Recycling of the Pixel Kind
With Earth Day coming up, we thought we’d join in and do some recycling of our own. After 7 years, we’re finally going to do some username recycling! Don’t worry, if you’re here to read this post, your username won’t be recycled because it’s currently in use.
Starting this week, we will begin recycling usernames from accounts that have not been active (not logged in) for 2 years or more. The purpose of this is to free up some of the more desirable usernames that are currently bound to inactive accounts, and allow active and engaged users to enjoy them!
For those of you who are curious, the inventories in these accounts will not be touched and if the user returns, we can reset their username to something new and they won’t have to pay the fee to change their username (if applicable).

What do you think about this?
(Chances are it will effect GS Cast Members who haven't signed in awhile and will give the older ones more of a chance to have the original name....not that I'm entirely sure though.)
Aside from the GS related issue, I do think that it's a good thing because there are alot of users who are inactive or that use mules that haven't signed into in awhile.

Thats really going to help. I know several users who open new accounts just to snag a name and then never use the account. It will be nice to see what kinds of names free up. 3nodding

Im excited, omg, theres a user name I want thats been taken since 04, and the user only has 11 posts D:!!! Hopefully no one else will take it X3

Its a good thing, since there is a lot of people that are asses to make mules just to use a name so no one can use it. There is one that I love to use and hope it does not get taken O_o
I understand the whole GS thing, but it would free up the names for others instead of using numbers in their names. It's not our fault that they are inactive. We can't sit around for months and hope they come back. This is a good opportunity for the guild and others around Gaia to have their desired name.

I support the idea, personally, for pretty much the reasons above: namely that it'll free up some names that probably would have become available much sooner in a smaller forum.

Good, I say! There are SO many people in Gaia it only makes sense. 2 years sounds a bit too recent... maybe 3 or 4 would have been more fair.

That'll also reset usernames that have been banned.
But what happens to those who are just inactive and then do try to log in later? It says they'll have a chance to change their username. But that also means that their password will still be accepted. Wouldn't that mean that one username would have two passwords?

Update: It turns out that they won't be doing this after all, well at least right now. They are still working out the kinks with it.
