We have several ideas about articles for the Hogwarts Monthly. One of them is to read a book, chapter by chapter. Then, someone would write about that chapter in the paper. So, in order to do this we need to come up with ideas for the book. Then we need someone to write about it.

So, everyone, what book should we read? Is anybody interested in writing for this article? Or maybe something else?

Whether you have an idea or not, you can write for the paper. We have ideas that you could use if you can't think of anything. Or if you have your own idea, just send me a pm and I will get back to you, A.S.A.P.

If your interested, you should check out the Hogwarts Monthly Editor's Office.

Edit: We have decided to pick a genera and then we will vote on it. After that we will choose an Author and finally, a book. Hopefully that will make it easier to narrow this down. So you should do it like this...

Okay so my choices are:
1. Murder Mystery
2. Fantasy

Edit: The Poll is now up for which type of genera we should read. The poll will be up until June 7th, hopefully this will give time for everyone that' interested to Vote. After the genera has been chosen, we will move on to picking an Author.
{I made this Poll to last a long time so that we can put this in the HM. Hopefully more people will read it there.}

I got it. And just did the same.

Does anyone have an idea about what book it should be?

Quick suggestion: chapter by chapter might not be a good idea. Depending on the book, a chapter could actually be quite short, and in any event, summarizing a chapter alone makes a very, very small article.
I'd suggest doing an entire book at a time, though if it's a particularly long book then I suppose dividing it into halves or even quarters could also work.
Of course, you could always go and prove me wrong. That'd work, too.

As for what book...um...I could give an entire list of fantasy series and individual books which I enjoy personally. Whether everyone else likes them is another question, as is whether the reader/writer would be willing to work with them.

Well, I was thinking that it would be read 4 chapters (1 a week) at a time and then written about it chapter by chapter. Doing one book at a time could wind up being a very long article.

I have a very long list too, so everyone should put their first pick, that way after we get people to answer we can make a poll and vote on it. This isn't going to be an overnight kind of thing.

I only read detective mysteries, like those by Agatha Christie.

I actually would love to read an Agatha Christie book. I've seen several movies based on the books and I've played several games based on them too.

I read mostly fantasy, but occasionally mysteries or other books. I've read a couple good Agatha Christie ones, and I really like Laurie R. King's books.
-The Eight by Katherine Neville is quite an interesting book. It's a mystery, but not a detective mystery.
-Of the Agatha Christie mysteries, my favorite is And Then There Were None, also published as Ten Little Indians

-Good Night Mr. Tom by Michelle Magorian is one of my absolute favorite books. It's not a mystery or fantasy or anything, but it tells a story both heartwarming and horrifying.

Might I add how much I love the way Avatar is taking the reins of the Monthly?? It's exactly what I imagined when the HM was revamped.

The thing about AC is that her books are geared towards mature age groups. I didn't read my first one until I was 13 (which my mom considered early)

Thanks Icee!

That's true they are murder mysteries (at least all the one's I know of). And if I had to pick one to read first it would be Death on the Nile.

Another book I love is Le Morte d'Arthur. (No, it's not written in French)

{Didn't we find out that the average age of the Guild was about 16. I can't remember anyone under 13 or 14.}

Whichever book we choose as a guild should be one that most libraries have, cuz I would feel bad if someone had to go buy a book, you know? I don't mind which book we choose, I'll basically read anything lol.

Maybe if we make a book club it can go in the Halls of Learning and there could be some point system for it. (compeltely off topic I know)

@Lyra: Sorry, I missed you before. Like I said anything Agatha Christie is wonderful, I would read anything she wrote. I've never heard of Michelle Magorian though. I'll have to look her up.

@Juice: I totally agree. If it can't be borrowed from a local library, then we should pick a different book. I'd read just about anything too.

@Icee: That reminds me of something. I'll pm you and give you more information on it but, it's just a theory.
(And it's not related picking a book)

Personally, I've not heard of Agatha Cristie. Not really interested in murder mysteries, either. But if the writer of the summary thinks it's a good idea, then by all means, go ahead. What it comes down to in the end is what kind of book can the writer stomach enough to read to the end and then review?
