To tell you the truth I am not against violence. I play violent video games, I watch violent movie, I want to join the military! I do agree with a lot of Buddhist ways but I just don't think I could follow the path.

Oh, and the violent movies/games/military thing: I'm into stuff like that too. (Just got done playing Call of Duty, actually). It's just entertainment, after all.

Well when I say I want to join the military, I want to join and do a job that may require to kill someone. Now I'm not joining just so I can say I could kill someone, I want the job because they say it's one of the hardest jobs to get. (Sniper)

According to my own personal and Buddhist beliefs, reincarnation does exist. Some of us have to go through lifetime after lifetime after lifetime until we can find the enlightened state and give up the things that hold us back. If you can't let any of it go, then this might not be your lifetime for enlightenment, which is fine. There are people who practice Buddhism their whole lives and never attain, but they practice anyway. Just keep the good in your heart and keep your intentions positive and karma will not punish you so harshly. I wish you the best of luck and the best of karma, my friend.

Much less chance I'll have to kill someone if I'm a maintenance guy. ninja Good luck!

Well, Buddhism isn't for everyone. Religion is like a medicine, different Medicines cure different ailments; so different Religions are needed for different spiritual needs. I wouldn't take aspirin to cure lung cancer, likewise I need Buddhism for MY spiritual needs at this moment. Just food for thought... I'm sure whatever Religion/Spiritual Path you take will make you happy in the end. heart 4laugh

I like violent video games and movies. They're exciting. And I was in the military. And if my bones were in any shape for it, and if it paid better, I'd consider re-enlisting.
But you can still be a Buddhist and like those things. I mean, it's not like we're going to have a real zombie invasion. XD And if we did, I wouldn't waste time worrying about harming the zombies when my loved ones' lives are at stake.
Also, the military has Buddhist services, so being a Buddhist and being a soldier can't really be mutually exclusive. Not every military job puts you in the position where you're going to have to kill someone.
And by the way, if you walk in and tell them you want to pick a job where you can kill people, they're probably going to bar you from joining. For all our safety, we don't want guns in the hands of people who are bloodthirsty. Though unfortunately they don't give psychiatric exams before letting people have weapons. Scary things happen.

i find it interesting to see this kind of post in here, and it makes me feel less insecure about postingin this guild. smile see, i'm not Buddhist myself, in fact i have alot more Hindu, Shinto and Chaos Magic leanings then Buddhist, as well as Native American, Druidic and Heathen Spirituality/Practice, and have no intention of becoming a Buddhist. however, recently i have been interested in exploring Buddhism again, particularly Zen Buddhism at the moment. ^_^ i am certain that there are things for me to learn and gain from it, which will enhance my Spiritual journey. i have had a short exploration of Buddhism before, and it has mostly stuck with me.
