She'd run out of supplies.
Well, that was a lie. Giselle would never allow herself to be stranded without the proper tools for success, but she had noticed her stock was actually beginning to dwindle. While home for the weekend, she had made her list, checked it thrice and asked her mother for some money to go to the mall. Knowing Giselle as she did, her mother had no problem handing her daughter cash. The blond would never spend it on anything trivial.
It turned out Giselle was also a rather thrifty spender, only buying brand name if the generic's quality was suspect. Two plastic bags later, she returned to the mall proper. She had been asked to bring one of her father's watches to the jeweler. Not to get it fixed, of course, but to get a quote to see what it might cost. There were benefits of shopping around, after all.
However, the teenager's plans were quickly waylaid when she spotted a small child wandering by herself. While naturally Giselle would not be bothered, children rushed ahead of their parents all the time, this one looked particularly troubled. With a grudging sense of duty (a very, very grudging sense of duty), the blond approached the child and glanced around for an equally upset adult. Finding none, she addressed the girl.
"Are you looking for someone?"

The little girl, striking with her smooth dark skin and coffee colored hair, stared at Giselle with a quivering lip she was trying valiantly to control. She clutched a barbie doll with butchered hair as though it was a talisman against all harm as she examined Giselle, evidently examining her for signs of being trustworthy before she blurted.
"ODDY GOT LOST. I don't know where to find him!"
So evidently this mysterious "Oddy" wasn't her. But for all she was explaining it could be her friend the invisible pink polka dotted Moose.
"Can you help me find him, the stupidhead?" She added the last bit with great vehemence, and a guilty look. Evidently one was not supposed to say "Stupidhead."

For the love of all things imperialistic, please do not let this child cry!
Taking a deep breath and counting from ten to one, Giselle nodded and crouched down to the girl's level, hoping to open up the lines of communication a little more. "I suppose I can help you find Oddy," she agreed. After all, she did offer when she had approached the young child.
"Can you tell me what Oddy looks like?" So far, all she knew was that he was a male. That left a lot of room, really. "Is he your caretaker? Where did you last see him, and approximately how long ago?" Already formulating a plan to quickly check the mall circumference, she asked the child one more question, seemingly oblivious asking her to recall so much information so quickly might not be possible. "Do you know if he will be looking for you?"
