Zee was exhausted--well, in truth, that was an understatement. His normally navy blue skin had faded to more of a gray tinge. He looked decidedly ill. He knew he had to tell Stasia. He had to; he couldn't pass this off as something he wasn't expecting. He pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and pushed his favorite speed dial button. "Hey Stasia," he said, before giving a yawn. "Do you think you could come over?" Another yawn. He was going to kill Matthias when this was over. "I've got something I need to tell you, and it can't be said over the phone." He took a moment to imagine someone having tapped into the phone line, and being able to listen to their conversation. "Bring Aesica--Devin wants to see her."
Devin was sitting next to his father, with the pretense of watching Spongebob Squarepants. He didn't seem to be paying the television any attention. He had his wooden sword out on his lap, clearly ready to protect Zee if anything tried to attack. It might have been that Devin sensed his father's weakness and knew the older elf needed the protection--or maybe he was protecting something else altogether.

Stasia paused a moment on the other end of the line. "Sure. I'll be over as soon as I can." She frowned slightly. She wanted to ask if everything was okay, but...she figured she could ask that when she saw him. "See you soon." she said, hanging up the old, cord-bound phone before heading off to grab her youngest and tell her older kids where she was going.
About five minutes later, the familiar black pickup truck pulled in front of the house. Yeah, you knew Stasia was worried when she actually bothered to drive somewhere other than work. After hopping out of the truck and managing to wrangle Aesica from the back carseat, she walked briskly up to the front door.
Aesica was not a happy camper. Mother was stressed, which meant her energy tasted funny, which meant she had not had her afternoon snack. And, as most babies tend to be, she was cranky without said snack. It was almost a wonder that holes hadn't melted into the door with how hard the little infant was glaring at it.

Zee shut his cell phone and stuffed it back into his pocket. Even that seemed to be an effort for the elf. His pointed ears twitched slightly as he heard a car pull up. "Devi, go answer the door," he said. He had to mentally prepare to be laughed at, he knew it. Once he explained what the Azoulais had done, he was certain Stasia would find it hilarious.
Devin obediently climbed down from his spot on the couch and made his way towards the door. He was dragging his sword behind him with his left hand. He opened the door. "Mommy!" he greeted with a smile. "Mommy! I mithed you!" Then the toddler seemed to remember why she was there in the first place. "Daddy no feel good," Devin explained, pointing towarrds the couch. "No be mean to him. Or I poke you." He lifted his sword to show her he meant business.

Stasia smiled at Devin, hugging him with her free arm. "I missed you too, kiddo." she said, smiling. She looked to the couch, then back down to Devin. "I won't be mean." she assured the boy, ruffling his hair before stepping further into the house. "Now, you be good, okay?" she murmured to her raven-haired daughter, sitting the little girl down on the floor to play before heading over to her fiance. "Hey Zee." she said softly, sitting next to him. "What's wrong?"
Aesica frowned in Zee's general direction, blaming her loss of snack on him. Stupid elf, having to go and get sick and worry Mother. Ugh. She sighed, ignoring the cartoons on the television as chewed thoughtfully on her doll's head.

Zee inhaled, and for a moment, it seemed like he was going to say something. Instead he sighed. "The Azoulais," he said at length. "They're what's wrong. They did this to me." It was all their fault. Their's and Matthias'. He gestured to his stomach and sighed, before leaning back against the couch. "I don't know what I did to deserve this."
Devin stared at Aesica for a moment, oblivious to the fact that his younger sister was in a bad mood. "We play?" he asked hopefully. Siblings were always good for playing. "I got toyth."

Stasia was about to ask what he meant. And then she noticed his stomach. And she couldn't help it. She snickered. "Oh, I'm so sorry Zee...." she said, giving him a gentle hug. She knew it wasn't a laughing matter, but come on. Zee, of all people, preggers? Hilarious. "You look really pale, though. Have you been to a doctor?" she asked, concerned.
Aesica looked at Devin before a small, plastic smile spread across her face. "Sure." she said softly, nodding. Hmm....Devin. She hadn't tried Devin's energy. And, while she was usually against eating "special" people, she could make an exception this once.

Zee frowned. "I knew you'd laugh," he muttered. "All Risa's said is that I'm pale due to bloodloss. I don't know how I'm losing so much--or where from." he shrugged. "I blame Matthias." He returned the hug, grudgingly. "I'll have Devin poke you with his sword if you make fun of me," he muttered. It was an empty threat, and a bad one. He yawned. "Stupid Azoulais... Kill them in their sleep."
Devin returned Aesica's smile. He offered her his hand. "I thow you my toyth!" he promised with a smile. "My room not far. I help you walk."

Stasia kissed Zee on the cheek, offering a sympathetic smile. "Maybe you should go see an actual doctor, maybe get a blood transfusion or something?" she suggested, concerned. "And I won't make fun of you.......much." The last word was whispered; oh, she'd so make fun of him when he was feeling better. But, for now, she'd refrain from doing so. She nodded at his last comment, obviously of the same opinion. Stupid orange haired brats...
Aesica smiled, nodding once as she took his hands. Almost instantaneously, she latched on to his energy, taking just enough to sate her hunger. "Th-thank you." she said, offering a more genuine smile. "Toys now?" She'd humor him for now.

"What's the point?" Zee asked, sighing. "If I get a blood transfusion, I'll just lose that too. I told you, I blame Matthias. Think the baby's got his genes... Or some vampire's." He gave another yawn. "Where else would it be going?" He paused, frowning slightly. Oh, he figured Stasia would be teasing him for months after this. "Really, don't make fun. I never teased you about Aesica. Just help me get rid of those brats."
Being the hyper-active toddler he was, Devin had energy to spare, and then some. He didn't seem to notice that he was losing it. "Kay, toyth!" he agreed, leading her to his bedroom. Well, it was more of a nursery. The room itself was blue, like the sky, the rug was a darker blue. Fluffy white clouds had been carefully painted on the ceiling, while the furniture set up seemed to be of a ship. A large toybox was at the end of the toddler's bed, in the shape of a treasure chest. He opened it with a smile. "Toyth! What we play with?"

"A blood transfusion or two would keep you a bit healthier, that's the point." the half-elf assured him. And it was really something when Stasia, of all people, encouraged someone to go to a doctor, considering her hatred of them. "And you can't go blaming everything on Matthias, Zee. And I won't tease you too badly." She smiled, hugging the dark elf. "But seriously, consider going to a hospital? You look like you're about to keel over...."
Aesica, after much tripping and slipping and muttered curses in Russian, found herself in Devin's room. "Um....I play with Dolly?" she suggested, holding up her rag doll.

Zee frowned. "I hate doctors," he muttered. "I'm fine, really. Once this...thing's out of me, I'll go back to the way I'm supposed to be." He couldn't blame Matthias for everything? Oh, if she only knew! "I blame him, because I'm carrying his child." He thought he had every right to blame the cursed fae. He returned her hug, and gave a small smile. "If going to the hospital makes you happy, I might just go."
Devin looked doubtful. "We play 'gether!" he told her. "I no like playing with dollieth. We play with thethe!" he gestured to toy cars, pirates, dragons, and various other things.

Stasia paused....and it was very clear she was trying to decide whether to laugh or to punch something. Augh! Cursed Azoulais! She'd SO get even with them! "I'll drive you to the hospital." she offered alongside a small smile. "I promise to go in with you and stay by your side to make sure you're okay."
Aesica looked at the other toys. "Dolly can be pirate. Or knight. Or race car driver." she said, frowning faintly. "She flexible. Likes trying new things." She didn't see what the problem was, nor why Devin would want to leave Dolly out.

Zee seemed hesitant. He really hated doctors, if only for one reason. Said reason was that doctors were known for using needles--and elves seemed to have a collective phobia of them. The healers he was used to didn't use needles--they didn't have to. "Alright," he agreed at last. "As long as you don't leave."
Devin was impressed. He had never thought dollies could do so much! He had always thought dollies were girly and gross and that the only thing they could do was giggle and cry. "Really? Dolly can be pirate?" He pulled out one of his pirate action figures, and held it out. "We gonna go on 'venture!"

Stasia hugged him gently, nodding. "Promise I won't leave. Cross my heart and hope to lose video games." For her, losing video games was worth than death. She loved her technological source of entertainment!
Aesica's frown eased away; she was glad he hadn't chosen to argue with her. "Onward, me hearty! To treasure, to adventure! T-to pilla...pillaging and rampage!" She made her Dolly say, holding the rag doll's arm out like it was pointing.

Zee rewarded his fiancee with a smile. He knew how much she liked video games. "Alright, then. I'll go with you--but only if you take me for a milkshake afterward." He did love his milkshakes--and he was honestly unaware that he had taken the air of a child asking for a sticker.
Devin smiled, dolls really could make good pirates! His sister hadn't been lying to him after all! "Arrr!" he his figure say. "We go pill-age!" He broke character for a moment, and stared at Aesica. "What pillage?"
