Dusk had begun to settle in, and the moon was faintly visible. The sky was overcast with clouds in hues of pink and orange as the sun ducked below the horizon. A chilly breeze fluttered up through the air and across the nose of Pyros, who sat atop a pile of crumbling ruins.
His nose twitched at the sweet scent of the air as he adjusted his position to become more comfortable. He loved high places as it made him feel as if he were perched atop the world. He glanced down at the grassy field swaying in the wind, the rolling gusts making waves as if it were a pool of water. He adjusted himself again, still unable to become comfortable.
His black fur shined in the rays of sunlight that remained, and the slight darkness made his blue markings seem to glow.
He folded his wings around his body and finally rested himself on the chilly ground. He sighed and closed his eyes, unable to sleep yet trying his hardest to drift off. After a very short while he opened his eyes again, and sat up.
He was restless, and for understandable reasons. Every single day was the same and his life was a repeating tune that started over every morning. To sum things up simply he was bored with life, though it wasn't always so. He began to think to himself when suddenly he heard faint footsteps, kicking stones softly. His ears perked up and the fur on his back stood on end. He prepared to bear his teeth and attack if needed...

Layla was wandering around, searching for the 'right' place, somewhere she should be and get the attention she felt she deserved, everywhere she had been so far was full of dirty males, and rude females, it wasn't HER fault that they were too low down for her to be around.

Sighing she moved towards some ruins, her thinking was stone was cleaner than the dirty ground, she loved to keep her creamy/lilac coat clean and tidy, rarely was there a hair out of place, pushing the clip in her hair further back, making it tighter, and jungled her bracelet a little, kicking some stones as she made her way upwards, watching her feet so she didnt tread in any muck along the way.

Pyros, hair still on end, spotted a flick of an off-white tail. He growled in a very low tone as a warning for whatever it was to back away. He dug his claws into the pebbles around him and spread his wings out to make himself appear larger in size, as was his natural instinct.

Thoughts of the years before flitted through his mind as he recalled the slaughter that took someone very dear to him...
it was an absolute bloodbath...

As the memories that he had longed to forget flooded his mind, he assumed the worst and let out a very loud growl this time. He narrowed his brow and awaited whatever was coming toward him, it was large from what he could see. He listened and the sound of scuffling steps grew closer, and became a bit nervous but still stood on edge.

Laly stopped and looked up, she'd heard a sort of growling sound, but then it stopped, moving forwards again she kicked the small stones and pebbles out of the way. She paused again, now she was SURE she'd heard something that time, and noticed a pebble roll down from the ruins, moving her head sharply upwards she stared into the ruins, seeing something moving up there, suddenly a larger growl came from the ruins. She inhaled sharply in a brief moment of fear, then she frowned i want to go up there, NOTHING is going to stop me! she thought, steadfastly mocing back up towards the ruins.

Pyros had decided, he was going to charge at whatever was there. He couldn't stand the anticipation any longer, and with a deep breath he heaved forward at full speed. He ducked his head down, bearing his horns and flattened his wings against his body to become more slick and aerodynamic. As he rounded a corner he saw what had been there all along, and caught her sweet scent as he tried to stop. He unfolded his wings like a parachute and dug his claws into the ground.
It was no use, they were going to collide!
He looked up so that his horns would not hurt the cream colored female before him, and just in time too. Before he knew it, he was crashing...

Taking a deep breath she stepped up onto a slight rise, determined to get to where she wanted to be, not alot stopped ehr if she wanted something, sunddenly she heard a thudding. Her eyes grew wide a darkly coloured Shakaiyo was charging her, head down, she tried to dodge out of the way but he was too close, too fast, surprised as he lifted his head, then she was tumbling, rolling with him as he crashed into her side, landing a few feet away with an OOOF, she lay on her side, trying to catch a breath as her side hurt.

A little embarrassed at jumping the gun and charging toward her, then crashing, he stood up and shook off the dirt that he had collected while rolling. His eyes narrowed and a frown spread across his darkly colored face.

"You were in my way" he scoffed, talking down to her as if she were a child. "You should be more careful, and not so ignorant. Tch."

Pyros wasn't always so arrogant, though over the lonely years he had grown bitter and thus his attitude changed. He had never imagined that he would end up this way, though now he payed to attention to the changed that had taken place. His mind had been made up for awhile now, there was no reason to be nice, no reason to befriend anyone.

A small inkling of wonder did enter his mind as he wanted to know if the female was OK after their collision, but then brushed it off and forced it out of his thoughts. He sat down and began licking his fur clean, pretending to pay no attention to her.

Layla breathed slowly, forcing herself to breathe through the pain. She laid her ears flat at his comment "Excuse me?!! in YOUR way?" she snorted indignant, eyes blazing, "i wasn't sneaking or anything, if that was you growling then you heard me coming" she said, through gritted teeth as she got to her feet, wincing when she took a deep breath, turning her own head to her coat, brushing and licking herself clean, hissing as she moved over her unjured side dont think anthing is broken, but look at me! i'm all dirty! she thought outraged, turning to the male she almost screeched "Look what you DID!!" and she moved over, bringing her face almost levle with his.

Pyros looked up from cleaning his fur, stunned at how close she had gotten. He looked into her eyes and realized that she was injured, and it pain. Hard as he tried to push it out of his mind, he couldn't help but care at least a bit, still determined not to let it show.

"Well, you're obviously incapable of caring for your own clumsy self right now," he snorted. "I'll take pity on you and let you come with me I suppose, even though this was all your fault."

He looked at her with a displeased look on his face, forcefully different from his true concern.

"Pity?!! MY FAULT?!!" she cried, "it was quite obviously YOUR fault... YOU crashed into me" she said, bristling, her fur standing on end, she was getting mad at this male now, who apparently felt sorry for her, "i DONT need looking after" she said, starting to walk away. She made it a few steps and stumbled, jarring her side again, letting out a small involuntary yelp.

Without saying a word, he knew he had to help. It would be against his inner nature to just leave her there, helpless.

He ducked under her and scooped her up onto his back, gently as not to hurt her anymore than she already was. He walked for awhile, not saying a single word until they reached the forest, where he set her down on a patch of soft and lush grass. He sniffed the air to make sure there was no one else lurking nearby, and then pawed aside a pile of leaves to reveal a very large hole in the trunk of a tree.

The tree itself had to be very old, for it was gigantic and towered over many of the others. It was so wide that if wanted you could run laps around the trunk. The bottom was odd but strong like a protective cage.

"It may not be much, but it's the safest place for you to stay."

He thought about his days spent there with her, and it seemed like another lifetime. He missed her so...and hadn't been back to this spot since she was around.

He shook his head slightly to clear his thoughts, and again scooped up the injured female without a word and carried her into the large burrow within the tree.

Layla squealed as he scooped her up, "PUT ME DOWN!" she screeched into his ear as he carried her, horrified she was being manhandled, but it was to no avail, since he just carried on. She was very relieved when he put her down, and despite herself, she was pleased at the spot int the grass he had picked, then, without too much warning he'd picked her up again?! "Now this is TOO much, PUT.....ME....DOWN" she yelled at him as he carried her into the tree hollow, then she gasped at the sheer size of the place, head craned upwards, eyes wide as she took it all in.

"Look" he started, " You're hurt and I'll admit I had some part in it. You just...startled me."

He was speaking to her yet his eyes wandered around the canopy of bark the intertwined into the ground. There were gaps in the wood but they were very small and remained covered by vines. The ground was covered in a softly woven mat of a cotton like material, and there was a pit in the middle- most likely for keeping warm or cooking.
He remembered it all faintly, the thoughts and memories he had strained to erase because he thought it would be too much to bear.
"Well, there's nothing for food here. Can you manage to stay put while I go out and get a few things?"
His back was turned to her, ready to head out the door. He did so without waiting for a response from her as if it were a rhetorical question.
He wandered outside and re-covered the opening to the burrow with vines and leaves, to hide her appearance and scent.

Pyros knew the best places to find healthy food and luscious fruit, and he spread his wings and flew off to do so.

Layla opened her mouth to retort, but she she stood she gasped, she was sure a rib was broken now, probably cracked before, but the jarring had made it worse. admitting defeat for now she sat back down and set to grooming herself, making sure every hair was in place, at the same time she checked out the place, it looked very spacious and nice, better than that, apart from a few cobwebs, it was clean.

The male mentioned food, and her stomach growled before she could reply, giving him a strange look as she nodded to him in response, she lay down leaning on her uninjured side, tucking her neat little paws under her body, curling her tail around herself, she noticed a faint lingering odour of him and ... another scent, but that was fainter still, barely even there really.

Pyros glided above the treetops until he reached a clearing, where he knew the best fruit grew.
He neatly folded up a large leaf into a satchel and slung it around his neck, and began filling it with food.
Berries, melons, a few vegetables, and some herbs for their healing properties and flavor.
He then jetted off to the nearby stream and easily caught 6 fish, all ones that he knew to be both delicious and healthy. He tied a vine around them and wrapped them in a separate palm leaf as not to get a fishy scent on the other food.
With everything he needed in tow, he headed back to the hut where the injured female remained, or so he hoped.

I didn't even think to ask her name... he thought.

He was nearly to the burrow when he realized she may need some sort of wrap for her injuries, and stopped to pluck a few very large but very soft leaves. Again he took off toward the burrow.
