Difficulties when trying to write Length:

Note: This is still being written. But, I wanted to make sure it got saved, and wouldn't be erased. It's near completion. And suggestions or comments would be welcomed.

Responding to Short Posts.

Sometimes one of your partners in the RP just doesn't give you enough to work with. It's hard to hold to writing your length, and forwarding the story together, if your partners don't pull their weight.

Every post is a small part of a story you and others are writing, and experiencing together. And sometimes, things don't go right, and someone puts up a post that has almost no information for you to build off of.

But that's okay. Because here we will take a look at a few ways to still get the length of post you are proud of. There's going to be a couple different things to go over, however, they are best used together. All of these are examples of ways to lengthen your post, even in a situation that you are given enough to respond to.

We are going to use the example of "Sarah looked up and said 'yes.'" This will be the post that I am going to respond to, using the various techniques that will help you with your own posts (even if you are not responding to a short post).

The first technique we are going to explore is to explore what your character is thinking in that instance. Delving into your characters mind.

Sarah's Post:
Sarah looked up and said "yes."

Rain's Post:
Yes. She had actually said yes. Rain couldn't figure out how a guy like him could attract a girl like Sarah. He didn't want to forget this moment, when she finally became his. After being friends for years, Rain was finally able to see everything come together. No matter what happened, he silently promised to stay next to her.

The second technique we are going to take a look at is description of both characters. Normally, you're told to describe your character to gain some length. However, you're not limited to that, and can branch out to describe the setting, and other characters.

This is why it's a good reason to put a reasonable amount of description in your character sheet. That way other people can use your character sheet to improve, expand and develop their own posts in a comprehensive matter. However, paying close attention to the development of other characters in posts is also important. Every outfit your partners RP character is going to wear isn't going to be in the outline skeleton, and you need to pay attention to the story you are writing together.

Remember, we are going to work on descriptions of both characters in the scene. While this ability can be used on any number characters, this is built on your characters interaction with the other characters in a scene. So, remember, do not over do it. Your character will not be able to interact with everyone at the same time.

Sarah's Post:
Sarah looked up and said "yes."

Rain's Post:
Rain slid his hands through Sarah's dark hair, it smelled of the hot summer air. "I love you," he whispered into her ear. He ran a finger along her chin, tilting her face up to look into her eyes. His own grey eyes burned with his desire for her. Closing his eyes, Rain turned his own face up to the night sky, feeling the atmosphere change with the coming clouds. He shrugged out of his long black coat, holding in a pale hand out to her. "Here," he offered to her, "Sarah."

Reminder: You can't take direct control over another person’s character. This can become difficult in situations that involve direct contact between characters, yelling, love making, a fight, a race; you want to make sure that you don't take too much control away from your partners and their characters.
