Serandite had made captain. She was still sitting there, a little baffled and dumbfounded. She was never the type to think ahead-- think ahead of a future that would possibly be linked to ranking up. Recent memories floated through her mind. It seemed strange to think of herself as a "Captain"-- everything was ranked up but she was simply the same. Upgraded weapon. Upgraded outfit. When she looked back at the time she was a captain, it seemed too far yet so close.

She had even tried teleporting several times, the first few times leaving her quite out of breath. She wasn't used to it but she wasn't completely new to it either. But teleporting wasn't as important as practicing her weapon or getting familiar with her youma. She had only done one of three out of the checklist and that was mastering the ability to make her bunny dance.

Boy, Loppy could put up a good dance. The spinning, the twirling and the tiny leap that the small-sized bunny made. Yep, she was using her skills as a captain very productively.

As a practiced goal setter, Wolframite always looked ahead to spur on his motivation. If he didn’t have a goal, he didn’t have a point to work hard towards, and what was life without some sort of accomplishment? Having something in the back of your mind was always something he was use to and while this usually involved track or getting better at his other hobbies, it was extended to the Negaverse. Wolframite wanted to get better, and his first thoughts when the first shock of becoming Wolframite wore away was where did he go from here and how did he get there. He didn’t know all the ranks, but he did know that after Lieutenants came Captains, and he’d seen Captains. They were the ones who bowed up front to the King and Queen, entrusted with the highest priority missions, and who had the most power aside from their leaders, Charonite and Nealite.

Just as he wanted to be a captain, he valued the captains. These were his role models, having been down the same road he was now on, and they were inspiring. If they could do it, he could too, and just imagine that?!

It was why when his teacher, aka Serandite, texted him that he quickly wrote her back that he would meet up with her….if not a little late. He was TECHNICALLY grounded, but his mother didn’t think her son would be slip out of the house from a 2 story window. After making super sure his mother was asleep so that she wasn’t able to check in on him he opened the window, changed into his uniform, and jumped out. While he was now under Linarite’s team, he still saw Serandite as the first person who taught him what he needed to know, and he considered her, even though he didn’t tell her, as a friend.

It didn’t take long to arrive at the park. It wasn’t ideal, but if a senshi showed up, he could show her now that he could take starseeds. The last time he tried he……made a fool of himself. He wanted to show her all that he could do now!

When he arrived, he noticed the familiar pink, and smiling, headed over. As he approached, an eyebrow rose up from his slightly bruised eye at the sight of Serandite. She….wasn’t dressed the same. In fact, she had a different uniform. When he walked up to her, he didn’t even hide the fact that he was looking her up and down several times. “You have a new uniform?” Apparently it wasn’t sinking in. He continued to look her over, before breaking into a smile. “I like it!” Still short, but it had frills, a giant bow, and was very nice on her, not to mention more modest than the other one. He always felt something was either going to rise up too far or slip down too low with her other uniform. This one was WAY cuter.

Serandite was delighted that Wolframite's text indicated he would be coming-- very few of the other negaverse agents would come at such a vague request. More like.. a "friend" in the negaverse. Since Charonite had arranged for the lieutenant to work briefly under her first, she felt a closer connection to him than the others. Serandite suspected they had more than a few common interests-- with those bows and all. (She wanted to stick more on him.) After all, it wasn't like evil people couldn't have friends. The other ones who came close would be Tisiphone and Valleriite.

Serandite had been hoarding the same concerns over her previous uniform-- especially with the "Tobernite-ripping-kimono" incident that she hadn't recovered from. It was assured that it wouldn't happen again. Now that she actually had something under that uniform, haha. Her chest size had even grown bigger-- even if it was still an extremely flat chest.

"Hey there! I have news to tell you----" She cut off abruptly, skipping towards Wolframite to cover the distance between them. "Your eye. Did something happen?" She said in concern, fumbling for her pockets for a non-existent cold compress. (How would she be carrying one, she never knew. But she kept looking for it.) She sympathized with a bruised eye-- having had both eyes black and blue herself.

She looked incredibly sad when she announced her bad news, looking down, as if she had lost everything in the world. Or it was the end of the world.

"I-I don't got a cold compress."

What news she had brought a look of excitement as Serandite’s face lit up as she came to him. He happened to like news, and he also liked to see his teacher smiling. It had been a while since they last hanged out, and he wondered if he’d be seeing less and less of her now that he was under team Enterprise.

Her moment of excitement was cut short when she saw him, and he consciously touched his face, frowning. “Is it really that bad?” He had put cold on it the moment he got home, tried covering it, but then again, it wasn’t like he didn’t know he failed to hide it well. Come that morning, he tried to slip out of his house in a fake rush and his mother caught him in time to see the swelling. Ignoring the face he tried to hide it with some makeup, a trick his sister taught him when he got in a lot of scuffles as a kid, she had been enraged he was hiding it to begin with. After a long series of questioning and a awkward car ride to school, he found himself grounded on the bases that he was lying to her and wasn’t telling her what was going on. It wasn’t like he could senshi as an excuse, and he’d rather have his mother assume normal fights than supernatural ones. It did claw under his skin that she once again assumed he had been the victim without even hesitating, and he made a show of scowling at her afterwards.

It was nice to be out of the house, just to show her. Maybe he was entering into a rebellious phase.

“Oh, just some senshi got to me. I’m fine.” He blew it off, but the two punches to the face had been hell. The bruise on one side was still showing, but at least the one on the other wasn’t as noticeable anymore, at least not in the dim light of the park. If he thought he looked handsome, it might have been a problem.

Not wanting to see her frown on his account, he craned down to look at her face. “It’s okay. You wouldn’t need a compact anyways. You look fine the way you are.” Cheesy, but he wasn’t about to replace ‘fine’ with ‘beautiful’ as it…was embarrassing. “Now what’s this good news you have?”

"Well, senshi have orders to be on "kill alert." I'd advise you to watch out for them." Serandite soon saw Wolframite's face under hers, deciding nothing could be done with that injury. She ran her cold finger over it, determining it wasn't as serious as it could be.

She put a bright smile on her face, stepping back to twirl around. "Good news-- Yep! I'm a captain now!" She clapped excitedly as she said so, grinning one of the widest smiles she had ever shown.

"This uniform upgrade is only a part of it." Serandite stated mischievously, lifting her ruffly skirt a little to emphasize the uniform design. Same old Serandite-- simply in new clothes, it seemed. But she had matured. Even it was only several steps, it was a subtle change. While she still did retain her youthful cheerfulness, it seemed as if a bit of the immaturity had been stripped and replaced with a small amount of maturity.

She looked at Wolframite, not with determined but ignorant eyes but with a clear conviction in her eyes-- a clear one that seemed more prepared to face what was in front of her. It wasn't yet completely the eyes of someone who fully accepted it however-- but those were the details that one noticed over time. For now, she was simply gushing over her bunny's new ornament and her teleportation abilities.

He touch made him flinch, but not because it hurt. The bruises were fine now, the swelling gone and the tenderness faint unless you really pressed on it. It was her cold fingers and her touch that made him jolt. A person who had been comforted more with words than hugs and gentle pats on the back, he wasn’t comfortable with touching. While he knew Serandite, they weren’t really close either. He liked to think they were friends, but as far as the Negaverse went, they didn’t really know one another. Really, aside from business, she was a stranger still, and he was always wary of strangers.

“Senshi killing? The girl I just ran into probably looked close, but she didn’t seem to have the heart. I’d be surprised if one of them actually managed to kill one of us off. They get high with themselves about how no one deserves to die. I wonder how hard it would be to choke down their own words when they start killing.” He had to smile at the times he had heard senshi saying they were wrong for killing. Well, look who was a hypocrite now. Now how would they argue that they were better?

As her hand dropped away, he reached up to touch his face, not only to warm it up to shake off the feeling of her touch. Dropping his hand back down, he shifted from one foot to the other, watching her and taking in all the details of her uniform. To say that a lot was ‘going on’ would be a understatement, and while he usually didn’t like pink, this wasn’t the type that burned his eyes. It all worked, with the black, golds, and pinks. A little much, but girls could really work a lot of pink if they wanted, and it helped that her hair was a petal pink, too. Really, her love of that color must have somehow translated when she got her uniform, and again this time around.

“Captain?!” His eyes shot up. She got promoted!! “That’s – That’s amazing!” Promotion was what any Lieutenant was dying to get, and he was glad for her. Even while he didn’t know how long she had been in the Negaverse, the fact she was there for him when he started was enough for him to be happy for her, proud for her, that she made it further up the hierarchy! It showed as he smiled wide, even showing, dare he, a few teeth. Big, bright smiles were not him, but this was big news!

He shared in her excitement, letting her show off her uniform (uniform changes with being a captain – that was great!), but glancing away when she lifted some of the ruffles up a bit, not wanting to see too far up her skirt. Now sharing a little pink in his face, he looked back and smiled, letting her gush about teleportation and her rabbit. “Your weapon? Can I see?” He had always thought Serandite’s weapon, while it was embarrassing to fight with, was very adorable.

New weapons, outfits, and rank – so much was changing for her, and for a moment he tried to feel what she was feeling. Proud of obtaining a goal, rising higher, and she seemed changed a bit on the inside too. Proud, and maybe a little older, though he had no idea how old Serandite was.

Serandite felt her glee escalate with Wolframite's obvious happiness for her-- dancing and skipping a little as she showed off her bright uniform. Without answering Wolframite's question verbally, she summoned her rabbit to her hand, revealing to Wolframite the small changes in the bunny.

As a further indication of her upgraded abilities, the bunny leaped onto Wolframite's shoulder, giving the lieutenant a little salute and a bow. She no longer needed to rely on puppetry-- as much. So far, Serandite had gotten a hang of small movements. She vowed to get some training sessions in with her new weapon however-- taking a seat on the wall.

"Captains get their own youma too. Nifty. I'd summon here for you but he's quite the feisty creature. I have a hard time managing him enough as is. Negaverse doesn't exactly provide a leash for our youma if you know what I mean." She kept the information about her youma innocently vague-- indicating that Wolframite would see it at a later point. When she had better control of it, it seemed.

The weapon upgrade was more than just amazing, it was downright adorable. Harboring a secret love of cute, his eyes sparkled in obvious jealously and amazement at seeing the rabbit, and just as he was about to hold it, it leaped up onto his shoulders and on it’s very own, saluted to him. There was no hiding his wonder at seeing the most adorable thing in the world just salute him. Wolframite’s week was made. It even made his month, and he actually, for once in a long time, gave a full smile. This in turn revealed a missing tooth in the back left of his mouth, but it was only barely noticeable before his smile quickly downgraded to a closed one. Still wide, but with no flash of pearly whites.

“That’s. Just. Amazing.” Serandite and Wolframite had both been disappointed when meeting Sailor Pisces’ imaginary bunny had not been real. This was real, and he reached up to touch it, feeling soft velvet white. Oh, he just wanted to squeeze it to death. Not taking his eyes off, he watched at the rabbit moved. “A youma? That sounds really awesome.” Awesome as in useful, but he really didn’t like the youma at all. They bothered him with their reckless devouring of starseeds, but maybe if one was leashed and trained, like a dangerous, oversized dog, then it could be very useful. He just hoped his wasn’t a centipede.

Finally breaking his eyes away, he continued to beam at her. “You must be ecstatic turning into a Captain. I’m completely jealous. I still like I’m a million miles away from there.” He still felt green. “Do you feel like a Captain?”

Wolframite's secret love of cute wasn't so secret with his obvious jealousy and sparkling eyes. But Serandite was glad to find out that she wasn't the only plush lover in the negaverse-- After all, while maturity was usually hand-in-hand with uniformed agents, it didn't mean it was necessary. When Wolframite finally dragged his eyes away, the bunny promptly jumped forward and disappeared back into the negaverse subspace. She sat down on a railing, perched delicately on it, taking a few moments to answer Wolframite's question.

"That's true. You've got a long way to go-- not as far as you may think though." She gave Wolframite a strange smile as she turned towards him to answer his question, hand scratching the back of her neck softly.

"Hm. I suppose I do feel like a captain. The whole upgrade and benefits are awesome-- it's just.. as a captain, you get a lot more responsibilities, you know? A lot more expectations to meet-- and more punishment if you fail." Serandite looked off into the distance, warily, curling a thin strand of hair around a finger, twirling and untwirling it. "Just don't be in a rush to rank up. Enjoy your freedom while it lasts."

“You are too young to be sounding like my mother.” How many adults had told him to treasure the time he had now, as a kid, before life and it’s responsibilities came to cut your childhood short? Too many that it was now a common phrase between adults, and like any teenager, he wanted the responsibility. Why would he be working in the Negaverse if it wasn’t to rank up, to take on more duties that would in turn mean more power. Of course there would be risks, bigger risks and larger ramifications if he failed, but with bigger goals came bigger dues to pay. As a Lieutenant, his childhood was being balanced between responsibilities that most kids in his class didn’t have. Chores and part-time jobs didn’t come close to being a Negaverser, and while he did miss the additional sleep, the hours he had at night where he didn’t have anything to worry about, and sometimes wished he was ignorant to starseeds and the real truth of what was going on, he reminded himself that knowing and being involved was better. He might have had more freedom before, but he’d then have plenty of time to do what? Nothing. Kid stuff. Stuff that didn’t matter in the long run and changed very little. Right now, he was working towards something. Sacrifices had to be made for that, his childhood and freedom included.

“I might not have as much free time – We might not, but that’s the price you pay to get more power and become something greater. You can’t say you regret not letting yourself linger around as a Lieutenant when you look the part of a Captain so well.” She did. It wasn’t just the uniform. Serandite just seemed to radiate a different presence now.

He followed her distant gave, looking around as he thought. “I want to rank up. I don’t want to dally around. I want to become more powerful, more valuable, as quickly as a I can. The longer I take, the longer I’m not as useful.” He wanted to be an asset, a powerful resource that the Negaverse could rely on and call upon when needed. He'd give up his entire childhood just for that.

"That's true. I am too young to sound like a mom." Serandite threw her head back, chuckling and giggling, staring up at the night sky. "I look the part of the captain well? That's one of the nicest compliments by far! Right now, the other captains are wondering how the hell I even became captain. You should have seen the look on the other captain's faces. It was priceless." Serandite's face shadowed with a smug smirk, hand on chin in a proudly arrogant gesture. She could still remember their faces at the captain meeting.

"I see where you're coming from. But the longer you take, the more you pick up on the way. It's not necessarily a bad thing to take awhile." She hopped off the railing she had been sitting on, brushing off the small particles of dust and dirt on her new kimono.

"It's time I get going. I like my sleep." With that, she henshined down, planning to walk back. Teleporation was tricky and exhausted her-- she didn't want to try it too many times and leave herself in poor shape. She pulled the band holding her side ponytail off, letting long wavy pink hair flow down to the side. "I'll see you around Wolframite?"

He waved a hand, dismissing what the other captains might have said. “Don’t listen to them. You got here on your own merit, and if Charonite and the Queen think you’re good enough, that’s all that matters.” It was true. They were the best opinion on what made a Negaverser, and who was deemed skilled enough to be promoted. If the other captains didn’t see that, they were essentially going against the judgment of their superiors.

Still, he had to hope that no one questioned him if and when he became a captain. If they all felt he didn’t deserve to be there, he didn’t know how he’d feel. What he wanted was for everyone to know he deserved his position, that he was essential in some shape or form, and that they didn’t think his position wasn’t warranted. He’d do anything to prove that to everyone.

As Serandite scooted off to get ready to go home, he nodded. It was getting late. “It was nice seeing you again, and like I said, Congrats. I hope all those responsibilities don’t weight you down.” He looked around and also transformed back to his civilian form. A gray hoodie with jeans as it was cold outside. “Be safe on your walk back. Night!” He waved her goodbye and started to head home.

Captain….just saying it made him hopeful.
