So I am always tired. All the time, no matter how much sleep I get. I always wake up exhausted. And by 3pm its a struggle to stay awake, which makes it really hard to get any work done. The only time I'm not tired is around 8pm, when I can actually go to sleep. I could be falling asleep all day but will not be able to get to sleep easily after 8. :/
How much sleep I get doesn't seem to have any correlation to how tired I am. I never wake up fully rested.

This is me also.
I am able to not be tired all day by getting less sleep. Six hours is perfect.

Afternoon drowsiness is incredibly common. I've found that after school, like 3.30 - 4.30, I'm so out of it.
So either I just lay low for a bit, watch TV, eat some food etc. OR I do something that's energetic and rejuvenating, like exercising. I wouldn't do any work now, it's unlikely to be a productive time anyway, so I just save that until later. Like at 9pm when I'm feeling more awake.
On the worst days, I'll take a 20 minute nap. Be careful with naps though, you have to make sure you don't nap for more than 20 mins or you'll go into the wrong sleep phases and it'll mess up your sleep rhythm.
I am anaemic though so I'm just tired all day. But the afternoon dip is the worst.

I could never take a 20 minute nap, simply because it takes anywhere from 20-35 minutes for me to fall asleep, and about 15 when I am really tired. The damn alarm would probably go off before I fell asleep. My mind just RACES when I lay down.
Once I am asleep, I am a very light sleeper. Small noises will wake me up unless I was exhausted or drunk when I fell asleep. My mornign alarm is set to the same beep as my picture messages, and on the lowest setting, and I still often get it on the first three beeps.
I have found however that working out midday really helps with the mid-day sleepies attack thing, and it's not just a bunch of fitness people blowing smoke up your a**. I do 30 minutes of cardio at 1:00 and I'm good for the rest of the day. I also have light breakfasts and lunches. Like just some oatmeal (sometimes I'll have a hardboiled egg as well) for breakfast and cottage cheese and fruit for lunch. Heavier meals make me sleepy.

I'm guessing you have a medical condition somewhere secretly in your body like you're not getting enough of so and so or this and this.

I have this problem too.
How much time do you spend in direct sunlight each day?
I was always told sunlight gets rid of Melatonin, too much Melatonin makes you sleepy in the morning and drowsy.

I am anaemic though so I'm just tired all day. But the afternoon dip is the worst. If I watch TV, I'll just fall asleep. From 3-8 I have to fight to stay awake. Its really disturbing my work schedule. Napping for 20 minutes just seems to make it harder to get out of bed. Combined with my end-of-the-year lack of motivation I'm not likely to get anything done. D: @Xippy: I'm in school all day so my exercise is limited to walking to classes, which is only a few minutes of walking. @Moose: I don't get that much sun. Like I said, I'm in school all day and if I'm not in school, I'm at home working on school work. I'm only outside to walk to and from my car and to classes. I have an intense month of studying and testing coming up so I really need to be able to work/study through the afternoon and wake up rested.

Having looked into it more, you're probably just a night owl. Do you find that when you don't have a schedule to keep (like on holidays), your sleep pattern changes to sleeping in until the afternoon and staying awake until early morning? It's very common, I know I do it, and it's literally just because you're a night person.
Not that this helps, since unless you could somehow change your lifestyle to a night-shift kind of thing, there's not much you can do but grin and bear it. But uh blame society for not fitting into their silly timetable, not yourself!

Yeah, over the summer I usually sleep during the day. But its odd because I hate being up late. I love sunlight and daytime.

HOWEVER, a while ago i started going to bed very early and i'd wake up early and rested and all that jazz, it was AMAZING. but only practical for school, social stuff didn't fit into it very well. i'd go to bed at 7-8pm and wake up at like 5am or something. you might not be getting the right vitamins or something, 'cause you're only supposed to start getting less productive after like 16 hours of being awake.

I did that for one summer! Went to bed at 8 and woke up at 4am. It was really nice to see the sun rise everyday and be awake before everyone else.
