But I'm starting to think that I have a serious thing for musicians in general.
Maybe it's because I recognize how I think - I put everything to music in some way or another - and that I hope it makes more sense to people who are into music. I mean...I went off on this whole tangent about associating colors with music when talking to this amazing pianist the other night, and he understood it perfectly (and compared me to a composer, which was kind of flattering), but if I had been talking to anyone not as involved in music, I would have sounded absolutely batshit insane.
Or maybe it's because I see that 85% of music is being able to be open and emotionally vulnerable, and when I listen to someone play, I can't help but feel like I'm hearing a bit of themselves as well.
Am I making any sense at all, or am I just flat-out crazy?

Tsuki_San La Traviata I went off on this whole tangent about associating colors with music Do you have synesthesia? That's insane. You can associate colors with music sometimes and not necessarily link it to synesthesia. Also, I think people with synesthesia are actually considered a little genius. cool

I don't think that's crazy at all. Music creates moods. Moods are associated with colours. It might not even be synesthesia, because music has always been associated with colours. The Ancient Greeks used to think of colour as a scale, that like musical notes, colours too had a harmonious existence. Newton divided the rainbow into 7 colours because that's how many intervals are in an octave. I think music appreciation is one of those things that nearly everyone has on some level - something that you don't need to have as a musician. In fact, I think that musicians sometimes just refine emotions which are inherent in our understanding and appreciation of music. Or they know how it works, like why it affects us the way it does. You might be interested in this Ted Talk in which Benjamin Zander argues that classical music can be understood and enjoyed by everyone, and music in its wider context is something which invokes passion and emotion.

I'm not much of a musician (I play a bit of piano and mallets and such), but I absolutely love talking about music. I could go on for days. Unfortunately, I'm very opinionated and can also be a bit of a douche when discussing music, as the Coheed and Cambria fans of this guild are aware. But yeah, I totally see where you're coming from.
I need to find myself a lady I can talk about music with.

I love discussing music, and I don't think that's insane either. That's freaking awesome.
As to dating within your major, I never thought much about it. But now I think someone in your general field is just way more connected to you then someone in another.

I think you have a good point, but I think it applies more to fields of the fine arts: when you're performing, you're expressing yourself.
Of course I'm an English major and my boyfriend is an engineer. XD I agree with you though.

Nah I totally feel your girlie. I put everything into a historical context and it's just how I think and I'm always attracted to people who excel at that.
Plus you know, musicians are hot. whee

Thanks so much, everyone. It's nice to get some perspective on my own little insecurities.
