User ImageIron Hoof's pelt glistened with his own sweat. His breaths were beginning to be heavy and hot. Walking slowly, he moved towards the stream nearby to take a drink. He thanked himself for having picked this spot to train. Dunking his head in the water, horns poking out from the surface, the large buck gulped down the cool refreshment. Then he lifted his head and shook out his mane, which now settled itself flat against his neck and head.

Moving back to his spot, the buck pawed at the ground and snorted. Suddenly, he charged at full speed to the thick tree that stood in front of him. He collided with it, producing a large, cracking snap. Shaking the impact off, he looked at the tree, which bore a sizable crack in it now. He smirked, it was much larger than last time, and moved back to his previous spot to try again.

A cool wind blew as he walked back, refreshing himself as it was amplified by the water and sweat that clung to his skin. His breathing softened as he found new energy and he faced his "opponent", ready to fight.

User Image Breakaway had been making her rounds through the area she called her home-- her territory. She had a sizable portion for herself which was made up most of the mangrove and cypress forests in the area, but which also branched out into the grasslands, which she tended to observe less since most kimeti didn't bother in the open flatlands anyway.

Just as she was coming up to one of the dryer areas, a loud, crunching-snap caught her attention. Her head swiveled quickly to the sound of the source, firey eyes glowing menacingly in the dim twilight of the swamp as she stepped lightly forward. The wind shifted, enabling her to catch the heavy scent of a male buck very near to her.

She wondered if he missed her signs, or simply ignored them. Another crash jolts the otherwise still-air just as she crested the small hill, and she looked down to see the large-horned kimeti slightly below and in front of her. For a moment, she felt almost-impressed at his shear strength, but then wondered just how intelligent he must be to have trespassed against her.

Rounding down along the hill, silent as the breeze itself, Breakaway sprinted, leaping in front of the buck with a savage snarl and a stamp of hoof just as he was backing away from the nearly-broken tree, catching him off guard, no doubt.

Ears flattened against her horn-less skull, Breakaway pressed nearer still, her voice a low, tenor husk,

"Who are you and why are you in my land?"

Iron Hoof did not expect anyone to come bounding in on his training. He almost thought it was Hidden Terror, as she tended to follow him even when he tells her specifically to stay home with the sac. She was so frightened these days..and it distracted the buck as he thought about how she would fare protecting the sac in her condition..Then the newcomer's voice snapped his attention back into place.

"Your land? This is my land!" he asked incredulously! The nerve! This was his training spot that he found just days ago...Then he looked around. Well it was rather unfamiliar..had he miscalculated the expanse of his terrain and accidentally fallen onto someone else's territory? How embarrassing..

"Hmm...Perhaps this isn't my territory after all...My name is Iron Hoof, m'lady. My apologies for tresspassing and..." he faltered, looking at the mess he had made while training, "...defacing it." he finished, turning to her. "And who do I have the honor of speaking to?

User Image Breakaway eyes the strange, unfamiliar buck, her firey eyes narrowed threateningly as she takes another step toward him-- warning. It doesn't seem to phase her in the least that she is so much smaller than the other kimeti.

A low growl begins to threaten in her throat at the buck's denial, but she pauses at his apology. Still, her stance remains stiff, ears flattened to her head even as she raises her neck a little to better regard him.

"...Hnm. Breakaway. At least the Swamp seems to have taught you some manners, if not the sharpest of eyes." Her comment is smooth, tinged with a hint of sarcasm as she straightens herself gracefully, casting a look at the fallen tree. "You might as well finish what you were doing. No use in wasting it."

Sorry about the tense switch but I'm used to writing in present tense xD I'll keep it present from now on :3

Iron Hoof nodded at the doe, unsure of her comment on his sharpness. He almost retorted that his horns and neck spikes were plenty sharp, but decided not to push her any further with smart-a** remarks. He then noticed her appearance. The doe, Breakaway had no horns atop her head, giving her a smooth look. Her back spikes, which Iron Hoof lacked, were spikier than the general population. She also bore markings that looked like flames stretching across her back. He thought her beautiful, if only for a fleeting moment. No doubt any comment on the matter would be returned with spitfire.

Instead he shook it off and moved to the fallen tree. No use headbutting it now...but the doe was still there and how would he look if he just sat there after receiving permission to train? Improvising, the buck positioned himself perpendicular to the log and lowered his head. Then he shoved his massive horns underneath it and began to lift it. A little. The log moved a few inches off the ground, but that was about it before Iron Hoof rolled it off his horns with a thump. Huffing, he turned to the doe, slightly embarrassed.

"It's..uhh..a little heavier than I thought.." he said softly, but turned back to it to give it another try. That's what training is all about.

User Image Still not completely at ease around the other kimeti-- but then she rarely was around others of her kind-- Breakaway moves a few paces off before standing watch. She eyes Iron Hoof while the other buck nudges at the heavy log, still so full of sap and water, and rolls her eyes smirking faintly as she snorts in amusement.

"Well, no wonder. You haven't given it any time to dry out," she retorts evenly, speaking a** if it was common sense and wasn't he just brillian?

Still... she watches the muscle strain across his neck and flanks as he pushes at the log a second time, and the smirk this time is of a different nature of predatory-- if only just a bit.

"I suppose I could help..." One of her ears twitches as she stares at him, and makes no move to do so, at least not yet.

Iron Hoof coughed in embarrassment. "Well, that may be true..I suppose it would help.." he said, nodding, although he didn't really understand why it would help. He looked at the doe and pawed at the floor. He couldn't just keep knocking down trees, and pummeling rocks with his hoofs could only go so far without a hoof-ache as he learned the day before. Even now his hooves still had the faintest ache. And he could swear a tiny rock chip was stuck in one of his hooves, and he pawed at the floor again.

"Um. Well, I suppose you could help if you so wish.." he said, not sure of how much she could help. She was indeed smaller than him, and most does that he had met were simply helpless. He did know that that wasn't always the case, and perhaps there was more to this doe than meets the eye. He decided to give her the opportunity to prove her strength to him. Nothing could fascinate him more than the secretly strong.

Breakaway sighs and rolls her eyes before stepping forward. She pauses, rolling her shoulders and then casts him a sideways glance. She notes the bit of discomfort, and embarrassment, in his expression and allows a small spark of amusement to show in the barest twitch of her lips.

"Well, where did you plan on rolling this thing to anyway? Don't just stand there and gawk." She bends down, securing herself, and moves to shove at the large trunk.

Though small, the strength within her is evident by the wiry muscle sliding under her dark pelt, and with another sharp shove (with the buck's help) they manage to get it rolling. When it stops, or gets stuck on a rock, she simply shoves harder until it's going again. By the time they cover some distance however, her hide is beginning to slicken with sweat.

Iron Hoof stood baffled by the fact that the doe rolled her eyes at him. Was she mocking him? Hmpf! He snorted at her, even though he practically set himself up for ridicule. Roll the log? Well he had planned to simply lift it again and again until it was an easy task. Though he supposed rolling it was just as good a workout, if not an easier one. It would probably take longer to get stronger though, and the buck trotted to her side and began to push the log.

They hit a few snags here and there but eventually they covered a great distance, and the buck was thirsty once more from the loss of so much water through sweat. He licked his lips, but would not complain. Not in that doe's presence anyways, no doubt she would find something snarky to say. He could feel his muscles burning after rolling the log, perhaps it was a good workout after all.

After another pause, Breakaway straightens, cracking her neck. "So, how did you manage to wander into my lands anyway?" She knew she'd set markings up, and she traveled the borders enough that it should have been fairly obvious. She isn't sure if she's still complaining or not, though. The buck was strong, and rather unusual with his large horns, spikes, and short tail-- but she doe not find it to be an unpleasant sort of unusual.

Even if he's not the brightest Firefly in the Swamp. In fact, she found his slight dim-wit to be more amusing than anything, though also somewhat annoying.

Stepping around the log, and around him-- her tail just barely brushing against his flank-- she moves into the Swamp with an ease of step that speaks of her familiarity with the land, and gives him one backwards glance as if to say 'well, are you coming?'.

There's a clean brook not far from where they stopped, and Breakaway lowers her head to take a sip of the cool water.

"I suppose I just wasn't paying very much attention. I had thought I was still in my own lands, or at least, in land unclaimed. I've been worrying too much lately about..well I wouldn't want to burden you with my own troubles.." he said, stopping himself from rambling like a dam who'd lost her foal. But in truth, he was concerned with Hidden Terror's growing fear of her other personality. It was only the one that scared her, the rest were...mostly harmless...And why would he leave her with the sac in her condition? Fang had been tame this morning, so he thought it to not be a threat. He made a mental note to hurry home soon, just in case, yet that thought was stalled by a brush of a tail on his flank. It sent a shiver down his spine that he had not felt since his brush with Ancient Song, which essentially wasn't too long ago. Nevertheless, he missed that feeling, and followed the doe, wherever she was going.

Breakaway straightens after taking one last sip and eyes Iron Hood with one raised brow. "Hm," she hums softly, and it's unclear if she has any comments to make or not. She says nothing for a few minutes, at least until the buck is finished drinking.

"I have been expanding my territory recently. I suppose it could have been an easy mistake.." but that teasing, sarcastic smirk hasn't left her eyes or her lips--- she obviously doesn't really think so.

"Perhaps your wandering mind made you less observant?" A simple prompt. She is slightly curious as she circles the other kimeti, and teases him deliberately this time. Her tail curling along his flanks and sliding up around and under his chin as she chuckles softly-- it makes it difficult to tell just what she means by 'wandering mind'.

Iron Hoof stopped beside the doe and lowered his head to drink. He felt locks of his mane slide down, already beginning to dry. The cool water moistened his mouth and lips and cooled him from the inside as the large gulps slid effortlessly down his throat. Smiling, he let out a sigh and listened to what the doe at to say.

As she spoke, the buck remained silent, yet still could not help but feel a mocking tone in her voice and movements. All the same, as she circled him, he felt that separate feeling again. His flanks twitched and he cleared his throat. "Well...that may be so..There could be a number of reasons for this misunderstanding.." he said, referring to the territorial dispute. His tail flicked and he pawed at the ground again, focusing his attention on the small annoying stone in his hoof. He mentally told himself, You've already got a baby sac at home AND Hidden Terror to take care of, not to mention death-walking. You don't need any more.. Though the last phrase seemed to slip right past him. His tribe was a harem. There was always room for more. Of course, he would need some more bucks if anything...

Breakaway laughs softly, though at what in particular is hard to tell. It's honestly amused though, and despite any mocking that may lie behind it, is surprisingly sweet. Her eyes glitter with it, mischievous and unpredictable.

She pauses at his side, their ribs nearly touching, but not quite. She has to tilt her head up slightly, this close to him, in order to meet his eyes-- but she doesn't mind. Standing so near, she can feel the heat of his body, and their scents mingle in the heavy, humid air. Her study seems to go on for a very long time before she speaks again,

"Hm... your hoof seems to be bothering you. I noticed you messing with it earlier, too." Again, she pauses, shifting slightly to better face him, "Would you like me to look at it for you?"

Iron Hoof hears her laugh, and this time, lets a smile break upon his face. It is genuine as he picks up on the sugar of her laugh. As she stands beside him, their eyes meet and it feels like an eternity before, nervously, he pulls his eyes away. Unsure of what to do next, he tightens his muscles while standing and looks at them. They have gotten bigger since the beginning of the week..

Her voice brings him back to focus as she questions him about his hoof predicament. "Well..yes I believe their is a small stone in it. Not large enough to make me lame, but noticeable enough to annoy me. And I can't quite bend my leg or neck enough to reach it...I-If you wouldn't mind..I would appreciate it if you could remove it.." he said, embarrassed to ask this doe to help him with something so trivial. Not that she was incapable for the task, but she was a lovely doe, and picking at one's hoof didn't seem to suit her.

He kneeled to the floor and leaned onto his flank. He then extended his leg to give her plenty of space to inspect it.
