Deep in the holds of the ship named Polonius Jackson IV, there is a tattered book. The leather bindings on it are soaked and salted by the sea itself. Not much is left on it, some pages are torn out. Long forgotten, the diary sits underneath other items, all thrown in for storage. Almost as if standing guard, a small blue squid plushie sits atop the book itself. Though soaked and dirty, it seems to have held up over the years.

Description: While most captains have taken a liking to their hats or coats, the Captain has given both up. Wearing simple shirts and tattered pants, he keeps on a tight boot and a firm gloves. A peg leg is probably the most notable trait, however.
Personality: There is nothing the Captain ever does that isn't done in some huge fashion. Expression is quite large about him, whether it may be the retelling of an old tale or the most sorrowful apology one can see. The Captain's behavior is one of extremes.

Why adopt?: The Captain always had the neat of a first mate. He decided to adopt a child because it was hard to find an adult with the same spark for adventure he had. While not very well educated on the upbringing of a child, he had trained a vast amount of crew before.

Hello, Diary, my name is Undine.
Diary isn't a good name. Jim is better, I'll call you Jim. OK, Jim, today was such a good day.
I met a few good mates to be my crew. I need more people, but the captain says I'll be sailing soon on my own. How exciting! I also made a friend. His name is Inky. He'll watch over you and the ship while I'm gone. The captain has things to do.
I hope everything goes well with my new school. Classes haven't started yet.

Guess what, Jim? I can move water!
I tried it today in the school. I moved it in the air! Also, I can change my arms, too. They can turn into water, but they are still my arms!
The Captain said he was proud of me! I really want to go with him on his next sail. He says I'm not old enough. I think I'm going to sneak inside with the apples. No one checks the apples before loading them. He'll never know.
Tomorrow, I can move to the school. I don't want to, I want to stay on the boat with the Captain, but he says I gotta if I want to go to school. I told him that I don't wanna, but he said I needed to if I wanted to be better with water. So I'm going to go, but when I'm strong enough, I want to leave and live out on the open sea with the Captain forever.

Jim! I just got back from the sea with the captain! Oh, I should've remembered to take you with me! We saw dolphins and sharks. This one time, this whale came up. It was singing nicely, but then it sneezed water on us. How mean. mad
Anyway, I was supposed to be the navigator, but I got us lost. I didn't mean to. We finally got back to shore a few days ago and it took some directions to get us back here. Next time, I'll mark the map better. Crayons don't work.
Today, I'm going to this ball that the school is having. It's supposed to be for halloween, but I don't know what that is. The captain says its something about candy and costumes. Sometimes people play tricks on others. I hope that doesn't happen to me. I'll write more about it later.

Flashback:
Not According to Plan
The pirate ship Polonius Jackson IV was sailing steadily across the sea. A small Undine stood in the crow's nest as she spotted the ship that her captain was set on finding. "Francois Beau right ahead, Captain!"
From under his coat, which blanketed him, the sea captain Tentaclees Squidicus rose to his feet. Rather known as Captain Squid, this wavy haired man of fortune took his periscope and zoomed his sights in on the target. They didn't expect a thing and probably thought of the ship as a merchant vessel. No alarm was taken as they became closer. "Great work, 'Diney! The rest is smooth sailin'."
Two hours later, the Francois Beau was standing without a single mast. All the crew members had been tied and kept alive as was Captain Squid's honor. Undine was told to keep herself inside Squid's cabin as he didn't want to endanger her. She couldn't miss a moment of it and sneaked her way to watch from a safe place on the deck.
"That'll be the last time you ever take anything buried under the name of Captain Squid! What is mine stays mine," stated the sailor as he walked across a bridging board to his own ship. In his arms was a chest he had kept hidden for safe keeping. Under their trickery, the French crew had obtained the map to the treasure he had kept on him.
Perhaps by bad rope working skills on that day or perhaps from the sheer strength of a man, one of the captives became free, running after Squid as he placed the chest back on the ship. Under his laughter were footsteps he couldn't hear that drew a sword. A hesitant magenta girl finally cried out from a barrel of apples. "Look out!"
Instantly, Captain Squid turned around with his blade readily drawn to be knocked away into the sea. His opponent advanced on him, causing him to move back. He was caught in a corner with only one thing to do. The attacker raised his sword and ran at Squid. A heartbeat came to his ears. It sounded like it came from the ocean.
A pistol in Squid's sleeve was drawn and fired. The attacked fell face first on the deck. His blood began to gather upon the wood. A terrified little girl saw the view of a dead man. A captain saw her face, turned away as tears came from his eyes. A crew hung their head in mourn for their leader. A reputation of a Squid was shattered. Almost as if the heavens were crying as well, the clouds broke out into rain, the rain water running the blood off of the ship, but the body was delivered back to its ship and the shame would never leave Squid. Ever.

Flashback from the Seas:
Loss of Limb
Out off in the seas, the Polonius Jackson IV was set off in what looked to be the middle of an ocean. Blue on all sides, it would be the perfect place for Undine to train her powers. Swimming off in the sea, Undine began to move the water around her to create a small spiral around herself.
"That's very good, 'Diney, you're really gettin' the hang of it," the Captain looked at his first mate with a big smile. "Wonder how much you can do when your older."
"It's so easy now!" an excitied shout came from the girl as she lifted herself from the water in a jump and returned with a splash. She swam at a suprisingly speedy pace around the rowboat that the captain was sitting in. The movement was so erratic, almost like the movement of many fish. Something was attracted to it.
From the depths, a shady figure began to rise. The two above only focused on what tricks she did on the surface of the water. The figure moved slowly, easy prey. It wasn't until the captain dropped his pocket watch in the boat did he realize the figure as he glanced at it when he reached to pick it up. Almost as if it had known it was seen, it moved much more faster.
"'Dine!" came a quick shout as the captain grabbed the girl and pulled her into the boat. The figure knew the movement was too well too pass up, its mouth opened to reveal an arsenal of many teeth. "Shark!" cried the Captain. However, with only the two of them in one rowboat, it wouldn't do any good.
The fanged fish never halted, rather rammed the side of the boat, almost forcing the captain to lose grip of the his first mate. The ship was a short ways away, but it would take some moves to get to the rope ladder. Again, another THUD as it rammed the side of the boat again. It wasn't curious the others. It looked like it knew what it was doing and really wanted to attack the two.
The girl was placed down as her rescuer began to row back. Suddenly, another bump. Much larger. It looked to overturn the boat. It was more clear now. It wanted Undine. "You have to concentrate," the ordered her captain. "Try to trap him up long enough so we can head to the ship." A nod came from the frightened child, her eyes focused on the water around the shark. It froze at first, then was pushed away. The captain then began to row faster and faster, placing the girl on his shoulders as they reached the ship.
He took his step on the step ladder when the rowboat was push away underneath him. Hanging on by a leg and his two hands, his first thought was to make sure the girl wrapped around his shoulders would be the one to leave alive. "Undine, grab the rope and climb! Now!!"
As he said this, another shark came from the water below and wrapped his mouth around the captain. With a quick heave, the captain cleared himself from its bite. Or so he thought he could.
A hot sting came as the shark fell back down. Blood poured from the captain's leg. The girl was halfway up when she stopped to hear the sound of the shark hitting the water. All along, her captain had been biting the rope to hold himself from screaming. He finally released for a moment. "Don't look back, 'Diney, keep going!" A few steps further with his good leg, he was out of reach. "Head the my quarters!" White noise and blurred vision, a few more steps. "Hurry!" She was now up and running quickly. "Don't come out!" His last order as he pulled himself up to the deck.
A massive row amount of teeth was left behind in his leg. The damage was great. He looked down to see eight more pointed fins from the water's surface. Probably more circling the other side. A current now pushed them away as a panicking girl wrapped herself in her captains overcoat inside his quarters, crying so much.
It was too much more to bear, everything went light and the strongest person the girl knew, her hero and father fell to the ship's deck. It wouldn't be until another set of seconds that the girl will peak out from the quarters, run to her captain and push him to wake up.
"Please, I don't know what to do! Don't be dead, Captain, I need orders," her eyes welled up. "I need you! Captain, please!" She stopped pushing and held on to him closely. "Daddy... please don't die."
A moan and grunt as Tentaclees Squidicus regained conciousness and feeling in his leg. He woke up to see his daughter's eyes filled with tears. He knew he couldn't hide his hideous leg from her and she saw it at that moment. It was silent for a moment. This is my fault, Undine thought.
"New heading," finally from the Captain. "Set sail off to the nearest island, northwest. It'll take some time to get there." Sounding professional and cold was just not helping the situation. "I guess this is a good time to teach you how to handle a wound now, eh 'Diney?" attempted Squid. More silence.
An hour later, the both were done patching up what they could before they could see a doctor. Both were upset. Undine thought the incident was all her fault and it was her who couldn't protect her captain. Squid realized now that Undine did have to grow up sometime. More than that, she needed someone to take care of her and watch over her to make sure she'd be okay. Someone like a brother.
Night came as they finally docked at the nearest island. Staring off to the sea before he hobbled off the deck on a crutch, the captain looked off into the distance, hoping to see a port to a particular place that could make everything in his heart feel better.
