels really nice.

Random Situations//
XXXTwo// Random idea of the 'Curious Excito' trying to figure out what a bear trap is and Seymour freaking out.

I'll be honest, Seymour seems... very weak for Shyregoed; it's a torrential place, where one has to kill to earn one's keep, especially if they're not stationed in a religious building or stationed at one of the bases. If he's living on his own, he'll need to chop his own wood, kill his own food, all of those things, so how can he do it if he freaks out so badly at the slightest provocation?

Just as well, there's a lot of "he does this, but doesn't know why" floating around; it would probably be good to flesh that out. If he has an assumption about anything, such as why he's so thin or why he doesn't like smoke, then that's one thing but a reason still needs to be provided, whether he knows the true reason or not. The smoke relating to his parents dying in a fire seems pretty obvious. The fact that Seymour seems to even know what a metabolism is, probably isn't. The setting is VERY medieval, and science is only just starting to have a real place in the world, so things like metabolisms and immune systems and such? Totally new to people and I doubt the vast majority even know what they're called, let alone how they function. I understand he's a scholar, but again, Shyregoed's a really rough place to be and personal libraries and such, even professional libraries, are pretty sparse.

I'd like to understand more about Seymour's "freak outs" as well; how does he act during them, what would be the modern clinical name for such a reaction in him, anything and everything you can possibly give. As much information as possible is what we like!

The fact that he's thin worries me about; I mean, not every person who lives in Shyregoed is going to be built like a viking, but again, he's probably got to do his own menial labor and do more than sit on his butt and read all day, so why doesn't he seem to have any muscle mass or anything? He could just have a swimmer's/athletic build but he can't be skin and bones, he'd die in a matter of days.

And truly, while I LOVE the idea of a Kiseru and understand Seymour's devotion to his grandfather, if he hates smoke so much, why would he bother keeping the kiseru around to begin with? Surely there is something else of his grandfather's that he could have held onto and not freaked out about. I think this might be a case of awesome Plague, ill fitting guardian; I DON'T mean to throw Seymour out, but I think he could use some work, especially in terms of fleshing out. More specifically, I wonder if he should live somewhere other than Shyregoed, 'cause it's super easy to get lost and die.

As far as Clance goes, I don't really see any issues. The way he likes laying with the blanket is a funny and cute quirk, and who doesn't like incense? Though the fact that he cares about his guardian but constantly makes him freak out by smoking/blowing smoke in his face is very contradicting. Do you have any ideas of what alignment you might want for him?

Aha! New ideas for Seymour!

I didn't really have a good base for Seymour...AT ALL. His personality was giving me a lot of trouble to begin with, and now with the critique it gives me a little more information to how to play with his character (I only knew Shyregoed was covered in snow and such so... -fail-). I'll probably end up rewriting his entire personality and I know I need to explain more on certain parts now.

Thank you Snoof!

If you're hoping for him to live in a place with snow, maybe he can live very close to the edge of Shyregoed but still in Helios limits? I'm sure snow pours in from the above region, but Helios seems to be more his style :B

Oh~? Thank you Snoof! :'D

I might put up an extra character so I can chose between the two.

EDIT// I doubt Clance would make a good Locos with how much of a jerk he can be. However, it would be extremely amusing. %D -smack'd- He fits more as an Infitialis, but WE'LL SEE!

The only current Locos, Adal, is an immense asshat xD He's really meeaaaan, so it'd be weird to see a trend of that... Mmm -thinks-

I'd say Infi's are the most common, but they can still be quite, quite diverse. We need more of ANY alignment, though, so I guess it doesn't matter which direction you go, but Quietus and Locos are pretty dang rare compared to the Infitialis, if that helps any.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 27, 2010 8:12 pm

Hmmmm, we'll see! Either alignment would end with Clance being a jerk. I would feel sorry for Seymour if Clance goes Infi and then go all a*****e about it on the keeper.

With the 180 degree turn of Seymour's personality, I think he's less of a target, but still an easy one. He now reminds me of a giant teddy bear!
