Name: Sircha (Seer-ka) Doherty
Nicknames: None (Sirkie by one co-worker, against Sircha’s will)
Age: 23
Birthday: June 24th
Sign: Cancer
Blood Type: B
Occupation: Trauma Nurse
Fav. Food: Beef stew, mashed potatoes, hearty food
Hated Food: Horseradish, tuna, anything really strong-smelling
Gemstone: Pearl
Hobbies: Reading: Number one priority is paying those ever-present bills, so picking up extra shifts at the hospital is Sircha's main pastime. However, this means she has little time for anything else that cannot be picked up and put down at will. As the main occupation of her free time, she’s enjoyed reading all her life. The area of her hometown in northern Ireland is barren, with constantly howling wind and freezing rain. Not exactly a childhood playground. Books were her escape from the cold and loneliness of being an only child, in a small town with few diversions and even fewer children. Tales of heroines and fierce beasts carried her through her youth and into adulthood. Today, though she is far from the wasteland she grew up in, the violence and horror she sees everyday at work causes her to retreat to tales of adventure and heroism to find some measure of peace. She prefers fantasies with a hint of romance, but is always on the lookout for ones with a feminist tilt; the damsel falling for her heroic rescuer gets a little old after a while.
Rainy day walks: In northern Ireland, getting stuck in a rainstorm was no summer romance; it could kill. Pneumonia and hypothermia were not swift killers, but were sure enough, just the same. Now in the relatively summery Destiny City, Sircha enjoys the less lethal variation of rain. If it even looks like rain, Sircha brings an umbrella to work and plans on walking home. There’s hardly anyone else outside, which means she doesn’t have to fill the peace with idle chatter, and she can walk slow and easy as she enjoys the always-pleasant sound of rain.
Squash (sport): Some days a walk in the rain simply isn’t enough. After stressful days, full of belligerent patients, impatient coworkers, and malfunctioning equipment, Sircha needs something a little more energetic to take the edge off. Being constantly on call means she can’t take up a sport that requires team meetings and obligations, and squash can be played alone at 3am at the 24-hour gym if that’s when her bad day ends.
Virtues: Photographic memory: Having never attended college, Sircha’s excellent memory is probably the only reason she’s managed to compete with college grads in the nursing workforce. She doesn’t remember everything instantly, but if she makes a point to read everything on a chart, she can recall it at will later on in the day. She can remember things easier if she closes her eyes, but will often simply ‘space out’ for a moment during recollection. Though a point of pride, being a single thing she has over her coworkers, her memory comes back to bite her, in the dark nights just before sleep – the bloody work of the day will come back to haunt her, implanted in her memory without will.
Tight-lipped: With zero tolerance for gossip, especially about patients, Sircha can tell when her coworkers have been at it by the sudden, usually awkward, change in subject when she turns the corner. She may not make for a great conversationalist, but if you insist on telling her your life story, you can expect she'll be taking it to the grave.
Level-headed: The first thing a hysteric may say is that they're not hysterical, but it certainly does not do to have those attempting to help be hysterical too. Sircha’s seen what she considers to be anything and everything during her years at the trauma ward, and while she’s occasionally surprised, she’s rarely overwhelmed. During stressful days, it’s much more productive to swallow frustration and take it out on the handball wall when her shift’s done. She has a slight tendency to fall back on her Irish accent when she gets emotional or frustrated, and the sound of it coming through in her voice is somewhat of an emotional check.
Money-saver: Though by no means frugal, Sircha does know how to cut costs on everyday things, having grown up in a poorer household. She goes through life, neat, efficient, and unadorned. It's one of the few things she's perfectly willing to share advice about, after all, who doesn't need to save money? If you care to know, she'll tell you exactly which supermarket has the cheapest bread or where you can find inexpensive shoes, just don't expect her to share any of her coupons. She has little enough time to bargain hunt, she can't go about finding replacement coupons for ones she gave you.
Flaws: Suspicious/Pessimist: (weakness) Sircha has never had a boyfriend. Does not. And will not. End of story. Men in the real world aren’t princes in shining armor, and she’s certainly no damsel in distress. During the tighter months of her childhood, it was always a guessing game in their household whether they'd be able to pay the bills that month. Determined to not live that way, Sircha plans for, even anticipates things falling to pieces. Lovers cheat, marriages fail, a broken ankle will put her out of work at the hospital for months. Nobody’s going to give her a free handout and fortunate events are just lucky streaks waiting to end. The real world is violent and cruel, and Sircha has learned to accept and anticipate the bottom dropping out.
Blunt: She may not talk much, but when she does, she gets to the bottom line. No point meandering on about pointless details, someone’s probably waiting on their chart to be filled, or their test results to be taken. Don’t expect much polite conversation on her down-time; it’s too far between and precious to waste on idle chatter.
Self-centered: Are you feeling down? Good. Accept it and move on. Sircha has better things to do than listen to you whine. Need help moving? Try your other neighbor. Want that last piece of cake? Tough. It’s a rough world, where the weak get pounced on in dark alleys, so you’d better take care of yourself first and foremost. Not the most friendly disposition, but that’s just fine, since things like friendship end up making people think that you’ll help them with this or that, and Sircha has her own life to take care of, thank you very much.
Anti-Excess: Flashy clothes, designer bags, and fancy jewelery have neither a place in Sircha's closet, nor in her immediate company. She has an immediate dislike for those who wear expensive, designer fashions, though not to the point of outright hatred or sabotage. Why anyone would pay the outrageous prices for such things is absolutely beyond Sircha, especially when that money can simply be saved up for something actually useful, like groceries, a car, or new carpet.
Appearance: Hair: Dark red, thin, with no trace of unruly frizz. A-cut bangs that fall to the length of the rest of her hair, and the tips curl slightly to the front. A-cut bangs, and the tips curl slightly to the front. Falls to just above her shoulders and she will occasionally pull it into a messy bun to keep it out of her face, though a few strands will escape to frame her face.
Eyes: Green and oval, like her mother’s.
Face: High cheekbones with a small, defined chin. A small mouth that gives her a vaguely irritated look. A small scattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose.
Body: Average build, and small to moderately endowed. Very pale skin.
Fashion: Muted colors with nothing that would stand out too much. Unpatterned scrubs while at work, perhaps with a lab coat if she's doing tests. On days when she needs to look particularly professional (ie: board member visits) a button up shirt with a sweater vest, perhaps even a skirt if it's nice enough out. Sensible shoes at all times, as she needs to be on her feet all day.

Additional Information Job Information: Sircha interned at the local hospital during high school, and had never planned on going to college. Her family was by no means wealthy, and the amount of debt a college education would bring was something she didn’t want to take on. However, she fit well into the job of a nurse after graduation, and by the time she was twenty had the means to relocate. Good references only went so far, but Destiny City was desperate for trauma nurses and Sircha was more than welcomed into the over-burdened trauma unit. Over the past few years, she’s gained a small amount of recognition as being an efficient nurse, however her lack of bedside manner and college degree means she’s watched her peers move upwards and had to acknowledge she will likely remain a simple trauma nurse for the duration of her career.
Family: Mother: Eileen O’Connell had Sircha right out of high school, and married the father, Lochlan Doherty, soon after. She worked long hours at the local diner, with the dream that one day she’d save enough to send her baby girl to college. The dream died however, when Lochlan was laid off. Eileen’s income became the main income of the household, and during though it was barely enough, she tried to give her daughter what she could, allowing her to spend long hours at the local library, knowing the happiness her daughter found when she escaped into a book.
Father: Once a well-respected member of the high school football team, a one-night stand with Eileen O’Connell reset the course he had planned for himself. In a small, conservative town, there was only one thing he could do with a woman and a child, and they married and moved into a small shack the local real estate agent cut them a deal on as a wedding present. Working at the steel mill just outside town brought a steady paycheck, and while times were hard, they were looking up. When the steel mill closed down, Lochlan was laid off, and struggled for months to find steady employment. When the doddering old cook at the diner Eileen worked at passed away, he jumped at the chance and finally had a steady job. He still made less than Eileen, but it was enough to get by from month to month. When Sircha graduated high school, he helped her pick out Destiny City as the place to go. Aside from being desperate for nurses, it was warm, sunny, bustling with people, everything he felt his daughter needed to make a contented life.
