 Oh, the sun, just barely rising over the top of the visible horizon, or at least the top of the swamp's horizon. She was laying sprawled out on the earth, uncaring of what she looked like to an outsider's eyes. It was unusual for Jade Storm to be so carefree but she had just woken; the song of the songbirds was beautiful.
She slowly collected herself and, nearly purring, stretched in the cool morning light. It was an absolutely gorgeous morning and Jade Storm loved mornings. The swamp was a foggy, pinkish orange and the birds were singing and dancing or whatever it is they were actually doing- Jade Storm didn't really care! It was such a wonderful morning!
Today she would wander further than ever, a bright and early start meant she had a longer day- and with a small jump in her step she settled on a direction and began walking, mostly hoping to find some sort of sustenance on the way to wherever it was she was going.

 In a place in Jade Storm's direction there lay a very, very unhappy buck. He was so unhappy this morning he was about to eat his alarm clock that would not shut up. Why did they have to sing this early? Huh? Why? It was just too early for birds to be singing their merry way like there was no. one. else. in. the. swamp. Such selfish little creatures with wings. Oh how he wished he could reach them.
He'd send Petalhunter up into the trees to to hopefully catch one but instead he'd only rouse them further. They were flying around his head chirping now and Mallowstar was not quite so mallow. He seemed to roar at them, chomping his mouth into the air.
"Quiet you," he'd snap at one.
"And you!" He tried to eat the other.
He may as well have fallen and hit his head with the birds flying around it.
"It's too early! The air is too humid! The ground is too cold! ... and you're too inconsiderate!"
It had not crossed his mind that he had probably woken up a few creatures himself. He shouldn't care. He was older.

Something had gotten Jade Storm's attention. A faint hollering? Something about being inconsiderate?
The irony was not lost on her and she continued walking in the direction the yells had come from. With every step the sound of agitated song birds seemed to grow louder and louder- just what was bothering them, she wondered?
It wasn't long before she saw for herself, though. A rather cranky buck was... Chasing songbirds and trying to eat them. That was a peculiar sight- at least to Jade Storm. She wasn't really sure what was normal as she tried not to spend too much time near other Kimeti.
She didn't want to bother the angry buck but she did want to get to the other side of him. So she simply tried to sneak past him, careful of her footing so as not to step on any sticks or creatures and alert him to her presence.
It would be her luck, though, that a songbird would find her presence to be threatening and chirp loudly in her general direction. It startled her enough that she somehow managed to trip over her own hooves and stumble into the ground, a loud "Oof!" accompanying her fall.

He was in the midst of chasing the birds, still yelling at them about being inconsiderate when he heard a loud "oof" behind him. He turned his head, about to yell again, something about trespassing this early in the morning and having no respect for other kimeti when his jaw dropped, mouth stuck open. It wasn't that she was some amazing beauty that stole his breath away. It was that Petalhunter was tugging at the lass' ears, very floppy and large, trying to help her up. He was supposed to be helping him catch a bird so he could teach them a lesson! Not her!
"You!" He grumbled. "Stop playing with my mongoose and get out of here. You're upsetting the birds."

A small noise of pain escaped as a Mongoose began pulling on her ears. She wondered just what it was doing and was about to nudge it away when a rather stern voice hollered in her direction.
She immediately froze and very slowly turned her head towards the source of the voice. She was about to comply to leaving but then he had to go and say something about her bothering the birds? Jade Storm wasn't very fond of being yelled at, she was even less fond of being told she was doing something bad when she wasn't.
Ears twitching as a result of the mongoose's attempt at help ( and still on the ground where she fell ) she raised her nose towards the male.
"I do believe it is you upsetting the birds." her voice was exceptionally calm, considering. It wasn't like her to speak to other Kimeti- other than that time she ran into her father, at least- but something about the one in front of her bothered her enough that she wanted to share a piece of her mind.
"Perhaps if you weren't so grumpy and grouchy- and not to mention didn't attack them- they wouldn't make so much noise."

Petalhunter gave up trying to help the doe and instead pawed it's way up her ears and then sat on her head like he was the king of the swamp. It wasn't until Mallowstar made another, loud assertion that the mongoose jumped off the doe's head and ran over, perching himself on the back of Mallowstar, playfully batting at the birds.
What a rude doe. Butting into his home and proclaiming he was treating his alarm clocks wrongly? Good grief!
"I do believe it is you they knocked to the ground. It is obvious that the problem they have here is you." He stated firmly. "I'll have you know they make so much noise every. damn. morning. They're either too late or too early. They can't do their damn job right! They don't know when to shut up either! Chirp chirp chirp! I don't want to play with them!"
He stared at the doe for a moment.
"You, however, you. You have barged into a buck's home, alone, at such an early hour! If you want some kind of service, I'm going to have to decline. You're covered in mud. Far too dirty for any buck's taste I'd imagine."

Jade Storm had to exude serious effort to not react to the absolutely adorable behaviour of the mongoose. The fact of the matter was: she was irritated and the little mongoose was making it difficult for her to stay irritated. Fortunately the grouchy male called it back over and she no longer had to deal with its cute... At least until it began to flail at the birds.
She stared at the mongoose until that annoyingly harsh voice broke through her sudden calm. She was about to tell the buck that he should find a new home if its other residents bothered him so much but he had to just continue on talking.
And talk he did! She had no difficulty finding her anger once again. "I'm afraid I'm not sure I understand you correctly." Jade Storm met the buck's eyes, her voice rather sharp despite her position. "Are you implying that there's things you could offer me that I would even want from a grumpy old man like you?

The buck would normally command the mongoose to stop fraternizing with the enemy but his attention was more focused on the doe invading his space and the birds invading his air. Oh his poor air. It was already so humid!
So it was a strange sight. Such a grumpy kimeti with such a cute mongoose as a companion.
He met the doe's bright red eyes and once again he spoke at her in that firm, superior manner because children should learn some manners. "Your ears are big enough, you should not have any problem understanding me." He stopped for a minute and he took a breath, sharp and older eyes glaring at the doe. He would make it very clear so her overly large ears could make sense of him. "I'm saying you should clean yourself better if you wish to seduce strangers. No self respecting buck would give you a second look."

She couldn't help it. One moment she was angry and the next she was laughing so hard her body toppled over once again. She knew it was rude and was sure she shouldn't be laughing quite so loudly, but she was so amused by this cranky old man.
Finally, after only a short while, Jade Storm was able to compose herself and rolled onto her feet. She shot a look towards the grump and then, without a word, turned her back to him and began walking the way she had come, towards a stream she had passed on her way.
It was far enough away that she would be out of seeing distance, but probably not hearing distance. Upon arriving, she unceremoniously jumped into the small body of water and began grooming herself in the mostly clear waters.
She would certainly show him how pretty she could be.

He'd never know what the doe was laughing about, and it only reminded him of the birds. However, it was short and then she left and then that was that. You don't know how much it pleased the buck to have just been proven right. If he could high five and was not a total grump, he'd have done that. Petalhunter of course, posed in an odd manner on Mallowstar's head had this very "heeeho!" expression. Mallowstar shook his head though, it was far too early to be chasing the rabbit to the watering hole. Not to mention the ground was too cold, the air was too humid... and it was too early! The birds had woken him a whole eight minutes too soon.
He dozed back to sleep on the warmest spot of ground he could find. It was not warm enough though and as Mallowstar fell asleep listening to the doe in the distance insist she'd "show him" his face turned into a mix of a strange grumpy frown and a smirk.
