 It was lost.
He'd found it a few weeks before and had hidden it carefully, going back to check once or twice a day to see if it was safe. Each time before he'd found it there, waiting for him. Now though it was gone. He'd looked around for a while in vain, checking the ground about the spot in case it had been knocked out or washed away by a bit of rain. It had, after all, rained for a while the day before. It was possible.
It took him a long while but eventually he found a dry spot to lay down in for a rest. It was gone and really... That was just too bad.

A little green mare plodded her way along the open ground, just looking around and taking in the scenery. It was a nice, pleasant day. It was warm, but not too warm, and the air was nice and cool. It usually was after the rain. She smiled, enjoying it. A little squirrel ran around her feet, chittering away, but she paid him little attention other than to nod occasionally and make a small comment.
As she gazed around, she noticed a much larger stallion lying in the grass. "Oh!" she said, making her way over to him and leaving the squirrel to carry on his way, not having noticed yet that his companion had deserted him.
"Hello!"

Chane's eyes grew wide and he got up in a hurry so he could look down at the small horse. He'd never seen any horse so tiny in his whole life.
The squirrel he would have ignored entirely if it hadn't clearly been following her. One thing or the other would have been strange enough but all together it was a real oddity.
"Why, hello," he said, his voice clear but soft. "Where'd you come form?"

"Just over the hill!" she said cheerily, looking over her shoulder to punctuate her point. "Its so nice out, so I thought we'd go for a walk."
She smiled way up at him. "I didn't think we'd run into anyone! What are you doing on this lovely day?"

Chane looked up towards the hill. Was there a colony full of tiny horses over there? His interest was peaked. Maybe once this tiny horse left he'd go check. Asking would be easier but he felt silly.
"I'm looking for my rock," because that sounded so much less silly. "Well, it was a pebble... bigger then that but not that big. It was bright blue, but, it doesn't matter all too much. Guess there's not normally too many people around here?"
Secret colony of tiny-horses. Had to be it.

"Your rock?" She tilted her head, looking around on the ground. A blue rock? That was unusual. She looked curious as she cast her eyes around. "I don't think I see it."
"People? Oh, I don't know, really. I live over the hill with my two-legger and Ameer. I don't see too many other horses, though. We live alone."
She blinked up at him. "Do you live with anyone?"

He shook his head no. Maybe he had at one point but he didn't now. He knew what a two legger was but...
"What's an ameer?" he didn't sound the least bit like he was trying to make fun of her.

She looked confused for a moment, then a look of realization crossed her face. "Oh! Ameer isn't a thing, he's my friend!" She looked around, seeming to notice for the first time that he wasn't there. "I don't know where he went though.." she said, frowning a bit. "I wonder where he went..."

Chane looked more then a little confused as he turned his head to search for her 'friend'. At no point did it occur to him that the friend might be the squirrel. After all, who named squirrels? Obviously if this friend was anything it must be another tiny-horse. He smiled. Tiny-horses were cute.
Above them a magpie flitted through the trees.

"Oh well. I'm sure he'll come back." She turned back to the big horse, smiling up at him. "You're so big!" she said, with a soft laugh. "You must have eaten all of your vegetables!"
"Oh I'm sorry! I don't think I introduced myself! My name is Vasilisa, but you can call me Vasi!"

"Vasi!" he liked the short form. It was... short. Like her! "You have a very pretty name!" Maybe it was a short horse tradition. All short horses had short names... or short forms. It made sense to him anyways.
"My name is Chane. I... Don't know about eating all my vegetables but, I guess so?"

Vasi beamed, glad that he was using her nickname. She loved her name, but it tickled her pink, excuse the pun, when someone used her nickname. Vasilisa was too formal! Vasi was just right.

"Oh you don't need to say Mr!" he laughed. "Just my name is fine. I'm no one important or anything."
Even if he had eaten all his veggies. He gave her a big smile.

"Don't be silly!" she said, beaming right back at him. "I bet you're plenty important. Everyone is in their own way. Even little me!" She laughed, tossing her mane out of her eyes.
"Someone big like you, you've got to be important to someone. And even if you're important to just one person, you're irreplaceable!"

"Uh..." well... the truth was he wasn't important to anyone. Or at least no one he'd met or could remember. "Do you really think so?"
He wasn't so sure, "What if there isn't anyone?"
