It had been a pretty good morning, Kafele figured. The small red cub had been allowed to leave his mother’s watchful gaze to go play with some nearby cubs and, as usual, Kafele got into a few scuffles. He was now trotting back home, a cheerful bounce in his every step, an expectant grin anticipating his siblings’ reaction to the minor scratches he now bore so proudly.
The cub froze abruptly when something red – or rather, someone – caught his attention. He did a silly double take before his head started tilting sideways. It was a lion… a big lion. And a stranger. At least Kafele didn’t remember ever seeing him before. But there was something else. He was red… and his tail was a different color from the rest of his body – well, so was mom’s… and his markings were partially yellow… and his toes were the same color of his mane. And his eyes, oh his eyes! They were so… blue. Was he imagining things? But weren’t they a bit similar really, this stranger and Kafele himself?
Before he knew it and without really thinking, he was hiding behind a small patch of tall grass and slowly following the big male.

The day was bright, brilliant and hid nothing, all the rodents who had come to think that the danger had passed from the night before were trampled on and torn apart before meeting a stomach acidy end. Angra Mainyu had just gotten himself standing, his stomach filled and mood content.
Paws, huge, covered the ground slowly, lazily wandering around 'exploring'. He'd had a run in with a couple small deer and was bruised and slightly cut up, nothing big enough to leave a mark, but left obvious patches of blood. "Hmm.." He sighed softly, his voice deep and gruff. He was a rough-tough looking lion with issues sparkling in his eye's.
It had been about three more steps before he smelled the air, truly took in a whiff of the area. His nose wrinkled slightly, there was something young nearby. He growled lightly, he turned slightly taking in the terrain, the cub must've been hiding because he hadn't seen a thing.
"Come out here." He demanded. His voice got deeper, anger pure and tone steady. He sat, haunches relaxed, pelt smooth and shining, showing off obvious muscles.

Busted. Oh, crap.
The adult didn’t sound very happy. It wasn’t as if the cub was doing something particularly wrong but Kafele was starting to feel very nervous. He muttered a curse word that his mother would never hear from his mouth and stood up quickly, trying to look confident. What should he say?! His brother Livi would know of something polite or appropriate. Too bad he wasn’t here to help him.
“Morning, sir.” He said simply, stepping closer to the male with a small smile that he hoped would look cute and innocent. “You saw me, huh?”
He froze when his eyes met the adult’s and his smile fell almost instantly. There was something very cold about that gaze. It took his every bit of strength to resist the urge to take a step back.
Please, please, pease, don’t be a Ligi.

Angra smiled dangerously as the cub came into view, oh he was a young one alright. But shock was apparent in his cold eye's, the colorings of the cub, why they matched his own! He shook away the thought and stood, paws laying heavily on the ground with each step he took forward, he stood almost 3 feet from the cub and stared long and hard, the eye's, the markings, what was this, a game!
"I smelled you out, silly cub." He growled lightly with his words, he stood huge, pelt puffed a bit at his looking at the cubs markings. "You stink of fear and an absurd confidence. Where's your Mother and Father?" He demanded. The question struck him suddenly, why did he care?
What a replica...
he thought, eye's glued, waiting on teh cubs response. The pathetic looking creature before him was shaking terribly, Angra obviously didn't care, but he suddenly wanted answers.

Too close, too close, too close...
The small cub’s thoughts, however, were obviously not enough to stop the adult’s approach. So he’d smelled him… he should’ve thought about that. Though to be fair, his mind was fairly blank every time his eyes met Angras’s piercing gaze.
“Oh. Right.” Kafele lowered his head a bit almost as if he was trying to catch a whiff of his own scent. “I’m not afraid!” which was obviously a blatant lie but he still forced his tail to raise a little and he stood a little straighter, stubbornly staring the adult in the face, only a light shiver of his front paws betraying him.
“I don’t have a father. But my mother and the rest of the family live nearby so you might know her. Amira?” he was suddenly very still as if waiting for the male’s reaction, wondering if a flicker of recognition would soon cross the red male’s eyes. His father was supposed to be a rogue but Kafele didn’t dare to ask if the male had recently joined the pride. It made him feel somewhat safe to mention his family's close proximity (though perhaps he was exaggerating said proximity) but he was still resisting the urge to turn around and run.

A light flickered in Angra's eye's, when challenged about stirring he never backed down. On all fours he took it into his pleasure to creep to the cubs personal space, he stank of death, dried blood and a strong male scent, he was a dominant male. not one to back down a challenge and requested everyone's respect, not that he didn't get it simply out of fear. "Are you afraid now, liar?" He growled deeply, holding nothing back just because the cub was a, well a cub.
"It's hard to know a name, when I've known so many names, your Mother was probably just 1 in the thousands of females your Father had been with." He stayed, nose nearly touching the cubs nose. Eye's digging deeply into the cubs, searching for every fear, waiting for a cry, for some form of confidence break, Angra had no doubt that his eye's would stay engraved in this cubs mind for a many nightmares to come.
"How near? How near is your family? Do you think they are near enough to hear your cries as I tear you stomach open. Ripping into you flesh.. One claw at a time?" He growled, his mouth spread into a twisted grin. He forgot the pelts resemblance to him and he held up one paw, unsheathing a single claw and gliding it along the ground beside the cub.

"Are you afraid now, liar?"
He was. The words echoed in head as he realized he’d said something wrong and the male slowly moved closer – so close that the cub could touch him if he raised a paw. Kafele dropped to the ground instinctively, lowering his gaze and hugging the ground as if trying to make himself look as small and submissive as possible. He’d never felt so helpless and wanted to growl, to fight, to rebel against Him and this whole situation but something told him he shouldn’t, couldn’t. That he was in real danger here and had to choose his words very carefully. But he was no good with words and he didn’t know how to appease the huge lion. What did he want from him?!
Then he insulted his mother or at least that’s how Kafele saw it. He was young but he knew what that meant. What he was so carelessly calling Amira. Only one of many. Easy. If a male had been with his mother, he would remember her! …Right? Again, he suppressed a growl. His whole jaw was shaking as he forced himself not to answer the male mostly because he was afraid of further igniting his temper, noticing for the first time that the color of the male’s paws was not, in fact, the same of his mane.
But for all his fear Kafele was, for the most part, in control of himself, of his reactions… that is, until Angra decided to elaborate on what he could do to him before anyone got there (or worse, without anyone knowing). Kafele’ s eyes were wide with fully dilated pupils as his breathing increased rapidly, his tiny chest weaving in a rapid erratic rhythm, so fast his mouth had to open a little to allow the air flow to pass. He followed the adult’s paw (which was almost the size Kafele’s little head), slowly leaning away from it and his head twisted instinctively as if he was hoping someone would see them.
“I-I’m sorry.” He let out in a whimpering whisper, the panic plainly evident in voice, eyes meeting the cold gaze once again, silently begging the adult not to harm him. But Kafele didn’t dare to move. He didn’t dare to speak any further. He felt any word would be his last and that this huge monster was going to kill him either way, whatever he said or did. Right now he would’ve kissed ground the Ligi walked if one would just come and save him right now. His headp dropped to the ground and he closed his eyes, shaking like grass blades in the wind, hoping the monster would just go away.

Angra saw the cbs eye's close, complete submission. Had he wanted to kill the cub, he could have, tear him to bits and pieces, suckle at the sweet blood and burn through the flesh leaving bones and a pelt, but something in Angra stirred, his anger did not dissipate, if anything got worse as he fought himself off the cub, he roared his dissatisfaction. A deep, ear splitting roar of pure rage, he would not kill the cub, not today. Not because he was young, not because he smelled different and not because he gave in, but those markings could not stop teasing the larger male.
"Get home to your pathetic Mother. If I did meet her then I hope I never do again, her litter is probably as weak as you are. Get home." He growled, repeating his last line in a sort of vengeance for not having killed the cub while he could.
With that he turned, not waiting on questions, anything the cub had to say, but half expecting an argument or something.

Kafele flinched as Angra roared, unable to suppress a very low whimper and as soon as the shadow of the male left him, his eyes opened wide and the cub held his breath. “Get home”, he’d said, that crazy lion was finally letting him go with those words, those familiar words he heard so often when he was too loud next to a grumpy old lion or and annoyed mother of a cub he’d been bullying too roughly or even a Ligi who he’d had the misfortune of encountering. Those familiar words brought forth the usual – almost instinctive – response and the red cub sprinted forward, this time without his typical mischievous grin but with the same fearful wide-eyed expression he’d wore before.
But Kafele didn’t run for long. As soon as the cub had some distance between them, he saw the blue sky ahead, felt the warm sun on the crimson coat, the soft breeze caressed his face and the appearance of lion shapes in the distance gave him one sudden (even if careless) burst of confidence. He even wondered if perhaps the adult wasn’t just an angry relative of someone he hurt who decided to teach him a lesson. But one of shapes in the distance was definitely a Ligi, most likely trying to figure out the origin of the commotion. And a Ligi would help him, right? I mean, he wouldn’t let the nephew of a Lord die right in front of him, right? Right...
“My mother…!” Kafele turned around but whatever words followed in his thoughts were left unsaid as his tiny voice broke. Also, the cub seemed to suddenly realize he wanted his mother out of this conversation and he didn’t even realize Angra was admitting the possibility of being his father.
“It’s just ‘cause you’re big! And I’m gonna be bigger!” Rather belatedly, it occurred to him that it probably was a mistake to stand up so tall as he tried to explain why he’d “lost” (as if being scared to death meant he had put up some sort of fight to begin with). But challenging this particular lion was not something he really wanted to do (or thought he could get away it without some sort of repercussion) and his tail began to lower slowly after the initial bravado. He’d spoken without thinking – as usual – and there was no taking it back so the red cub lifted one of his front paws and balanced himself awkwardly as if he was prepared to flee at any minute – which was probably what he’d do if the male turned that cold gaze back at him again.

Angra paused in his step, he'd heard the small paw steps of the youngster fleeing from the one sided 'battle'. It wasn't long, he knew it would happen, before the youngster spoke up. Angra didn't waste anytime, other lions around or not Angra wouldn't have a cub, with any chance of his blood in him, disobeying an order. It didn't tale , but a few long strides to be at the cub, pushing him to his back and with a wide paw across the cubs stomach Angra brought his face down, nose to nose with the cub, cold blue eye's staring directly into the cubbins own pair of blue orbs.
"You listen hear you young piece of b*****d child, I said get home, I did not say turn back around and taunt me, do you hear me? DO you understand me?" He growled warningly. His paw held the cub still, he could feel it's heart beating, he'd never felt such a wonder before, but that 'wonder' was lost quickly.
"Do. You. Understand." His voice raised, anger flashing through his cold gaze, he took in a deep smell, the other lions were getting closer, he hadn't realized hwo loud he was being, a shocker that someone had come to check on a lost cub, at least they were being cared for, Angra shook his head, released the cub and turned his back again. "Get home." his voice was stone and cold, but not angry anymore. It seemed lighter.

Kafele’s front paws were already in the air when the male reached him and as he felt his body being easily pushed backwards the cub realized he’d never really had a change to get away. The adult was simply too fast for him and it would take more than a few steps between them to make a difference. A low growl escaped his lips as he felt his back touch the ground – how he hated to be forced into that position! - but the young lion quickly cut it midway when his whole abdomen was covered by the massive paw of the lion. He whelped, not just because being pushed down so roughly had obviously hurt, but because he was sure Angra was going to tear his belly open.
“Yes, yes, yes. Yes, sir!” the cub blurted out as those dangerous eyes drew close – too close. Under the shadow of the red male even the breeze seemed to grow colder. When he felt the pressure ease (in more ways than one) he didn’t hesitate when he was dismissed the second time. There was no hint of challenge in his face or posture and he just ran as fast as he could, tripping once or twice before finally disappearing in the tall grass. He headed straight home, intent on asking his Amira about his father though the cub knew he’d probably never get the courage now. But maybe he could try aunt Fila first.
He got a nasty swipe from the Ligi who he’d ran into – literally – and the cub he kept the memory of the frightening event to himself, afraid get others involved in any way. He just wanted to forget. His mother would probably notice his son being strangely subdued in the next few weeks, more careful as he left the den and with more restless during his sleep but she would probably blame it on the encounter with a scary Ligi.
Kafele didn’t look back until he was safe home. He finally realized what the adults in his family meant when they talked about the ruler, Sahen. Kafele was finally understanding the meaning of the word “cruel”.
Atmaja was strength. Atmaja was determination. Atmaja was chaos. But that… that wasn’t Atmaja. Not to him at least. And he was most certainly not his father! …Right?
