Senshi Story All children grow up....Someday...Right?
They always said the reason there were no lost girls was due to the fact that they were far to smart to fall out of their prams. And as true as that is there is another truth, girls by nature know the importance of growing up. As fun as it is to be a carefree child you must allow time to pass as it should.
And she did...
Wendy, though a part of her would always miss Neverland, returned to the world where aging was a part of life, she became a lady, a wife, a mother...a widow. Telling the stories of her adventures to her daughter so she too would dream of faeries.
It wasn't until one night, while the baby Jane slept soundly in her crib did he return...Peter Pan. Wendy's first love. Though you'd never hear her admit it. It was an unusually warm night allowing her to keep the nursery window open to bring in the breeze that she sat in the family room reading a book. The house was beautify silent so the creaking she heard above was odd. Closing her book she slowly rose suspicious of the noise and made her way up the stairs, past her mothers bedroom and toward the nursery. With a lantern in hand Wendy entered the babies room, and in that moment her heart skipped a beat.
Standing beside little Jane's crib his head tilted in a curious fashion was the lead character in all of her stories. Peter Pan. The boy looked up jumping back quickly his eyes wide in the darkness. "Peter..." Wendy breathed taking more steps into the room. In his surprise it finally dawned on him. "WENDY!" he said loudly shocked with what he was seeing. Looking quickly to the crib she placed her finger to her lips and said "Shhhhh" it would not be good to wake poor Jane.
Nodding Peter frowned leaving his place against the wall and coming towards her. "Wendy..." he said "Peter..." she replied. They both simple looked at each other for a moment, Wendy's eyes showing her sorrow at leaving him behind and growing up, but after a moment Peter began to smile.
"We all knew you'd be a mom" he said gesturing to the crib. Wendy smiled.
"It's so good to see you Peter" she couldn't help but put down the lantern and pull him into a hug.
"Aw, Wen. I told you I'd come back" he said squirming a little until her finally returned her embrace, but leaned out of it quickly, his cheeks tinted pink. "Now you can come back to Neverland with me! We need you there's been some trouble lately...Some of the lost boys have gone missing..."
Wendy stepped back frowning and shaking her head. "Peter I can't fly anymore. I've grown up remember?" she paused "I won't be able to return to Neverland" though she had known this for so long saying it allowed broke her heart. Strangely enough Peter was still grinning that tricky grin.
And that was when he pulled a thimble out of his pocket. It was on a necklace...And it was the very same thimble Wendy had given to Peter when they had met...The kiss. Presenting it to her Wendy blushed a little but looked confused.
"What is that for?" she asked it was her turn to blush, Peters grin only widened.
"This is how you're going to come back to Neverland with me Wen, see we all need you to come back...Even Tink misses you...sorta..." he looked at the thimble and placed it in her hand. "It's enchanted...there's magic words you have to say and it'll give you some powers.." he tried to explain though he looked confused himself.
Wendy was entranced "What kind of powers?" she wasn't sure how this little thimble would bring her back to Neverland.
"I dunno." he shrugged. "How bout you try it and find out??"
"Even if this does work Peter...How could I possibly leave Jane?" her eyes glanced toward the crib with her sleeping daughter nestled inside.
"Ah don't worry about it, your mother can take care of her until you get back. With this thumble you'll be able to come back whenever you like." Wendy turned back to the thimble, her heart tugged in two directions. A part of her wondered how Peter had know her mother had come to live with them after her father had passed. How many times had her old friend come to visit?
Slowly Wendy said "If I do this...I cannot stay away to long, I cannot and will not abandon Jane, she needs her mother"
Peter nodded "I'll bring you back myself! Okay??" finally Wendy agreed.
"What is the phrase I have to say?" Wendy asked still hesitant.
He looked a little sheepish. "Neverland Star Power Make-up" he told her as if he had spent many hours remembering the correct words. "But to make it work the first time...I have to give you a kiss...like you gave me..." he was becoming redder by the word. "But like a real one...It transfers the magic.." He looked away embarrassed.
Wendy blushed but silently agreed. Peter took the thimble out of Wendy's hand and placed the necklace over her head resting it on her collar. Her hands instinctively clasped around the tiny piece of metal. Peter took a deep breath. "They told me how to do it.." he said puckering leaning forward and placing an innocent peck on Wendy's lips pulling back quickly.
Wendy closed her eyes as she felt a strange magic consume her, it was similar to that of Tinkerbell's fairy dust, but more powerful, her lips recited the words Peter had told her like it was something she'd done every day of her life. It came so naturally. And it felt so strange, A warmth encircled her, she could feel the magic touch her skin.
And when she finally opened her eyes everything seemed so much bigger. And Peter, his eyes were wider then they had been when Wendy entered the room. "What is it Peter?" she said concerned, afraid she'd done something wrong.
"Wen! You're...you're...you!" he pointed at her. She looked down at her hands...her tiny gloved hands and gasped turning quickly to the dresser mirror. Her eyes caught something she hadn't seen in ages aside from the old family photographs. Wendy stood there they same as she had the day she'd met Peter, the twelve year old girl with the bright blue eyes.
She looked at Peter who seemed like he was on cloud nine. "I'm...me.." she said. "How can this be possible?"
"It's the thimble! It's the magic" he nodded. "Though it gave you a weird dress." he laughed.
Looking down at her clothing she saw the white bow, lovely shoes and...shortened version of her old nightgown. "Oh my.." she said in shock.
"And you have a thing on your head..haha" Peter pointed. Wendy touched her forehead, there was a jewel.
"This is so very strange Peter" she commented. What had she become? Why did she feel so..powerful?
"This is so very great! Your you again! You can come back with me!" he bounced around the room happily. "Lets go! Lets hurry!" he took her hand and pulled her toward the window.
"Wait." Wendy said, pulling away and going to the dresser drawer, she pulled out an ink pen, and piece of paper and wrote.
'I will return, keep the window open. Love Wendy'
Her mother would know, she had often thought there would be a time when she would have leave again. And when she found the parchment the next morning and saw the little pink kiss on Jane's forehead she knew that her daughter would return, just like she had before.
