Hey!
I wasn't sure where this would go so I thought I'd put it here.
For my class I'm doing a video project on the rise of Tokidoki in America. I wanted to get the opinion of the general public. I have a few questions I'd love for you guys to answer, and please tell me if you would prefer me to use or not to use your response in my project ( I completely respect that.) Also, if you know someone I can talk to that might know more about it I'd really appreciate that as well.
1. Have you heard of Tokidoki before?
2. What products (if any) do you particularly like?
3. Where did you first hear about Tokidoki?
4.What were your first impressions?
5. What do you think contributed to the rise in Tokidoki popularity?
6. How do you think to compares to other Japanese-inspired brands like Harajuku Lovers?
7. Do you think it will continue to rise in popularity?
8. Other thoughts.

I'd love to fill this out for you, though I doubt I'll be helpful... sweatdrop And you can use whatever information for your project.
1. Have you heard of Tokidoki before?
Yes, just once in this guild, and have seen some products.
2. What products (if any) do you particularly like?
I don't really know what they offer. I just know what some of their designs look like. Just looked at their website. It'd totally get cellphone charms and bags from them. LOL.
3. Where did you first hear about Tokidoki?
Here in the My Japan Guild when Yama posted a thread about it.
4.What were your first impressions?
It's Japanese!? Oh wait, no it's not. But it's super cute!
5. What do you think contributed to the rise in Tokidoki popularity?
Probably the fact that it's cute. The designs appear to appeal to kids, however, if you really look at it, they can appeal to a more mature crowd too. They have an edgy/punky/scene feel to their images, which reaches a wider demographic in my opinion. Plus it's a bonus that they have colaborations with Hello Kitty and Marvel. Instead of the usual characters you'd see in the comics or in their own stores, Tokidoki have the ability to chibify and soften their characters instead. And by changing the feel of the original characters, it gives them a great new twist that fans of Marvel and Hello Kitty would be interested in buying stuff for.
6. How do you think to compares to other Japanese-inspired brands like Harajuku Lovers?
Harajuku Lovers seems more high-end. Tokidoki seems to have a wider range in products as well. I'm looking at the site right now, and they have everything from clothes to tech, to toys. I don't really see that kind of stuff in Harajuku.
7. Do you think it will continue to rise in popularity?
Possibly, I think it's pretty popular as it is now, but every business has the ability to grow larger if they advertise, or collaborate more.
8. Other thoughts.
Tokidoki is not really my style, however, their items are diverse enough that their style could match mine; which is also a great ability for a business to have.

I didnt know it was even popular

I think it was directly inspired by kawaii, and it does a good job at being poppy-kawaii

Yes!

The calender's and stationary as well as the cellphone charms, keychains and purses. The prints are just too cute!
3. Where did you first hear about Tokidoki?
I found a planner at Borders and did some research.
4.What were your first impressions?
It was obviously inspired by Japanese Animation, I thought it was cute and bold and I loved it. It was a more mature version of Sanrio.
5. What do you think contributed to the rise in Tokidoki popularity?
Unique, new and broad prints. There is a print for everyone no matter what you love!
6. How do you think to compares to other Japanese-inspired brands like Harajuku Lovers?
It has more affordable assesroies (such as the cell phone charms and keychains) but also upscale things. The style is cute and mature at the same time and it is chaotic and simple at the same time. The colors and the style are much more appealing than Harajuku Lovers.
7. Do you think it will continue to rise in popularity?
Yes. I think Tokidoki will become as recognizable as Hello Kitty one day.
