User ImageEllette was well and truly alone. Her hoofbeats seemed as loud as thunder in the barren landscape she trotted through. The shaggy plains stretched as far as the eye could see, the soil here was thin and sour, supporting only the rankest vegitation. There was little water although here and there she had stumbled across a shallow pool or sometimes a bog, always they were surrounded by thick stands of black reeds that rattled in the wind. The landscape was the most desolate she had ever come across and she felt a deep sorrow permeating even the air she breathed here. Despite her efforts to retain a positive attitude, she felt a bleak darkness within her chest that seemed to grow and sink its' spindly tendrils deeper into her heart with each day she spent here. She felt tired, in both her spirit and her limbs, she had pushed herself to try and break free of this landscape but despite her strength and speed she had been here for almost a week now. Her facials were harsh and stern as she finally allowed herself to stop. Her sides heaved and her coat was flecked with sweat but she had covered many miles that day and it was time to rest and allow her body to recuperate. She felt a small spark of hope rekindling, she could see the twisted dark shapes of trees in the waning sunlight, true, their branches were bare and their trunks withered but after the unrelieved flatness of the past week, they were a balm to her tired gaze. She struggled over to what seemed the largest of these trees and laid down gratefully among the knotted root system that had ripped free from the dry earth long before. The earth was packed down here, as though others had traveled this way before, the thought worried her, she had no one to keep watch through the night. She scooted into the maze of roots further until she felt satisfied that her back was protected, hoping that her dappled brown coat would help to conceal her from unfriendly eyes. She scanned the descending darkness one last time before she allowed herself to relax and drift off into a light slumber.

Darkness of the night shrouded the black winged Angeni as he walked through the trees, his cape silently dragging on the ground, avoiding the terrible fate of getting stuck on random twigs by some great feat of years of practice. Branches reached out trying to grab hold of the Soquili as he passed, they were long and finger like in appearance, giving the god the feeling he was being watched by seeingless eyes. He shook his head, Háidēs was just letting his imagination get to him due to lack of sleep; in truth the black winged God enjoyed the darkness, for it hid the fear and distain that was always in other soquili’s eyes, never in his life, has a living creature, except his mother, looked upon him with acceptance. As the years of hatred towards him increased, Háidēs felt his heart turn into an unbreakable stone. He was a pariah to other Soquili and he liked it that way, he did not want to put on a façade to have others like him, it was not in his nature. Bitterness swelled in the stallion’s chest as he remembered the mares throwing themselves at him, trying to make him change and when he did not even react, hateful words spewed from their maws. Rumors flew about the God, they were filled with lies, but that did not matter to the other Soquili, it was just a game to them.

His silent wanderings had led him to a dark clearing with tall trees offering protection; the night was silent except for the sound of deep peaceful breathing. Háidēs’ ears twitched, it was not just his breathing he heard in the silent night but another living breathing creature as well. Háidēs squinted into the cloak of darkness trying to spot the creature the deep breathing belonged to. The only reason the other creature had not noticed his presence was the fact that it was deep in the world of sleep, a place where the god could be as well. Not wanting to wake of the being and face the look of hatred and fear, the god turned to leave to find another place to rest for the night, a place far away from the disdainful looks of the living.
