It was rare for Aleu to leave the pack lands, especially without telling her mother where she was going. But today was one of those exceptions, today she just felt the need to run and explore and be free. Her sister and brother were still acting strangely and so this time away would be refreshing for her. Humming a cheerful tune as she padded along a game trail Aleu was taking in all the sights, smells and most importantly the sounds of everything around her.

Anything and everything could be turned into a song if you worked hard enough at it and that was one of the goals of this trip. She would find something to inspire her and create a song out of it. Perhaps even perform it in front of whole pack once she got back. Oh wouldn't they be thrilled to hear of her adventures out here. She could sing of the beauty of nature once more. That though put a smile on her maw and a small spring in her step.

"Hmm-em... now, what shall I do with you?" Kifo Uso mumbled, her greying maw poised over a newly killed rat. She hadn't been very hungry, and indeed, a rat would seem a strange meal for a wolf. But something in her head had bid her to kill the creature, to feel its small bones crack and snap under the pads of her treacherous feet. And now that the annoying little creature was dead, she had a sense of accomplishment--one less rodent to wake her up from napping with its incessant squeaks. How she hated them...

She kicked the thing away behind a tree. "Let the spirits deal with your stench..." she growled, and turned away towards the deeper forest. "Which way to go, which way to go... why would I know, which way to go..." she half-chanted, half-sang to herself. Her voice was low and gravely, as if it had seen too many hard years. And it was true--Kifo was old. VERY old. Some thought that she might be immortal, she was so old. Even she had lost count of her birthdays, not that it mattered. She was content with stirring up rumors, rumors of her being an old haggard witch.

She didn't mind--in fact, she liked the title. It had a nice ring to it.

"Which way to go..." she murmured, and started her way down an abandoned game trail.

The scent of the other wolf reached Aleu's nostrils shortly before she caught sight of her. She did really need to work on not being so distracted by the thought of a new song that she would miss those around her. Something to work on in the future she told herself before turning towards the other. She was still close enough to the YMCA border that she felt confident about meeting this wolf on her own.

"Hello there." She called out to the other, padding cheerfully toward her. Well at least she was until Aleu caught sight of the others markings and her legs faltered slightly. She had never seen a wolf with such strange and almost scary markings before and suddenly she wasn't sure what to do. Surely she couldn't go back on her greeting and run off like a scared little pup. So instead she took a deep breath and continued forward - albeit a bit slowly than before.

The sudden greeting caused Kifo's head to shoot up from where it had been mumbling its idle nonsense. Her black, almost skull-like eyes narrowed as she gazed ahead on the path, taking in the sight of a younger, much livelier wolf just in front of her. The youngster seemed quite chipper as she came towards Kifo--but then, her movements faltered, and the bounce in her childish step ceased. Kifo grinned to herself, for she usually had this effect on other wolves, and thought it quite entertaining. She often wondered how she had come by such luck at birth, to inherit the coat pattern that so perfectly resembled a skeleton--she couldn't really remember her parents, but was sure that they hadn't had the same pattern. It must have been fate, then... and a warning to her family as of what she would one day become.

Kifo halted, still not returning the greeting, at least in words. However, her dark face spread and twisted in a wide, toothy, impish smile, and her black eyes twinkled in their equally black sockets.

"Ah... hello... theeerrrrreeee," she rasped, playfully stringing out the last word. Her ears twitched as she sat back on her haunches, waiting for the younger wolf to catch up to her position.

"Wonderful day for a walk, eh? With the sun so... dim... under these trees... yes. Yes, it is. It is, is it not?" She rambled, not even trying to hold herself back. The youngster ought to know her for what she was--she had no wish to hide it. Besides... she so did love that look of fear on the faces of those she met.

"Yes...I suppose it is a nice day for a walk." Oh gods what had she gotten herself into. This was the exact reason why she stayed close to the dens and sang songs all day. Perhaps after this day she would do just that - for the rest of her life. Swallowing hard she continued forward until she was close enough to hold a conversation with the odd wolf but far enough back that if needed she could hightail it outta here. "And what are you doing on this fine day?" Aleu asked, her voice a bit shaky.

Kifo's head tilted to the side, her ears hanging haphazardly on her head. One eyebrow quirked as she said, "What am I doing?" She let out a loud, sudden laugh, one that ended just as soon as it had begun. It sounded so strange in the peaceful silence of the forest... "Well... right now, I'm trying to see you, with as far away as you're standing! What's the matter? Is my fur too unkempt? My paws a little too dirty? Or... or do I smell?" She laughed again, maniacally, her head lolling back on her thing shoulders. But, again and just as suddenly, she became silent.

"Say... you're quite a young'un. What are you doing out on your own, in a place like this? Where anything could be lurking? Like... well, like me!" It was almost as if she was amused by the thought that she was the monster that parents warned their pups about. Her eyes crinkled in merriment, though they still held that same deranged, darkened sparkle.

"Hmm, you're pretty scrawny. Are you hungry? I can hunt... hunt quite well. Rats... bats... snakes... you name it! Appetizing, they are, yes they are." She licked her lips, emphasizing her love for the unusual.

Aleu really wasn't sure what to make of this wolf. She certainly seemed a little...off. But at the same time as scary as she looked and the odd way she spoke and acted Aleu didn't feel very threatened by the other - though keeping a bit of distance would be a good idea. But trying to be polite Aleu took a few steps closer to the strange wolf.

"I'm old enough to be out here. This is near the border of my packs territory." She said confidently, though inside she just wanted to run home in terror. Head tipped to the side. She ate rats? That was something that Aleu had never considered eating before now. Sure if she was on her own without the pack to help provide meals she may get desperate enough to hunt one down, but it wasn't top on her list of things to eat. "You eat bats?" Her voice was filled with curiosity, the fear it one held was now gone. "How does one catch a bat?"
