Do you listen to music while you write? Which music helps you write the most? What do you use to inspire certain scenes?
I've been finding 30 Seconds To Mars really inspiring recently - I finished a short story with 'This Is War' on loop.

Depends on what I'm in the mood for, and what I'm writing. Usually it's classical, but sometimes if I'm writing something smutty or something, I'll listen to a song like 'Bruises and Bitemarks'. xD

I find it too distracting other wise. I really like 30 seconds to Mars though biggrin

Writing never happens, though, so there's no point.

Ego: What kind of classical do you like? And why does writing never happen?
Doodle: Oh, that must be frustrating.
Ele: Aren't they fun? Have you heard any of their covers?

@phantom: I've not heard any of their stuff in a long time. Seems that they kind of fizzled out over here. I only knew of them as my ex from about 7 years ago would listen to them.

Oh, okay. Yeah, here they were big about three or four years ago, and they've had some solid stuff since, but not the same media attention for it.

When I write-- call me a dork-- I love to listen to instrumental music. Music with words in it tends to distract me from what I want to write. But some Hans Zimmer or James Horner can absolutely get my creative juices flowing. Rarely do I listen to vocal music while I write, but when I'm not writing, I love rock and metal. The Mars Volta and Within Temptation are some of my favorite bands.

Last I heard of them was like... 7 years ago I think lol. @Scraps: that's not weird at all. Studies have even proven that classical music improves concentration.

Scraps: I love Within Temptation, too! And instrumental is really great for the brain; they keep doing more and more studies with babies and Mozart.
Ele: Lol. I don't even know if I'd heard of them that long ago.
And right now I am really digging Metric. Particularly 'Gold, Guns, Girls' for one character in one story.

I listen to whatever strikes my fancy at the time. Sometimes it's just one band, sometimes it's a play list I made for the novel I'm working on or a set of charries I happen to love. Just whatever floats my boat really.

When I write, or draw, or anything really, it helps me concentrate when I listen to music; I mostly put my ipod on shuffle, and I've got a bit of everything on there... I especially like listening to groups like Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, with songs by Pink, Cobra Starship, and other random groups thrown in.
Otherwise, I just listen to videogame background music, which may be a bit wierd... sweatdrop

I'm a part of the Writer's Block Arena Writing Contest (or I was, until I lost), which is where participants each create their own characters, then are partnered into opponents, and each has to write a story in which their characters fight and defeat their opponent's characters in an arena fight. And in my pairing my boxer and swordsman duo were up against the son of Satan and his Circus of Freaks. And because it was a circus (and because my opponent had specifically mentioned that the ringleader had the ability to pull music out of his hat; long story), I had to include music in the story. So I skimmed through the internet looking for songs from your planet that you Earthlings would recognize and got "The Firth of Fifth" by Genesis and "Karn Evil 9 First Impression Part Two" by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. Then I incorporated the lyrics into the story and had the fight kind of revolve on them. ... It's kind of hard to explain, but I thought it worked. I still lost the contest, though.
