It was quite often that he remembered his puppyhood friend, Jayel. They had met once upon a time, when Xavi had wandered too far from Gomorrah lines and found himself lost. Well, too lazy to continue looking for home, anyways. And he'd met her, the strange little orange-marked girl who seemed to dote on him. They had met often after that, sometimes just talking (although Xavi sometimes didn't have alot to say) and sometimes just hanging out.

Over the months, his body had lengthened into a lanky, shiny-furred teenage beast, too big to cover with mud. So he had to deal with the glaring obvious-ness of his pelt. Long legs, long tail, oversized ears, he was quite the sight. Not that he wouldn't be without the shine, but darn it. He sighed as he padded along. He hadn't seen Jayel for awhile and was looking for his friend. She'd been his closest friend, other than his sister, Teita, but still he couldn't bring himself to tell her about his love for the alpha's son, Squall... Squall who'd disappeared from Gomorrah lands months ago. He'd only met him the one time, but geez... His heart fluttered as he walked. Ah well. Maybe when he was older, he could set off and find Squall again. Then the older boy would never be rid of him!

Throwing his head back, he let loose a howl. A howl for Jayel.

User ImageIn the time she'd met and know Xavi, Jayel had grown fond of the shiny male wolf. Sure, he was a bit weird at times, and his tendencies didn't exactly lean toward females, but they'd developed an interesting friendship of sorts. Jayel was always waiting for his call, never once missing it because of learning to hunt or being to far away. On the contrary, she often practiced her skills nearer his pack so she could get there faster and surprise him with a rabbit or a baby dear.

Today was no different. Her mother had set her pups loose to practice or play, or whatever, so her and her father could have sometime alone. Things were tense between them; and Jayel didn't think it was going to go over very well in the end. She sensed that things were about to change and her she was stressed.

His call echoed in the still air and caused her to look up from her prey. Looking back she noticed it was gone and she uttered a curse before starting to race towards their meeting spot, her own howl echoing, matching his.

Jayel had changed from that chubby pup she was. She was thinner, taller and longer, putting a bit of muscle on from wandering and tagging along with her siblings on impossible rock climbs and races. She could race a rabbit and win now, she knew that for a fact. Her fur had darkened a bit, the swirls more pronounced, the orange starting to shrink in size, but still stand out in color. Yes, she knew she was a pretty wolfess, but the one wolf she wanted to notice, didn't. Or, if he did, he never said it.

She ran toward Xavi and skidded to a stop, making a cool turn to stand beside him, panting heavily before grinning. "Hey."

Xavi's face was blank for a moment, almost as if he were afraid she wouldn't come, up until the point where she galloped out of the forest and rambled on towards him. Of course, being a rather stoic male (or perhaps he was just lazy) he didn't make much movement as she spun to stand beside him, although his green eyes gleamed slightly and his tongue lolled from his grinning mouth. "'Lothere. You got here pretty quick. What, ya were waiting for me to call you?" His head tipped ever-so-slightly, tail giving a lone wag before he set off towards the forest, knowing she'd follow.

And follow him she did, despite she was still panting for breath. It was always silent communication with the two. Jayel couldn't have been happier with the way their relationship was developing. She was a girl with a silly crush on her best friend since puppyhood. Nothing could change that! One day, she hoped he would feel the same way for her. Naturally, she didn't want to ask, so instead she answered his question.

"Of course I was. It's boring without you, Xavii. Don't you know anything?" A laugh filled the air as she brushed past him to hit him in the nose with her tail.

This seemed to puzzle Xavi, though he didn't move any faster, even as she whacked him across the muzzle. Why was he fun? Him? Mr. Slothful, Mr. Too-Lazy-To-Make-An-Effort? Fun? He raised a brow and scoffed it off to it just being the fact that 1) Jayel was a girl or 2) Jayel's life was just plain boring. "If you say so," he mumbled with a hearty laugh. His voice had developed into a deep rumble, one fit for a giant of a wolf. He wondered briefly what his blood father looked like, and then shoved it from his mind with gusto and began a choppy lope after her. "What do do today, darling?"

"Today, my amazingly deep voiced friend, we're going to be exploring a cave not too far from the waterfall. I have always wanted to go in it, but! Me, being me, am not ...comfortable going in there by myself." She nodded self importantly and continued to pad towards the waterfall. Jayel had a feeling Xavii would know where it was. She also knew he know was thinking she was a giant baby for not wanting to go by herself. After all! She was a wolf, who would mess with that?
