Suzuki wasn’t used to be alone. Ever since she had met Masao, she had followed in his shadow, never leaving his side. For her, being alone was a dark emptiness; it made her remember terrible things. Now the family had grown ever bigger, and even though some had left to travel separately, there was always so many Kuniku around that Suzuki was always so happy, happy, happy! Except for right now as Suzuki realised she was very, very alone.

Bells jingling Suzuki pounced on top of a fallen log, her ears back and a little frown on her face. This was what happened when you decided to follow a butterfly and didn’t pay attention to where you were going. She couldn’t have gone that far had she? Suzuki tilted her head to the side and listened for sounds of her family. Nothing.

Maybe they had all been eaten? Suzuki squeaked in dismay.

Mikoto, on the other hand, felt the strong desire to be away from his family for a time. Especially his mother, who always seemed to have something to say. That wasn't to say he didn't love them - he cared for each of them in some way. But a kuniku has got to take a break from it all sometimes.

He had just finished a delicious meal of domburi with beef at one of his favorite restaurants, which put him in a slightly more sociable mood. Since his entire family seemed to permanently haunt the city of Maizoukin, he decided it was time for him to take his first trip outside of the city.

Mikoto had been wandering around for quite some time now, and had decided a long while ago that he was lost. He realized now that it was a bad idea to travel so far away from home without any idea of where he was going, especially while not paying attention to the landmarks that could have brought him back to Maizoukin. Unfortunately, there did not appear to be any humans around, else he might be able to get a free ride back to the city.

He wasn't worried, really, about getting home. He was sure to run into a human eventually and convince them that it would be terrible luck not to do as he wished. But finding a human could take a long time; it was getting dark, so they were all heading home, and wouldn't leave the city until morning.

It seemed that finding a local kuniku would be the next best thing, since he didn't care to sleep out-of-doors tonight while waiting for the humans. He snuffled about with his nose to the ground and began to follow the scent of what he sincerely hoped was a kuniku.

Suzuki was beginning to imagine all sorts of terrifying things. She couldn’t even bring herself to choose a direction to walk in. In the end she simply sat down dejectedly in the middle of the little clearing she was in and waited. And waited. And waited some more. As the sky began to darken, the female began to despair. Surely Masao would have come for her by now. Oh no, he’d been eaten. Her life was over. The demons would be coming for her soon.

A sudden movement in the bushes behind her caused her to let out a startled scream and she was off, hurtling away down a little path as fast as she could and thus running straight into Mikoto. In a mad jingling of bells she tumbled over the male and ended up in a sprawled on the ground, eyes clamped shut.

The demons had cornered her and in a second they would eat her up.

A loud scream stopped the kuniku in his tracks. As egotistical as he was, he knew he couldn't possibly take on a demon, especially after being tired from traveling all afternoon. And why else would someone be screaming at this time of day?

Without warning, Mikoto found himself tackled to the ground. Letting out a groan, he shifted his weight around and pushed himself up into a sitting position. He glanced around and caught sight of a white kuniku laying on the ground.

Mikoto frowned and took a moment to look the girl over. She didn't look terribly dirty - at least, not any dirtier than himself, which was unpreventable when wandering outside. She also otherwise looked fairly respectable; her colourations and markings reminded him of his father's, and she wore pretty little bells. Uncouth kuniku couldn't possibly look that respectable... or that pretty.

While she was still apparently distracted, Mikoto tried to smooth down his fur and pick things out of it. Then he lightly cleared his throat, and bent down to gently nudge the girl's nose. "Are you alright?" he asked her.

A calm voice cut through Suzuki’s panic and she stilled. The gentle nudge of her nose caused her to look up; revealing summer blue eyes that blinked up at the male in confusion. They were momentarily still clouded with her earlier fear but then the other Kuniku’s presence really kicked in. It was like the sun suddenly appearing through the clouds. The female bounced to her feet in one smooth motion, tail curling over his back and the bells giving a soft jingle.

“Oops, I did it again.” Suzuki looked somewhat sheepish as she shook her head to clear it after her little tumble. “Suzu is sorry.” She grinned at him brightly as she bounced forward to nuzzle his cheek, licking like a happy puppy. Now that somebody was here with her, it was if she had never even been afraid. “Will you help my find Masao-sama? I think I came this way... ah, no... this way.” As she talked she moved around Mikoto is circles, ears twitching back and forth; her steps constantly bouncy.

“Whaa, look!” She suddenly stopped; bending her nose to a little beetle crossing the path. “Look, look! It’s so, so cute!”

Mikoto was pleased that the female seemed to recover from whatever had frightened her before. However, her current antics were... a bit confusing, to say the least. When she started nuzzling and licking his face, he smirked - he wasn't one to complain when a pretty girl decided to get all cuddly with him.

"So, then, you are okay? Well, that's good. I hear someone scream and, uh, came to see if I could help. ...Yeah. It seems that won't be necessary, but perhaps I should stay with you awhile just to make sure you get home safely?" He tried to flash a suave grin at the female, but she became distracted by some disgusting insect.

"Suzu, eh? Is that your name? It's cute, like you," he added, hoping to get her attention back to him. He didn't like being ignored or generally not being the center of attention. Mikoto frowned slightly at the mention of one 'Masao-sama' but when she began talking about the beetle, he decided it best not to mention it yet. If this Masao guy was some sort of love interest of hers, it would be in Mikoto's best interest if she forgot about him for a while.

"Do you live close by? I'm not from this area, so I'm a little lost."

The female followed the beetle until it disappeared into the underbrush, then she craned her head around at Mikoto, ears pricking forward. “Suzuki.” She said with a grin. “But you can call me Suzu.” She moved around to face him, trotting over to press her nose against his. “What’s your name?”

Suzuki’s demeanour was one of a young, energetic and rather dippy female; one could be mistaken for thinking of her female that may have just stepped out of puphood. In truth she was almost as old as the wise Masao himself, though her mind certainly hadn’t caught up with her age.

“Wait! You think I’m cute!” Suzuki waggled her tail happily. “Thankyou, thankyou. Suzu thinks you’re very handsome.” It took some time for his last question to get through and she shook her head. “No, we’re travelling. Aaaall the way from Hokkaido. Masao-sama, Saza, Sanyu and all the puppies!”

"Mikoto," he replied with a smile, amused by her carefree nature. "Thank you." This female was quite unlike the uptight kuniku that lived in Maizoukin, and she was certainly an interesting change of pace to talk to.

"We? So, who are Masao-sama, Saza, and Sanyu? Friends of yours?" He tilted his head to one side and pondered for a moment, trying to recall any maps he had previously studied. "Wait... you traveled from Hokkaido to here? How long did it take you? And why are you traveling so far?" He blinked at her in surprise; physically, Suzuki didn't stripe him as the kind of kuniku to willingly endure harsh weather and long treks.

“Miko-kun!” Suzuki waggled her tail ever more ferociously; filling the world with the loud jingling of her bells. She bounced on the spot for a bit before finally calming down and flopping over onto her side on the ground.

She stretched out her front legs and placed her head on them, gazing up at Mikoto warmly. “Yup, they are Suzu’s friends.” She giggled. “It took um... from spring to autumn to get here. But we had to stop for a bit for the eggs to hatch.” Her ears flickered froward when he asked why and she answered promptly. “Because Masao-sama wants to see the world.” It was very simply really. She wouldn’t dream of leaving his side; where he went, so did she.

“We’re going to Kyushu now. You can come too if you want.”
