"You and me. Tonight. If you're busy, text me back! If you don't, I'm assuming it's a go! ♥ "
That was the text message that was promptly sent to Tanzanite's phone from Serandite, the captain now sitting on a very tall wall. She was swinging her legs back and forth, cheerfully humming to herself in her brand new upgraded uniform. She still couldn't believe it-- the perks of being a captain. Teleporting made her entire life easier, it was hard to go back to the days without instant teleportation. Not that she could use it as much as she would have liked, exhaustion taking over when she did.
Serandite was looking forward to meeting Tanzanite-- One of the first lieutenants she had met when she was a lieutenant herself. Serandite reflected nostalgically that many things had changed to the both of them since that initial meeting. Tanzanite especially, with that monster arm of hers. Serandite had heard the story of Tanzanite's new arm-- but other than the captain meeting, she knew very little of it. Must be troublesome to say the least.
"Tanz, the least you can do is be prompt." Serandite said aloud to nobody in particular-- denying the fact that she had never actually sent a specific time to Tanzanite.

One could scour the Negaverse top to bottom, but would be hard pressed to find two individuals more opposite than Tanzanite and Serandite. In fact, perhaps only Nealite and Uranophane could pose a threat to their title. Serandite, despite her corruption and the promotion to Captain - which Obby would have referred to as the “Immaculate What The ******** Happened? - was still a picture of youth and energy. From the roots of her pink hair to the tips of her fashionable shoes, it was difficult to imagine that Serandite was a corrupted Captain of the Negaverse, capable of things that would make a grown man shudder. It was almost impossible to think that Serandite, pretty as she was, would reach into your chest and snatch away your life without a single bat of those long lashes.
Tanzanite, however, had not been so fortunate.
Her hair was a disheveled mess as she stopped in the streets below Serandite's perch, braided with feathers and falling loose down her back. She had been pretty once, even beautiful, but her face now held the telltale signs of a disturbance that ran far deeper than a lack of sleep. Gray eyes, now staring silently up at the young Captain, were underlined by purple crescents. Her cheeks were too hollow, her frame too thin. Where she had once possessed the body of a dancer, the limbs she still had were now marked by scars and bruises. She'd always been tall, almost always thin, but now beneath the uniform her frame had begun to waste away into a rail-like thinness. For anyone who had known her as Aree Cadence – a girl who Tanzanite would deny was still a part of her – it was a shocking transformation.
“Punctuality. Not my strong suit.”

In fact, the only thing that could be more opposite in the negaverse would be Linarite's blue hair and Serandite's pink one. Other than that, there was probably nothing else. How Serandite had captained up-- well, that was anybody's guess. The details of usually captaining up varied and differed from member to member. Serandite was sitting there, wondering how much later Tanzanite would be, nearly falling off in surprise to the flat answer to her question.
“Punctuality. Not my strong suit.”
Serandite immediately looked towards the source of the voice-- warm brown eyes landing on the familiar voice-- Tanzanite. The glee in her voice was obvious as she leaped down, landing delicately in front of Tanzanite's still form with a practiced turn of her heel.
"Obviously not. You don't seem to be taking care of yourself either." Serandite said, concern showing in her voice. She didn't know Tanzanite as well she would have liked-- but that didn't mean that Serandite had any lesser concern for her. She started digging through her skirt, lifting it to reveal a bunny bag underneath. When she unzipped it, you could see it brimming with candy and sweets.
"You're thinner than a stick. Here, have some candy." She pulled out a grape flavor lollipop for Tanzanite, the light purple color going nicely with her hair. "You should come over for dinner sometime. I'm not the worst cook you could run into, if you're worried about that." Serandite looked over Tanzanite's bruises and dark bags, the lieutenant she had met and the captain before her were worlds away. Oppositely, it seemed that Serandite hadn't changed at all.

Tanzanite looked at the candy, and it might as well have been rat poison for the look it put on her face. The corners of her lips pulled down slightly, one brow raising. The declining twist of her head shook several strands of hair into her face, and she clawed them away with the purple-painted nails of her human hand. The other twitched towards Serandite, but relaxed as Tanzanite clicked her tongue. It sounded like a command given to a disobedient canine. For all intents and purposes, that was exactly what it was. The arm fell to her side, but the leathery skin seemed to twist around the muscles as though itching to attack.
“I'm fine,” she said, and the words were no surprise. Of all the things Tanzanite ever claimed to be, 'fine' certainly topped the list. She could have been bleeding from her eyes with her guts pouring out of her and the last words she spoke while choking on her own blood probably would have been I'm fine. Possibly <******** you. It was a fifty-fifty chance, really.
“That explains a lot,” Tanzanite murmured, eyes on the bag full of candy, “Don't you have a mother or something? Your teeth are going to rot out of your ******** head.” What seemed like legitimate concern was balanced out by her willingness to drop the F-bomb in front of a girl she has always assumed was twelve years old. If someone told Tanzanite that Serah was only two years her junior, she would have either laughed or punched them in the face for being a lying sack of s**t. Again, fifty-fifty.
“You got promoted,” it was spoken without the sarcastic twist Obsidian might have given it, loud out in the air as nothing other than simple fact, “But you've got a long way to go before you earn their respect, Captain.” No elaboration was made to further define 'them', and none would be, “So come on. I'll control myself the best that I can.”
Tanzanite, of course, wasn't making any promises. She stood with her legs shoulder-width apart, assumed a defensive stance, and nodded. In interest of fairness, she was giving the younger Captain the first attack.

Obviously, Tanzanite didn't want the candy. Serandite busied herself for a second, tucking the candy back into her pocket. "My teeth are fine." She replied, ignoring the question of parental guidance. She looked up, however, at Tanzanite's words.
"You got promoted."
The topic skipped onto a much more heavier and solemn subject as Tanzanite spoke. Serandite hadn't been expecting a fluffy conversation but it was quite the drastic topic change. Of course, that's what they had met up for. Serandite couldn't be too surprised. She still was. But what was surprising was the sense of friendship that Serandite felt with Tanzanite's simple words. Serandite knew she had far to go to even match the level of fighting experience Tanzanite, Obisidan and Hematite had. (Tobernite was debatable.) She also knew that most of the captains didn't believe she had the skills or experience to be promoted. Yet-- Did Tanz's words mean she earned Tanzanite's approval? Just a tiny bit? Not much was revealed with Tanzanite's curt words. But one thing was clear. Tanzanite certainly didn't disapprove of it. She was also taking her precious time to spar with the younger captain. It was an extra effort on Tanzanite's part-- proving that Serandite wasn't considered to be a complete waste of her time.
Serandite had a million miles to catch up. She was determined to catch up, not to lag behind as the other captains moved far ahead of her. One step at a time.
Wordlessly, she nodded in confirmation. Her weapon appeared from the subspace without a sound, Serandite's small form disappearing from behind the large-sized rabbit. It didn't hesitate to run towards Tanzanite, glowing red eyes turned forward, a giant paw lashing out to land a painful punch at Tanzanite's location. Meanwhile, Serandite had come from above, shielded by her rabbit, to attack the purple haired captain from the skies, making a double assault of herself and her bunny.
