[setting is in high-mountains~!]
Brrr. The waterbuck looked a little chilly, but he bore it well. There was an urge for the god!waterbuck to investigate this area for any woods or forests that lingered. Not much could live in a rocky, chilly, harsh area like this, but for some reason Yggdrasil had felt the urge to make sure. If there was something here, even small, he wanted to make sure there was adequate protection put in place. He cared about the woods more than anything.
Romping around in this form was much easier in these lands. Flying could help, but if he wanted to stop at a small ridge, well, that was going to be pretty impossible.
He leaped up to a broader area, and paused for a rest. He was unused to the thinner air, and needed a short break.

There was an invader in their home! The small Ibex knew he was no match for any lion or clawed animal, he had been told countless times to hide if they happened to come around him on his journeys with Nquma, but she never said anything about other animals that looked a little like him! Isidomu watched the orange and white animal for a little while, keeping low as he had seen the goddess do from time to time to avoid conversations with other animals. Less like an Ibex and more like, well, a lion.
When the stranger was close enough, he was just about ready to charge, stopped short when familiar fangs lightly clasped his tail to keep him in place. Looking straight up, he grinned at a sullen face staring down at him.
Nquma was not amused.
“What’s going on?” she demanded, her eyes shifting forward. “oh, uh…. Hello…” she offered weakly to the waterbuck.

Ygg's ear twitched, flopping against his horn as he eyed the...unusual pair. He was trying to asses the situation, but it seemed like he wouldn't be able to accurately guess what was going on. The appearance of her was striking, if familiar to his own true form. It wasn't taken lightly, lions wearing the horns of preybeasts, even if they were part of their frame.
He let his tail sway a bit, debating exactly how to reply. She was not one to take lightly.
"Hello," he replied with a bob of his head, his tongue testing the air around him. Seemed fine, if just a touch tense. "I was just investigating this area, curious if there were woods around here."

This little waterbuck was going to think she was so weird-looking! With her horns and the fur she wore contradicting each other. Was she a friend or foe of prey beasts? Oh, how silly she was not to think to create an illusion while she was out with her Isidomu! How she loathed the judgmental looks cast in her direction when she wasn’t in her mortal appearance.
“W-woods?” she repeated, looking around the mountain-range, “no… there are no woods here…. Just a few small shrubs every now and again…. Sorry…” why was it her fault that there were no trees in the area? She was there for the glaciers. Honestly there could have been some plants somewhere she just didn’t know about.
Isidomu slipped away from Nquma, rushing over to the waterbuck. “You’re weird-looking!” the child proclaimed, “what are you?! You want to spar?!”

Ygg was disappointed. He thought that there might be something, even sparse, but he apparently thought wrong. That meant that he didn't really have a reason to be up here any longer, at least for the moment. He could always create a forest here, but he wouldn't want to mess up the ecosystem too much. He wanted to reply to her, as a thanks for letting him know, when the ibex threw him a challenge.
Ygg's ears swiveled back and forward, unsure if he had heard him right. "Spar?" he repeated, and laughed. "I, uh....I don't know about that..." He didn't spar as it was, and would probably lose at the first headbutt!

“Spar spar!” Isidomu insisted, pushing against the waterbuck’s leg. He was too small, however, to do anything other than make tracks, his body moving without getting anywhere at all. Seeing this, Nquma offered a faint sigh, shaking her head in embarrassment.
“Please forgive him,” she said faintly, “he’s not… well, he’s young.” And stupid, but she couldn’t say that and leave a very good impression of herself, now could she? “Do… do you like trees? Or… if you’re lost I could try to help you find your way. I haven’t been around the whole mountain…” she offered after a moment, sitting herself down carefully. Rambling seemed to be the only thing she was particularly good at.

He lowered his head to sniff at the very excited young ibex. He thought he'd still lose, but only because he would get quite dizzy from a simple blow. The air was thinner up here, and he wasn't used to it at all.
He pondered on how to reply to her, beyond the faint smile and nod that he gave her regarding liking trees. Well...hopefully it would be taken well.
"I'm a little lost," he admitted, "though I know I could find my way back eventually." He worried again for a moment, but decided to keep himself in this form. "I'm a protector of woods, forests as they can be called as well." His tail twitched, feeling so much like his 'regular' form one, only shorter. "I thought perhaps there might be one up here, but it's easy to be mistaken. They grow in odd places at times."

Nquma frowned, feeling a little like she had said something to offend him somehow. Had she upset him by asking him if he liked trees? He only nodded… he didn’t say anything. Oh Gods, she was terrible! How could she not even know how she had offended him?! Really, she just shouldn’t talk to anyone.
Ever.
The worried, paranoid lioness found herself extremely relieved when he spoke again, feeling as though a weight had been lifted from her wingless shoulders. “Ah… I understand… I look over glaciers myself… I don’t have to worry about them growing anywhere. Only melting.” She kept her eyes on the ground, trying not to make eye contact and seem threatening in some way.
Isidomu busied himself by pushing against the other’s leg with his head, his hooves moving without him getting anywhere.

Yggdrasil was charmed by the young ibex. He had quite a vitality of youth, and was sure that he was quite a handful for....for...? Wow, how rude of him. He lowered his head for a moment, muttering a small apology before dismissing the illusion of a waterbuck.
"Ah, sorry," he muttered again. "I didn't mean to fool, I just normally wander around in that form." He stayed in the same position, glancing down at the little ibex again. Hopefully he wouldn't be too upset; Ygg did still have horns!
"I'm Yggdrasil," he nodded. "Woods," he chuckled.

It was actually a relief to see that this waterbuck was not ordinary. And, really, it explained a heck of a lot. A random prey beast wandering far and alone just looking for trees in strange places? It was probably something she should have picked up on before. Of course no normal creature would go to those lengths. Only the truly invested, the Gods, spent their time in ways like that. Another mark against her conduct.
“I’m sorry!” she huffed, “I thought you were… um…. It’s nice to meet you. The real you, I mean. I’m… Nquma…” She’d already said that she was watching over glaciers, no need to repeat herself.
The female looked down at the snow, her eyes flickering towards her Ibex friend. Isidomu seemed more pleased than ever with the animal they were speaking to- he loved lions with horns! His almost-mother was one, after. “That’s Isidomu,” Nquma added after a moment, “he’s kind of stupid.”

Yggdrasil laughed. "I'm always the real me," he explained. "It's always much easier to wander through a forest looking like that than a lion. Even with the horns, it doesn't always go over well." And really, he wondered about the same up here. In some ways, at least, since there weren't too many other lions and predators as there were down in the flatter lands, where they ran rampant. She probably didn't have to "hide" herself too often up here.
He flopped down on the snow, a little tickled and startled about how cold it was. He wasn't used to the sensation, and so stayed where he was. "Does she always hide her face like that?" he asked quietly to Isidomu, since there were a little more at the same level now.

“I know what you mean…” Nquma said faintly, “I prefer looking as… mortal as possible, if only to keep away all the curious eyes. I don’t… really like… others staring at me.” She frowned and turned her eyes away, feeling a bit guilty that she complained about being stared at, and yet couldn’t find it in herself to look away from his God form. Was she that much of a hypocrite?
While she mused, her little Isidomu was busy investigating the new God who had flopped in the snow, having no problem invading the other’s personal space as he climbed awkwardly onto the other.
“She does!” he replied, mimicking the soft tone only to copy, not because he though he needed to be quiet, “she doesn’t like to look at animals… she’s a silly Ibex!”

Oof. Note to self, hooves were quite painful, even with a little one crawling around on you. He kept his complaints to himself, as it wasn't horribly painful. Just a new...experience. It made him realize that when disguised as a waterbuck, hooves could do just as much damage as his horns...waterbuck or deer horns, either one.
"You're certainly in a cold enough area that finding many to stare at you would be rare." He hadn't done much himself, but the little Ibex was keeping him quite entertained, and distracted. An unrelenting fuzzy ball of energy.

She smiled faintly. “Yes, this place is very peaceful. Though… it can make my little companion a little stir crazy, as you can see. I do hope he’s not hurting you. Isidomu, why don’t you come back over here and leave the poor male alone? He doesn’t need you bouncing on him.” Isidomu pouted, lying down in the snow beside the male in a display of civil disobedience.
Nquma sighed.
“Well… I hope I haven’t distracted you too long from your task,” she said softly to the other God, shifting awkwardly, “I know you must be busy.”

Yggdrail nodded. "Peaceful is good. He'll understand when he gets older, I'm sure." Though he was a lion, he felt like he acted more like a prey beast than a predator. It was a little disconcerting, but he was working through it.
Ygg shook his head. "No, no, sometimes it's good for a little distraction. Sorry myself to have barged in." He sort of had a habit of doing that, just only within forests and woods. Sigh. "I'm sure you've got enough to do yourself, especially with Isidomu being quite the pawful." Rebellious age, it looked like it, as Ygg stifled a chuckle.
"I hope to see you again sometime," he said as he stood to leave. She did seem more comfortable than in the beginning, but it was apparent that she was not used to company with gods. He didn't mind. "Have a good rest of the afternoon, and I hope that you stay happy up here."
And with that, he let his waterbuck form settle over him, and he trotted down the mountain to the forest below.
