He floped over the side of his counter and sighed a bit. Another slow day. Maybe this time he can get the portal to work right. That would be a nice change! Something working the way he intended it to, but really he knew the risk of things not working out when he first signed up to be a mage that catered to the ways of chaos. He stared at the door for a good long time before he pushed himself off and away from the counter. Perhaps he should just give up and move on to other endeavors?
Maybe.
Wylde started to wander the shelves and straighten them up with a bit of a soft hum just a small simple melody that repeated mindlessly.

Anethae had started this game recently. It was called 'know your surroundings', and pretty much entailed going into every single building she could get to within walking distance. She had been reading a book on Parenting, and one of the major things was to know your surroundings and to pick out the 'unsafe' areas that your child shouldn't play in.
Thus far, most of her travels had taken her to a few very nice shops, some interestingly stange ones, and a few butcher shops. She assumed a butcher shop was a place a child shouldn't be, and thus wrote down in her notebook to avoid that area with Erich in tow.
Yes, she was doing all of this to better herself as a Parent...and yet she had left Erich home alone. What? He was napping! He'd be fine, really. What trouble could a toddler get into while he was sleeping all alone? None, that's what.
Today's first stop was a curious shop called 'Thuk', which she couldn't tell what it was, aside from a horrible word with a speech impediment, or the noise she heard axes make when impaling a human skull on those gross TV shows.
So she opened the door to the shop, stepping inside to look around with wide almond shaped eyes, clutching a notebook against her chest with one arm.
"Hello...?"

She got his attention pretty much right away. He was staring at a jar of eyeballs thoughtfully when she came through the door. His eyes gazed back toward her and his face broke into a wide hopeful grin, "Company! Hello, friend! How are you?" He turned and moved toward her his hands folded in front of him. Oh it was always so wonderful when the day consented to grant his wishes and bring fresh meat into the store for him to play with or at least talk into doing things for him. It never occurred to him that going down stairs into a basement like area was something horror stories were made of.
"I'm Wylde Riddim proud owner of this shop. How may I assist you?" he asked cheerfully with what seemed to be no guile at all in his expression. Though he had plenty of guile to spare.

"Friend?" She parroted, for a moment caught off guard. He wasn't her friend! Oh, but he must have said it as a generalization...she'd certainly like to be his friend, he looked interesting! "Oh! My name is Anethae! It is very nice to meet you! I'm actually here to look at all the shops I can." She informed the nice-looking man, smiling as a result of his cheerfull tone. Well, this certainly could be a child friendly place!
"I actually have some questions for you, if you'd be so kind as to answer..." Looking rather optimistic, she opened her notebook to a blank page, drawing the pen from the coils. As much as she wanted to just talk to Wylde, she had research to do! "On a scale of one to ten, how Toddler friendly is this shop?"

"What a lovely name for such a lovely lady, pleased to make your acquaintance," he chattered happily and he started to move around once more and simply waved for her to follow with no rhyme or reason to it and began to head to a door downstairs, "I would love to answer questions! I hope you don't mind if I answer while I work. So much to get done so many things to gather," he replied.
He paused a second at her question, "I'd give it a five so long as they don't try to open jars and try to swallow the contents and what not. I have a lot of things that aren't edible about since this shop caters mostly to mages." Wylde opened the door and began to head down the spiral staircase.

"Thank you! I like your name, too." Thae chuckled with a bit of a blush, nodding a bit and trailing after him with her notebook still open. She didn't mind moving, and she didn't think it would be very nice to stay still and yell cross the store if he continued moving like he was.
As he answered her question she wrote down what he said...at least most of it. Near the end she found herself distraced as they went down the staircase, finding it mildly amusing that these stairs went in a circle. Her stairs didn't!
"Mages, really? Hum..." Now that Thae focused on him, she could sense, and even somewhat see, a crazy amount of rather unbridled magic dancing and spinning around him. She never noticed before in her attempt at being a good Mom...but wow, he certainly had what seemed like too much of it!
"Um, I don't want to offend you...but I think I would make this shop a two, or a one...the magic here is unsettling." She shivered a bit, closing her book and rubbing her upper arms. The gem on her forehead seemed eager somehow, wanting to get in on the magic that just seemed to snap around, uncontrolled. Thae wasn't scared for herself, in fact she was quite comfortable in this place of magic. It intrigued her and piqued her curiousity, but she certainly couldn't bring Erich here.

"Haha, thank you dearest Anethae, I appreciate the compliment," he replied airily.
Wylde felt her focus a bit more on him and didn't seem to mind as he moved down the stairs. His oddly colored eyes gazed back at her with mild interest as his shoulders shrugged, "My dear lady, I wouldn't let so much as a mouse in my shop if I didn't make the proper adjustments and precautions. Magic is too dangerous otherwise. I assure you everything here is tightly controlled even though it might not seem it," he soothed with a small grin and shuffled across the floor once on the bottom of the stairs.
The room itself was particularly bursting with magical energy. The most prominent and noticeable object in the room was a door way on a dais that filled with shifting scenery that oozed magic. Currently it was paused on a rather peculiar scene where some toast sat on the counter. There was a sign next to the door that read, 'EXIT ONLY. DO NOT ENTER.'

Wylde's soothing words brushed side her fears, and Thae found herself nodding. Well, that was responsible of him! It was a very good answer, for sure. "Okay...a five it is." She trailed after him still, moving out of pure curiousity, and stared with interest at the door, her head tilting a bit while she stared at it. Wow...the magic was practically flooding from that thing! But...
"...A...piece of toast?" She questioned curiously, wrinkling her nose a bit. All that magic for...breakfast? Her gaze drifted to the sign, reading it...you could only exit that door? What if you were hungry? That was a bit of a tease, wasn't it? Indeed it was. "Erich loves peanut butter and jelly on toast." She said a little quieter, realizing that...she should probably be getting home to the little spawn soon.

"Five is a very good number. Not too risky and not too safe," he responded as he began to pay no mind to her for the moment as he worked though in truth he was paying full attention to her for various reasons.
When she spoke and thought her criticisms either the door took offense or the scene was now playing out now that she had her eyes on it the plate toast and plate fell to the ground with a nice jarring crash and suddenly there were two people arguing one male and the other female. As the argument go to a certain juncture the door suddenly flashed and made the whirring sound of a camera and out came a polaroid that soon developed into a rather blurry image.
"Mind getting that for me?"

Thae nodded briefly to Wylde's response, but really...her attention was on the toast. Something was happening! It fell? There was an argument? She found herself flinching when the door flashed and made that curiously strange noice. Her head tilting once more, she watched the polaroid flitter to the floor, and even leaned forward to try and see what was on it. The outcome of the fight, perhaps?
Hm, or not.
"Ah, okay." The doppleganger said, wandering over to kneel beside it, picking it up and getting back to her feet. Looking at it and turning it over in her hand. Interesting! Perhaps this is from the other side of the door? Well, someone might be missing an...admittedly not very good photo of someone.
"Here you go." She offered, holding it out to him, like maybe he'd find a way to return it.

He took it and looked it over thoughtfully. Wylde took a clipboard with his free hand and offered that to Thae in place of the Foto, "Mind signing this guest roster for me? I like keeping track of such things," he said cheerfully.
The mage continued to look over the Foto as if he was seeking something from it or waiting for it to tell him some sort of deep and personal secret that it might withhold. Thus far it told him nothing.
The clipboard was just a listing of various names or so it seemed. No magic or anything seemed to issue from it...

...He kept track of people who picked up blurry photographs? Or maybe he was keeping track of people who were there when something fell out of that curious door? Still, she had no reason not to...it wasn't like Anethae was her full name, thus he couldn't exercize control over her by using her name.
"Sure!" She said pleasantly enough, reaching out to take the clipboard, using her own pen to sign her name onto the paper itself. Since Wylde had calmed her about the magic in the shop she had stopped paying attention to it, more content to see it at face value, like the rest of the world. As far as she knew, this really was just a sheet of paper that guests signed.
Once she was done she handed it back, looking around. "This is a very interesting shop." She commented idly, her original purpose of being here momentarily lost.

"Oh! Why thank you. I like it. My brother was a bit fussy with me when I decided to open it. Claimed I was too flighty to keep it up. Several months and I am still here," he chattered cheerfully as he looked over the Foto. When the clipboard was passed back he took it and offered her the Foto back with a small smile, "You can keep this. I am afraid it wasn't what I was thinking it was. The door spits out images now and again but sometimes it doesn't give me the ones I want or need to study. Very unpredictable and naughty that door," he said happily.
With his other hand he put away the clipboard and waited.
"Any other concerns you wish to ask me about?"

"Well...tell your Brother that I think you are doing a fine job. It isn't easy keeping all that magic in check!" She said cheerfully, not sensing a single ounce of ill will, or even anything 'off' from the man. Not one. The foto was taken back, looked at, then slipped into her notebook for now, for safe keeping.
"I'm sorry, I think your door doesn't much like me." Especially since she was mentally doubting it's sanity! Crazy mind reading door, not being helpful to Wylde at all! Tsk tsk or something. When asked about other concerns, she looked thoughtful.
"Hmm...No, actually...I should probably be heading home, my son should be waking up soon." And he'd probably be hungry...she didn't want him to eat everything in the kitchen because she wasn't there! "Thank you for your time...I can assume the way out is the same as the way in?"

"I shall," he replied and shrugged at her observation that the door didn't like her. "It's a door I doubt it thought much of anything going on around it." Wylde said in a reassuring tone the door seemed to respond with showing scenery of a thunderstorm. Wylde simply stuck his tongue out at the door and began to move with her to the way up the stairs when she said she didn't need anything from him.
"Well I'll see you later. It is not a problem and yes the way out is the same as the way in. I make sure of that. Would hate for you to exit and end up in a field of flowers in the middle of nowhere," he laughed cheerfully and let her go.
