Maisie was sitting comfortably on the arm of a bench, legs arched up and torso pressed flat against the back of the chair. She was playing with the little paper flower that Jayden had so kindly made for her. He always got her presents and gifts that made her bubbily and joyful, and she didn't want to leave him. No way, not for the whole world. Her eyes were dazed and glossy as she admired the handy work of the flower, gently petting the false petals.
Caroline was walking through the park, her hands behind her back, skirt blowing in the spring breezes. One cat was on her mind right now, and that was Brendon. The charmingly handsome and boyish charm of his caught her attention. She hadn't met another feline that reminded her so much of her home in the south. He seemed like such a gentleman despite the heart wrenching pain he was going through. The more they talked, the more Caroline wanted to be friends, or more, with him. She started humming to herself, one of the songs he sang to her. He'd said he sang it often to Maisie, at one point, but she didn't care. It was a catchy tune.
The shorthair was playing lightly with the flower when all the sudden a ghostly song made it's way to her ears, causing them to perk along with the hair on her tail. She felt a slight fear bottling up inside of her so she quickly placed the flower back in her hair, and jumped off of the bench. That song. She knew exactly where it was from. She hadn't spoken to Brendon since that unfortunate misunderstanding. He had kissed her and freaked her out so much she almost left the Casino for good. Her eyes continued to wander but soon they found that the song was only coming from a girl with lovely red hair and cute apparel. "Oh, oh thank god..." She let out a sigh of relief. She was afraid that it might have been Brendon and that she'd have to talk to him about what had happened. She wasn't ready for that yet.
Words caused her ears to perk up and she blinked a little bit, yellow eyes focusing on a rather cute female ahead of her. Oh! She had on such cute clothes, and.... what was that in her hair? Putting on a happy smile, Caroline moved over to the girl with a spring in her step, still singing, her voice putting a country twang on it. "Hi, darling! I couldn't help but hear your voice and got curious!" She said, her smile never once fading.
Maisie noticed that the girl had heard her words of relief because her eyes turned to give her more attention than she would have liked. A small gasp escaped her lips and her feet struggled to take a few steps back but she only ended up hitting her head on the bench seat. "Oomph..." she rubbed the back of her head and sighed at her stupidity. Finally, the girl made it over to her and began speaking. A nervous bubbling sensation began to rumble in her stomach so she nervously crossed an arm over her stomach and held her elbow shyly. "H-hello..." she simply spoke and looked the girl up and down. She seemed nice enough. "W-where did you learn that song?"
"A guy friend, Brendon, sang it to me once!" She said, seeing how nervous the other feline was. Caroline backed up a bit to give her room and rocked on her feet, tilting her head to the side. She looked so shy and cute! Also more full figured than herself. Caroline was jealous! She couldn't make herself more full figured if she wanted too. Her eating habits were odd. "Do you know it, too?"
Maisie was grateful that she took a few steps back but that wasn't even enough. To get a more comfortable location she jumped up on the bench seat and peeked down at her from the edge. This was much better. So much better. She felt like she could hide up here if she needed to. Some big bad adult she was. Instead of twenty one she acted like she was five years old. "I know it..." She heard that Brendon had sang the song for her to so maybe she was Brendon's new interest. That was a relief. Maybe Maisie didn't have anything to worry about anymore. Well, at least with Brendon. "How do you know Brendon?"
So she knew the song and Brendon? Well, that just made her day. Caroline gave a huge smile and a laugh. "I happened upon him while he was down and depressed. I talked to him and tried to cheer him up! It wasn't too much longer before we just got to talking about ourselves and music." Her tail flicked a bit more and her curiosity was piqued. Sure, Maisie was acting strange, wanting to be up high, but Caroline wouldn't say anything about that. "How d'you know him?"
Maisie bit her lip at the last question. How exactly did she know him. He was really nice at first, and super sweet. He showed her that song and then was eating Holli's food, making her laugh. Then came the tickling, and then the wrestling, and then the pinning down and kissing. That had been to much for her. "Uh... I met him through a friend. Holli. She lives at the Casino with us." She tilted her head curiously and inched a bit closer to the ledge of the bench and instead of peeking down at her she simply looked, not in a very secretive way. "Why was he depressed?" she grew a little concerned for her friend. She thought it was safe to say they were friends. They sure got friendly with each other. Well, Brendon did.
She nodded a bit and took that in before giving a sad kind of smile. "He kissed a girl and she didn't like it. He said he ruined his chance with her. He couldn't see the silver lining. That's all I did, really, was put it back into perspective. I told him there'd be a girl out there for him. One that would kiss him back. If it was to early for the girl I could understand, but he said she didn't give him much of an explanation." She didn't sound like she and an opinion on it. Caroline didn't know who the girl was, so she couldn't judge.
Maisie bit her lip as Carol took her time to explain the situation with Brendon. A pain of guilt was starting to bubble up in her gut, twisting and knotting up her insides. Did she really make Brendon feel that bad? She thought that maybe he just kissed her because he was a player or something like that. Isn't that how lead singers of bands were? Plus, after she got scared he tried to blame it on her so that even upset her more cause that wasn't the case. "Well, m-maybe I should t-talk to him then and give him explanation..." It was obvious that Carol had no clue that it was Maisie who had been the victim of Brendon's lips but with that being said it would be pretty obvious now.
Caroline blinked at that and gave a little frown before shrugging. "You could. But you look scared to death of doing it, darlin'. Maybe give it a little more time to die down. He's only just feelin' better. If memories get brought back up it won't take much for him ta get down on his luck again. And I'm not saying that 'cause I like him. I'm saying that 'cause it's true. And you look ready to cry." She offered her arms to the other girl, still not judging. She couldn't. It wasn't her place to judge what others did.
She bit her lip and felt her eyes starting to get a bit teary as the curled eared feline told her that it just might bring Brendon back down if she tried to talk to him. Did she really hurt him that much? It wasn't intentional at all. She absolutely hated making people upset and depressed and felt like she deserved the same exact thing if she was the cause if the problem. When the southern girl spoke of her teary eyes Maisie quickly tried to wipe away her emotions, sniffling. "I-I didn't mean to m-make him feel like that... I j-just... h-he moved w-way to fast and I ... I was scared... and ... n-no guy had ever done that b-before..." she babbled on slowly, stuttering over her words. When she saw the girl reach out her arms and slinked down off the bench and slid into them, needing a shoulder to cry on.
Caroline's arms wrapped around the girl and she made little soothing noises, rocking her back and forth. For all she knew Maisie was older than her, but even the olders cats could cry. It pained her when Maisie said she didn't mean it, her curled ears went back and she rested her cheek on the other's head. "I can see you didn't mean too. But a guy like him is delicate. He might act like a tough guy, but that's usually to mask that he's a sensitive guy. Don't worry about it right now. He's on the mend, so you just be happy about that. Soon the two of you will be friends again and hanging out just like before." She was a little jealous of Maisie, that Brendon cared so much for the cat, but that was how it was. Caroline knew she couldn't do anything to change that right now. All she was doing was picking up both of their pieces and putting them back together.
Maisie sniffled and nuzzled into the stranger even more so as she listened to her rather soothing words. They seemed to calm her down a bit. However, when the silver furred cat spoke of Brendon and her hanging out again she shook her head slowly in protest. "H-he probably hates me now... why would he want to hang out with somebody who only makes him feel bad?" She She thought this was logical. Why would you want to put yourself through something like that? Being around somebody who makes you so depressed sounded like a lot of something that nobody would want to be apart of.
Caroline pulled back and pushed Maisie's bangs from her face before smiling brightly. "It's because he feels like this that lets me know he still likes you, even if it isn't like he did before. I think the two of you would still be friends when this boils down. And he doesn't hate you. Hate is such a strong word. Maybe disappointed, a little hurt, but never hate." She laughed a bit and tapped Maisie's nose. "I'm Caroline."
Maisie shrugged her shoulders a bit from the vulnerable state that Caroline had placed her in while pulling back. She didn't like eye contact. Especially with strangers, but the female seemed to be explaining something of great importance, so it was vital that Maisie listened closely. She gave a soft sigh. "M-maybe yo-you could tell me when he stops liking me... and then we could be friends again..." She swallowed down the lump in her throat and when she introduced herself a wave of relief washed over her. Names seemed to make everything a little less strange between them. "M-my name is Maisie. Thank you Caroline... I... I hope he notices you..." She knew that the girl liked him because she straight out told her. They seemed like they would be a much better match.
Caroline shrugged a bit and laughed, letting Maisie go completely. "Maisie is such a pretty name. And I'll let you know, but I don't know if he'll notice me. If he doesn't, that's fine. Being friends is good enough, too! I like having lots of friends." She nudged Maisie with her elbow a bit and grinned. "You're my first female friend that wasn't a kitten. Feel special?" She was clearly trying to lighten the mood, her tail flicking this way and that.
Maisie gave a final sniffle before wiping the last traces of sadness away from her expression. Sure, there was a ping of pain in the back of her mind but nothing that would visually show she was upset. "Thank you... Caroline is such a pretty name too. And I like you accent. It's very cute." She offers up her compliments with a sincere smile. "I'm sure he will notice you though... you're so pretty. He'd be stupid not to..." She bit her lip at that and tried not to feel down on her luck. "I'm your FIRST female friend? Geeze... you need to get out more, hehe."
"See, that's the problem! I get out and meet no one but kittens. Theyre adorable kittens, sure, but I like others my own age better. I can connect more!" She smirked and moved over to the bench ant sat down, stretching out with a pop in her back. "Mmm! My accent is Southern.. Grew up in the south in the country."
Maisie eyed the cat as she leaped up onto the bench. Her eyes wandered around as she was left alone on the ground. She didn't want to be alone now. She climbed up to the bench and sat beside Carol. "You're from out of town? So am I, but I didn't come that far. Just the next town over. It's tiny." She smiled and tried to recall the days when she'd just walk around without many cats in her way. "Kittens are cute... I've met a few. Aki is a cutie, but... he has a few ... hm... problems. And Falain. Oh she's the cutest little thing ever. She calls me a ninja. Hehe." Giggles lightly as she recalls the faces to match the names.
"Yeah?" She nodded a bit and laughed. "I met Aki. He's... Yeah. A good kid, and well..." Caroline shook her head a bit more and looked to Maisie with a small smile. Now she knew the girl who broke Brendon's heart, but she couldn't feel any malice or anger toward her. She was a good girl who never meant to hurt him. It was a mistake, obviously. "You're a ninja?"
Maisie blushed at her question and shrugged her shoulders, "I suppose I am. At least to her. You see... I was sitting on a wall, playing with my toy/bomb thingy I made... and well, the young girl freaked. She screamed at me and ran away. I didn't want her to be afraid of me so I went after her to try and calm her nerves. I don't like when people are afraid of me. I'm really nothing to be afraid of." She shifted slightly to get a bit more comfortable before continuing her story. "And so... when I caught up to her my friend Jayden had managed to get a hold of her. She ended up pointing out how we liked each other... and well, she was the start of our relationship really. Falain was the princess, I was the ninja, and Jayden, hehe, he was the futuristic swordsman. Heh, cause he has this huge glowstick staff thing that looks like a sword to her I guess." She shrugged her shoulders softly.
Caroline couldn't help but laugh at that story, picturing every word she said. Kittens were cute like that! It was strnage how someone else could bring a couple together instead of the couple working it out on their own. "Well, congratulations on your new relationship and I can see how she'd think you're a ninja! I have no such weapon, and I don't know if I want one like that..." In all honestly, Caroline didn't want to fight, period. She wanted everyone to get along with each other.
Maisie bit her lip and shrugged, "It's only for my own protection.... and besides that... I don't think I could ever use it on anybody... I guess it's mostly for... intimidation." She nodded confidently but felt her cheeks heating up at the congrats she got on her new relationship. "Thank you! He's really sweet... and he doesn't make me feel all nervous like most people do... he made me this..." she pointed up to her paper flower and then to her glowsticks on her wrists, "and these too... he spoils me." She giggled happily and kicked her legs out.
She laughed softly and nodded, her ears flicking. Brendon didn't spoil her, but they'd just met that once. So Caroline wasn't jealous of upset. She was truly happy that love like that was around. It was a bit sad Brendon hadn't been a part of it, but it just wasn't meant to be. "He makes very fine things indeed! But, I think I'm going to have to get going, Maisie. I need to meet up with someone about a special something!" She gave a wink and got off the bench, stretching her arms out once more.
Maisie bit her lip as the girl jumped off and spoke of her early departure. "You're leaving? Already? .... okay... um... see you around Carol. Thanks for talking to me about it. It was something I needed to know." She stood up and jumped off of the bench, landing lightly on her feet. "Buh bye..." she leaned in and gave the girl a quick hug, something she wasn't to used to.
Carol would return the hug before ruffling Maisie's hair. "I'll be around this area every day, so look for me sometime!" With that, she waved and walked along the path again until she rounded the corner and out of view.
