It was late. It was dark. Ares was on patrol.
Perfect.
As much as Ares would have loved to hang around Selene all night, the girl had a family who might not appreciate a forced adoption of a second child. She had been separated from her ruler for too long, and like a teacher's pet returning to class after winter break, Ares was ready to remind the Queen of the Black Moon just why she was such an indispensable part of the team. That meant constant patrolling, constant a**-kicking, and constant youma-killing tally.
She kept the figure written in a notebook.
So far on this particular night, Sailor Ares had saved two civilians and dusted one youma. It was a slow night; this figure was a paltry sum. Heeled boots clicked along the sidewalk, flat gray eyes scanned the horizon. She needed to find Wiseman. She needed to crush the bones in his thieving hands. Ares wasn't much of an artist, but during the insufferable classes of Crystal Academy, she found herself absent-mindedly doodling his untimely death in the margins of her meticulous notebook.
Sailor Ares paused at the corner of the street. Up ahead, there was a park. Some sort of festival had happened in the past few days, but all that remained now was a hedge maze carved into the overgrown bushes of the park. It was something for kids to get lost in while their parents perused handmade goods. Ares stared at the entrance to the puzzle, but made no move to enter it.

Speaking of notebooks, Zink was on his way to that very hedge maze. He flipped though the pages of his note book triple checking the notations he had made concerning events that were scheduled by gossip for this evening, at least one of his antagonizers from school -should- be here tonight in roughly one hour on the belief that he was meeting a girl from Crystal, whom of course, did not exist.
He checked off some of his notes and shoved the notebook into his over the shoulder bag before stepping off into an alley to 'power up' and slipped back out again fully confidant that his plan should go smoothly and one more mysterious disappearance could be added to the rosters.
He paused and frowned slightly as he realized, there was someone there ahead of him.

The moment a Negaverse Lt. powered-up in her vicinity, every hair on Sailor Ares's body stood on end. She could feel the dark energy, the corruption poisoning the starseed, whispering to her. She turned, slowly, and saw opposite her a very short boy in a high-collared coat. There would be no sneak attack in this battle strategy. They had both seen each other and were standing at opposite ends of an alley like two cowboys in a stand-off.
A duel. Ares was pleased.
A confident smirk crossed the Senshi of Smoke's lips. "Lovely evening, isn't it?" She squared her feet with her shoulders, ready to move if he so much as flinched. "But business first -- where is Wiseman?" The Negaverse were creatures of dark energy, and therefore on the list of people who she could attack without provocation.
Besides, who was to say this one did not know the thief of their great crystal?
