Having just escaped the jaws of almost certain adoption Priscilla bobbed about the ocean, following the currents aimlessly. She liked to think of herself as free and untamed as the sea herself, really, and just as proud. She laughed at the sentiment just as she did whenever it came into her mind. It really was a presumptuous thought. Who looks out at the infinite, powerful sea, somehow all know and non judgmental, giving and kind, yet unmerciful and irrespective of age, status, and sex and identifies with it? Perhaps she was just a pretentious little thing, just like her equally vain mother said.
The current swirled her left and right and she swooped with it, hummed and bopping just like she always did. It was a nonsense tune, and she didn't really know what notes she was hitting really, but she was alone, so it didn't really matter. She only popped out of her stupor when a splash of color hit her peripheral vision. She whipped around in the current and swam against it to get a better view of the reef she had happened upon. Checking to make sure there were no predators around, she bobbed out of the current and over to the reef. Being so dark, she sort of stuck out like a sore hoof, but she didn't mind much. It just meant she was that much more exotic. She latched onto a branch of the reef and lipped at some sea weed distractedly as she looked around. She wasn't so used to being so close to the surface, and light filtered in from above clearly. She smiled despite herself and looked back at the neon reef, all to herself. She sighed contentedly, and went to eating for real.
