Kredoe was bored and restless. She wasn't in the mood to go wandering in search of other soquilis but she wasn't in the mood to simply lie about doing nothing either. Her "father figure" Isiah could probably provide her some measure of entertainment but she always bothered him when she was bored. No, Kree wasn't up for bothering Isiah today. And then her sights fell upon the stallion Ryuhei. He'll do, she decided.

Ryuhei had just returned from his daily run. He had no particular destination in mind whenever he left. He simply couldn't keep himself from running. He never bothered to measure the distance he'd travel but his body seemed to know when he should stop, turn around, and head for, well, for his current resting grounds. The stallion doesn't want to call the camp with the two-legged creature and the other soquilis "home" just yet. It felt too soon and he wasn't ready for anything particularly permanent just yet.
His ears flick at the sound of approaching hooves. He snorts and narrows his eyes at Kredoe but says nothing to the mare.

Kredoe flashed the stallion a sweet smile and completely ignored the unwelcoming gleam in his eyes. She trotted closer to him, stopping only when his stance shifted to indicate he would leave if she took another step, which wouldn't do! Kree had learned she doesn't have what it takes to keep up with the stallion when he runs.
And besides, she wasn't in the mood for exercise. "You know," she begins, "For someone who claims they have no plans on sticking around, you sure have been here a long time."

Again, Ryuhei snorted. Great, it was the mare who couldn't take the hint that he wanted to be left alone. Even when he openly showed his disinterest, she wouldn't leave. Worse still, she was trying to talk to him. He'd learned that ignoring the mare never worked. She was persistent.
"Don't see why that matters," he states, sounding very unconcerned and unaffected by her opinions.

Kree tilted her head thoughtfully, "Huh. I thought you'd be smart enough to see how that does matter. I mean, the two-legger collects food and water for us but the more of us there are, the fewer resources we have. And at least I've made it clear that I intend to stick around so I help out where I can."
She pawed absently at the ground before continuing "Not that that wasn't pretty obvious. To someone smart, I mean."

"I pull my weight." Is all Ryuhei said as he approached her slowly. His expression was bored, and for all intents and purposes, the stallion seemed to be planning on just walking away from this conversation.
Not that he hadn't tried something like that in the past. And Ryuhei was the sort who learned from his mistakes. But that didn't mean the mare he was talking to knew that, did it?

Isiah had returned with the two-legged member of the herd riding on his back. They had gone on their weekly foraging expedition and came back with food and water, enough for five of them! He felt especially pleased that he was now strong enough to carry more than usual.
The silent, two-legged creature gave the stallion an affectionate pat on his neck, whispered soft words he couldn't understand but made him feel happy upon hearing. He neighed, telling her that he was off to check on the others. He was sure his adopted daughter was bored by now and he knew she'd be up to no good. He eventually found them and was pleasantly surprised to find Ryuhei actually engaging in a conversation with the mare.
That's not something you see everyday! He grins to himself and quietly approaches them. He doesn't want to spook Ryuhei from coming out of his shell after all.

Kree wasn't getting the kind of response she wanted. But she supposed no response was a response, wasn't it? This just meant Ryuhei wasn't sensitive about his intelligence. So what is he sensitive about? she wondered.
Her brown eyes widened in surprise when he headed for her, curiously she canted her head. "You do? I couldn't tell. As far as I know, it's Isiah who's doing most of the weight-pulling. And we're both so lucky to have someone like him as the leader of the herd. Not that I wouldn't make for a good leader, but I'm too young for such responsibilities. But you, on the other hand, aren't you too old to be relying on charity?"

Ryuhei continued to say nothing. He continued to keep his expression blank and unreadable up until he was so close to Kredoe their muzzles are only inches apart. He glanced at their surroundings, saw the two-legged creature was no where in sight and neither was Isiah. How was he to know the other stallion was utilizing stealth in his approach? When he turned back to face Kree, Ryuhei wasn't aware just how near Isiah was to the pair.
Had he known, perhaps he wouldn't have reared back on his hind legs and kicked out at the mare.

Isiah was smiling to himself as he watched Kree and Ryuhei talk. Or rather he watched Kree have a monologue with Ryuhei. He had managed to sneak up on the pair and was about to surprise them when he saw Ryuhei attack Kredoe.
Red eyes widened in anger and disbelief and powerful muscles tensed. Hooves pushed against the ground as he shot out at Ryuhei and slammed himself against the other stallion. Heavily, he planted both his front legs on top of the stallion and demanded "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

Kredoe stood stock-still in shock. She had seen Isiah become exasperated with her, even lose his temper when she prodded and poked at his proverbial beehive. She had watched the older stallion take his frustrations out on shrubs, tumbleweeds, stones and even the odd dead tree. But not once does she remember seeing him strike out at her.
Or another living creature for that matter.
Not until Ryuhei attacked her. She stared, wide-eyed, trying to process as much as she could from the events that unfolded before her. She had caused this, she knew that. And once the hammering of her heart calms down, she'll be able to take note of things better. For the moment, she tentatively approached the pair of stallions.

Ryuhei let out a grunt at the impact. He was ready to spring back to his feet had Isiah not planted his unnaturally heavy legs on top of him. It would be futile to struggle and it would more than likely only serve to further aggravate the self-proclaimed leader of the herd.
"You may want to remember to breathe there," Ryuhei remarked, deadpan, as if this whole thing wasn't the least bit interesting.

Isiah could not believe his ears. He could not believe what the other stallion just said. "You don't seem to understand the situation here," he snarls and presses down harder. Only stopping when he detected a small wince from Ryuhei. "I don't tolerate anyone attacking my family. And you made it very clear you don't plan on being part of it."
He spied Kree's approach and glared at her. "Don't come near us, Kree."

"Why?" Kree asked, pouting at her adopted father. "I want to know just as much as you do why Ryuhei suddenly attacked me. I thought we were having such a lovely conversation. Besides, he hasn't answered my question."
She ignored the suspicious look on Isiah's face and continued to draw close. "Well?" She quirked a brow at the stallion currently pinned to the ground. "Aren't you too old to be relying on charity? Either you're part of this herd or you aren't."

Ryuhei stared up at both the stallion and the mare. Confusion flickered briefly in his eyes, especially at Kredoe's question. "I thought that was obvious. To someone smart, I mean," he mimicked. Or mocked. It was difficult to tell which given that Isiah was still all but crushing his lungs. But to Ryuhei's credit, he wasn't giving the stallion or the mare the benefit of seeing him suffer.
If they decide to cast him out, that was their call. He wouldn't have any problems with being shunned. He was quite used to others turning their backs on him. And he acknowledged that if they did, it was because of his own doing.
